Love those marching band videos I went crazy check out a dozen of em and I keep thinking how much mental physical and God given talent it takes to play at that level. Amazing Happy New Year my friend
This show was so spectacular that the designer of the show was promoted within a week. He had been the interim director while OSU searched for a permanent replacement, but this show convinced OSU to give him the job .
I was in marching band in high school, and unlike many high school marching bands, we were very large (over 100 members), and we outmatched many college bands (not this one, of course). We did half time shows like this nearly every week during football season, as well as several parades...and many of us were members of other bands as well (as a freshman, I was in 9 different bands all at once). Usually we only had a week to prepare a half time show. We didn't move much during songs at these shows. Usually we'd get into a formation and hold there while we played a song, then we'd get into a different formation, and so on. That was difficult enough. I've often wondered if I ever would've been able to handle what these college bands do. We worked HARD, tho. We received the full respect of the football team because A) the main purpose of a school marching band is to support the football team; and B) because they saw how hard we worked. We'd often have daily rehearsals that began right after school, and didn't end until 8pm (also, marching band rehearsals began during the summer...usually about a month prior to the start of the school year). Our director was great...but demanded perfection, and never went easy on us. We were even subjected to inspections by Marines prior to a parade or other special event. We had to stand at attention while a couple Marines closely examined everyone one by one to ensure our uniforms were spotless with no loose threads hanging on them; our shoes were polished to perfection; and even our instruments had to be clean and polished. If they spoke to us, we had to respond with a shout of "yes, sir!" or "no, sir!", or whatever. It surprises me that marching bands aren't really a thing at sporting events in other countries. The role of marching bands; cheerleaders; etc. is considered vital here in the states...at least at the high school and college level. They serve to not only entertain the crowd, but to pump up the team and keep their spirits high.
Happy New Year!! What a wonderful surprise to see an amazing marching band reaction!! My older sister was in marching band for 8 years, high school and college. It takes hours and hours of practice of both the music AND the marching!!!! Thanks you Lyle and Stacy!!!
To play music while doing all those different movements for so many different scenarios is mind blowing. I was in marching band in high school & glad to have made majorette, so I didn't have to learn all that craziness (I played clarinet). LOL I was up in front of that madness instead. This band is amazing & I love how they took down Michigan's flag at the end. I live in Michigan & we have a daughter who lives in Ohio. The schools are big rivals & it cracks me up when they do something to our flag every time, we play them. LOL So fun. Retaliation is sweet. tee hee the last video I watched of them on TH-cam, they had Michael Jackson moon walking. Frigging amazing!
Their salute to Hollywood Halftime Show was absolutely AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! The pirate ship sinking the Xichigan ship was the best part! They are simply Fantastic!!!!!!!
The Livestream you mentioned was the one I requested The Ohio State Marching Band doing TV Land. They are awesome to watch! Glad you have done another Half Time Show by them.
I loved marching band. Not at first, but once we got out of summer camp I loved it. We did formations not quite as elaborate as this. We had around 100 in my marching band years which is quite big for a school with around 800 kids.
My son played trumpet in marching band. Theirs had 160 members and they competed in Bands Of America competitions every year. They even got to go to the Waikiki parade in Hawaii. I LOVED being a band mom chaperoning competitions and football games and camp. I practically went into mourning when he graduated.
