Flashing the firmware of a CompactLogix PLC is one of the first steps a programmer needs to perform as he begins to work with the system. Today, we go over the entire process of flashing the firmware of a CompactLogix L24ER-QB1B PLC. The process begins by establishing communication over RSLinx. This requires the programmer to set the IP address on the PLC as well as the programming terminal (laptop) to the same subnet. Once that’s complete, one needs to verify that the PLC in question is compatible with the desired firmware and download it to the machine. By using the ControlFlash software from Rockwell, the user can easily transfer the firmware to the PLC. Do note that no interruptions may occur while the process is being executed as this may cause harm to the processor and render it unusable.

Hi Solid PLC, (1) when do we need to upgrade the firmware to PLC how do we know. (2) Do we need to turn off wifi while flashing in progress for safe side ?

Yes, you will lose the program on the PLC. Always create a backup before flashing.

No, you download the firmware to your machine and while you flash you must be connected to the PLC
