That is absolutely NOT how to groom a bearded collie. A beardie is a natural breed and all that cutting and shaping is not the breed standard. Sorry, but that is so bad.

The so called ‘breed standard’ follows years of irresponsible and misguided selective breeding resulting in dogs with unnaturally long coats which are an aberration, and a torment to the poor dogs concerned. Working bearded collies do not have unnaturally long coats - they wouldn’t be able to perform their duties of sheep and cattle herding if they did. Search online for photographs of bearded collies from the first half of the twentieth century and you will see dogs barely resembling the current fashion for dogs with overgrown heavy coats and facial hair so long that it obscures their vision and irritates their eyes. The breed standard is a human construct, and is cruel to the dogs. Similar cruel selective breeding has led to sloping backed GSDs, which can barely walk, and develop spine and hip difficulties at an early age, and flat nosed bulldog/pug/boxer types which can no longer breathe easily or give birth without veterinary intervention. Bearded collies need and deserve to be able to see clearly without the need for bows and clips and to be able to work long hours in wet conditions without becoming waterlogged or overheated, or tripping over their own coats. The so called ‘breed standard’ pandars to a stupid human whim to prettify the dogs, and reduces them to mere accessories to human vanity, turning them into show bench ninnies.

sorry I had bearded collies and lived in the UK where there are obviously a lot of them. NEVER one cuts the hair like that ! it is meant to look natural and rugged. He looked so good when he walked in the parlour. What a shame !!!

@@isabellebowden296 I'm not the owner, I'm the groomer. The owners of the dog didn't care, he always came to me after 6-8 weeks, with tangled hair and the dog suffered when combing. The owners therefore decided to cut it. There are videos everywhere, where a dog goes with a machine for a short time. I just wanted to show that it can be cut other than 1 cm with a clipper.

@@isabellebowden296 my Beardie had to be groomed every 3 months. I live in the UK. My dogs hair used to mat even after he was brushed. If I didn't have his hair groomed it would be awful for him

In a perfect world you wouldnt want to cut but, to those leaving negative comments,
HAVE YOU HAD A BEARDIE? I inherited one and i love her BUT WTF WAS GOD THINKING!?!? Insane coat, actually thought is this dog part sheep?

Exactly. I'm a groomer, not an owner. The dog was brought to me every 6-8 weeks, he was not combed at home. the hair was always tangled, I was worried, and so was the dog. the owners decided to cut it, and I wanted to show that it can be done in other ways than shaving. But it amazes me how many haters there are, breeds like yorkshire terrier or shih tzu are always cut short and nobody solves it.

@@miroslavavisvaderova8544 I totally agree with you my bearded collie had to be trimmed every 3 months. Even after brushing Alfie hated having his legs touched . My groomer did a wonderful cut called a Teddy bear cut and he looked amazing.negative comments are not nice. You have done a lovely cut on the dog

I loved my beardied collie Alfie he lived to be 15. He had to have his hair groomed every 3 months. His hair used to knot up even after brushing. This dog looks gorgeous well groomed.

Normally an adult beardie should be groomed (thoroughly brushed out) weekly. It takes me about 1.5 hours. Juveniles take longer especially when changing their coat. They are best groomed on a grooming table where you have control of the dog.

But what have you done with this magnificent breed, the bearded collie? The end result is reminiscent of a poodle - you've never groomed one, it's not possible.
