    There are multiple parts to Matt's success. Obviously the Yankum Ropes play a very big part. But choosing the best attachment points and attachment pieces play a significant part too. Then Matt's strategy, not just dumb luck. Tie it all together.

    I am so glad I had been watching Matt use his Yankum rope(s) on his TH-cam channel! I bit the bullet and bought one (over $300 altogether - including shipping), and coincidentally used it 3 days after receipt to extract my bogged down ~25 hp Kubota tractor from mud. Prior to that, I'd tried to use the SUV's 9600# Warn winch, but it wouldn't budge - it just started dragging the SUV toward the tractor! Similarly, trying to tow the tractor out directly with my 5.4 liter 4x4 6700# Expedition in Low range didn't help. It was really stuck! Sure glad I had the Yankum as we got even more rain shortly thereafter! I thought I was going to have to hire a tow truck, which wouldn't have been cheap! I've really learned a lot from watching Matt's approach. Obviously, brute force power isn't always the answer. He's pulled out a lot of big, heavy rigs using his Jeep and the Yankum ropes. Amazing and seemingly a really nice, hard-working guy too!

    Interesting to see how the US and Australian snatch straps differ. Over here the snatch straps (flat straps) are designed to stretch too. They are designed to work in the same manner as the kintetic rope demonstrated in the video, though i think the rope does have a little more stretch in it.

    • @bumpffslam
      @bumpffslam ปีที่แล้ว

      I think there is confusion regarding terminology: probably the 'flat strap' is a standard no stretch rope/webbing, whereas the 'kinetic rope' is what is commonly called a "snatch strap" in Australia and may be a webbing or rope like.

    Revisiting this a couple of years later (maybe I get "triggered" by this content when ever I happen upon it - good to keep the algorithm rolling)
    - There remains a really real question? why was (does) Matt - or even Yankum, confusing -or at least not clarifying - a tow strap with a snatch recovery strap (or indeed possibly even lifting sling). Not all straps are the same (of course you guys know all too well, or you probably shouldn't be in the game you are in). A Snatch strap a dynamic recovery device which is woven - in a weave intended to stretch - from nylon (~25% stretch), a tow strap is usually polyester (low stretch, as low as 2% - the material chosen is by design it is not an accident nor a "cost" concern).
    Both are "derived" from the lifting industry (but are not actually / rated as lifting slings) and are designed for different tasks, and have "tell-tale" threads incorporated to indicate if they have been overloaded and should be retired (a snatch strap shouldn't be used for long form towing, just as a tow strap shouldn't be used for dynamic recoveries).
    A dynamic recovery rope 9yes, not a tow rope), typically is not regarded as having a limited "workinglife" (unlike a dynamic "snatch" strap) and doesn't appear to have any indication as to whether or not it has been overloaded (in practice bogans in the boonies often keep using a rope or strap until it parts company with an end or so - hopefully there are no hard bits getting slung about when this happen - towballs, mid point shackles, pulley blocks, etc.)
    Yes, one can weave a rope (or a strap too actually) with any degree of elasticity (strength also, though naturally there are engineering limits based on material selection, etc) as desired by altering material weave and layering, etc..- one COULD use rubber bungee cord in such a rope if 100% or greater of elongation was desired (yes and of course bungee cords reach their full strength - dictated by the woven outer sheath, which hopefully takes up the strain before the rubber cord exceeds its limits.
    BTW that recovery should have had another tug - once the Banana started digging down, the dynamic rope had no further real effect in the system... - gotta have a laugh still......

    • @YankumRopes

      You can bounce on the end of our rope! This will make flat towing a much better experience since it is designed to stretch. Just don’t run over the rope, same as a flat strap. Where our ropes shine is recovery and extraction. These ropes stretch 30% so if your friend s stuck in the mud this rope makes the recovery from the mud a breeze especially if your wheels are fighting for traction in the very same mud your friend is stuck in.

      Wow this will be a delayed response... For a 4Runner we recommend getting a 7/8" rope. A 1 1/2" rope is for much larger vehicles. @@JohnDoe-lj8bc Have you ever used a flat strap to tow another car? You cannot jerk it, it does not stretch. If you have any slack, even a few inches, when the strap goes tight, it will snap/shock, usually the towing vehicle. It does not feel good, and can/will bend or break things, especially if you are towing out a vehicle that doesnt have really good recovery points. A friend got stuck in the sand bottomed mud in Jersey, and unless you have a much stronger and heavier vehicle to pull him out, which I didnt, our flat strap was useless because his truck weighed 1000 lbs more than my SUV. He was able to free himself by working the problem easier than using my car to pull him out.

    • @tennisontower8003
      @tennisontower8003 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not have an answer for your question, however, in the build process videos Yankum posted, the ropes are made with two layers. The Inner layer is woven, and the outer layer is woven around it. IMO, This should mean that if the rope broke, it would break either the inside or outside first, and the other layer would prevent the broken part from flinging out. If a regular strap breaks, there is nothing to hold it together

      Load means weight or tension. Of course you can use it for a “load” that is what it’s designed for, pulling. Now a running shock load, THAT, is a very different much larger “load”. Most flat straps are polyester (polyester only has a 5% stretch capability) and the flat weave doesn’t allow for stretch like a braided round rope. Even if you compare Nylon for Nylon flat VS round, you will not get the 30% stretch that our ropes are capable of.
      This “recovery” flat strap is designed for static pulling, our round braid is designed to be shock loaded.
      The round braid is much like a “finger trap” as you pull its radius reduces this also contributes to the ropes stretch capability.

    • @JohnDoe-lj8bc

      The strap in this video is nylon and has 20% elasticity. It is designed to stretch and rolls up much smaller than your rope and is cheaper. Now your rope does have. 30% stretch but you really only need at 10% stretch to be effective. Any more misinformation you want to spread?
