Erma and Claude Flossen have been caretakers of The Sanctum for nearly 50 years. In that time they've hosted thousands of guests... guests of all sorts and from all walks of life who have suddenly and curiously found themselves wandering a frigid wasteland of unceasing snow. The elderly hosts have never charged for warmth and shelter, for what good does money do here? The one rule is that The Sanctum's respite is only available to its visitors for a single night. Claude and Erma share a relieved glance as a young and frightened couple shuffle shivering into the lobby. They somehow know these are the ones; the new caretakers have finally arrived. Without saying a word, the Flossens quickly leave The Sanctum's embrace and hold each other close, disappearing into the drifting, gray horizon.

Sheets of snow, racing past him, as an express train flew past the abandoned station, The fur lined gloves were not being co-operative on this day, as the child refused to eat the vegetables, Fingers frozen to the point of numbness, For several moments he envisioned himself as Father Christmas, without the red attire, He slowly looked up at the towering snow-capped mountains, covered in a soft white blanket, as she laid her baby in the crib covered by a plush blanket, Forlorn, walking all alone, not another human in sight, no one to listen to his mis-adventures or constant complaining, he stood at the sink clearing after the meal, resentfully wondering why not a dishwasher?, Amidst, his self-pitying moments, which were becoming very long, his gaze fell upon a brightly lit abode, signposted he thought “The Sanctum,” Feeling saved from the treacherous, biting, ruthless weather, his legs felt as though they were becoming heavy to lift, as she felt her arms buckling under the weight, “GREAT, REALLY ANOTHER TEST’? he screeched and hollowed in frustration, anger and pain, ’NO, I WILL NOT SURRENDER, FOSTER MY INNER STRENGTH, WORK WITH THE LION HEART,’ his booming voice echoed, sending ripples throughout the wilderness, Just as soon as he uttered those words, he felt bright lights surround his shivering, uncertain form, dare he turn around to take a glance? With a quivering heart, he slowly faced “the shimmering lights” looking aghast!!! He let out a shuddering scream, what had he seen?
