- Hi all! Welcome to my breastfeeding journey story. My son was born a preemie so for the few first months of his life he was actually exclusively bottle fed. I wanted to start breastfeeding him but didn't know if it would be possible after bottle feeding for so long, but we did it! We transitioned fully to breastfeeding when he was about 2 months old and I wanted to share our story to encourage anyone in the same boat!

Thank god, u and the little boy are back on track, again.
Kisses!
I started breastfeeding from bottle for my baby after a months, it’s really challenging sometimes she pull my nipples and crying… talk to consultants and it might be a slow flow at the first.. I don’t wanna give up so I keep trying! Your video encourages me so much, thank you!!
I dont want to go to a shield yet bc he is latching but it is not quick enough for him so im going to try the pump on one side. Thank you so much for this
Josefina your bedroom looks so so beautiful and clean and I really love your videos a lot you inspired me a lot and I wish you have a nice day😊💫💝
Hey....without nipple shield my refuse to feed....so its ok to continue with shield
Thank you for this video. I’m sorry for your traumatic birth and recovery
:( I’m so glad you and baby are now safe. I had a pulmonary embolism 2 mo after baby was born and was placed on blood thinners and her g’parents bottle fed while I was in the hospital. That was 4 months ago, she’s almost 6 mo now and I’m wanting to breast feed again since I can switch to a nursing friendly med. this is so encouraging, thank you 🙏🏼
So sorry to hear about your birth experience. And best of luck on your breastfeeding journey!
Thank you for posting this video. My daughter was born late premature four days ago and we haven't had any luck with getting her to latch. We had to switch from syringe feeding to feeding her pumped milk from a bottle and I have been feeling so hopeless about the whole thing. ( I was able to breastfeed my son for 24 months despite early struggles due to a moderate tongue tie.)
So sorry you’re going through that. Stay positive and be kind to yourself ❤️
This gives me so much hope 🥰🥰😍😍😍
My baby is 11days old and she was interested in drinking from bottle and not even trying to suck and keep my breast into the mouth....I'm very disappointed and frustrated that I m unable to provide nutrients and depressed......can u give me some suggestions to make drink only from my breast and totally avoid bottle....so it will be very helpful and i will be with gratitude towards u
You find a solution?
Kya aapka baby breast feeding pe aaya, agar aaya to aapne kya kiya
I would try the nipple shield!
Nipple Sheild not useful, breast pe attached hota hai, jaise hi baby suck karta wo nikal jata
@pritysenal9829 it will be.you need to learn how to use it . Mjhe 7 days lagay thay to learn
I’m wanting to go back to breastfeeding after exclusively pumping for the past month. We breastfed at first and it was just so much so we went to bottle but I’ve learned pumping is harder lol! This is so encouraging! She is 4 months old now and hoping we can get there
It is possible! Best of luck! And remember to be kind to yourself on the process ❤️
Why do you find pumping harder? (I'm not a mom)
@@mika4670 all the parts to your pumps have to be washed, lugging them around if we leave the house and THEN you not only have to pump (some moms pump for like 30 minutes- 8 times a day) but you have to put it in a bottle (sometimes warm it up) and bottle feed the baby. As where when you breastfeed you just pull down your shirt and bam, it’s that easy lol.
@destinee7326 Ah, yeah I get that. Thanks for explaining! I can't wait to have a baby and breastfeed! I've been with my fiancé for 10 years, we're getting married this November! We're both 29 years old. I keep joking to him saying, "On our honeymoon, put a baby in me!" 😂 but like 90% serious 🤭
@@mika4670 it truly is one of the best things ever!! Having a baby is really amazing and you learn so much about yourself through motherhood 🩷 wishing you the best in this next season of your life!!
Did you start pumping in the hospital and dump it? Or did you start trying to produce milk only after your hospital stay?
I pumped and dumped in the hospital!
@EleanorJosefina Wow. I just watched your video about your birth, and HELLP syndrome. That's crazy! And a miracle that you and your beautiful son came out on the other side. Even crazier that during all that, you had the conscious thought and energy to pump! ❤️
How much time it has taken to switch to breast feeding?! Coz I have been trying since 15 days … but it was quite unsuccessful…. Plz let me know
Mine took about a month for him to catch on. I also saw a lactation consultant.
❤ Thank you so much for making this video, because I have been so worried that my son being 2 months old that he wouldn't breastfeed. Once he was born the hospital took him straight to the nicu, and they told me I couldn't latch him. Yet had no legit reason. However due to that I haven't been able to breastfeed, and I've been lucky to breastfeed my 5 other children. So this has really been bothering me. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to now that he's 2 months + and been bottle fed. But your video has given me so much encouragement. I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making it, and I will give an update as soon at I have one. Thanks again and good bless you and your family!
Oh I’m so happy the video helped! Best of luck my friend to you and your little one!
For me low milk supply very less colustrum lead to hungry fussy crying bany which lead to formula and bottle and now i have milk but she doesn't want to latch. It is frustrating. Been trying she is a month old. I am mixing formula and pumping i don't have enough milk to feed her till full all the time.
I know it’s frustrating but remember to be kind to yourself. No one tells you how hard it is to give birth, breastfeed, and be a mom. You’re doing a great job for caring about your child ❤️
Hi Eleanor thankyou so much for making this video. I had a similar birth.. daughter in NICU for 10 days and a preemie.. she is now almost 1.5 months old and has been bottle fed majorly having pumped milk or formula as per availability! I have also been advised by my pediatrician to first offer breast directly and after 15 mins offer bottle...i m constantly finding time to pump as i have a 5 yr old too.. getting disheartened to make her have formula somehow because elder one was exclusively breastfed. Now when i pump and when she is up and i offer breast, it is not full and she is unable to suck. Want to ask u, when u were feeding with the shield, were u offering bottle post shield for the transition? And were u pumping too along with shield and bottle?
I’m glad you found the video helpful! Yes I always tried the breast first before bottle and that helped. I was also told try the breast when they weren’t cranky (aka tired or super hungry).
First I would use the shield and when he started to get really cranky I would just give him a bottle. Eventually he transitioned and took my nipple shield and would have full feedings from me.
As far as pumping/shield/bottle, it was a transition. I was producing so much milk in the beginning that I did have to pump even though I was feeding him with the nipple shield. Eventually I stopped needing to pump when my milk finally regulated.
I tried nipple shield but milk is not coming..how can i increase my milk flow?my baby is 2months old n he is completly in formula milk..pls help
Have you tried hooking up a breast pump to force yourself to have a let down? Then there I’ll be milk right away for the baby. It’s hard to have a letdown when you have the nipple shield on because your breast doesn’t feel the baby’s mouth. Have you seen a lactation consultant?
Hey thanks for this positive video. Just one question though, when you pumped to get a led down of milk, would you pump the same breast where the baby latches and then latch the baby or would you latch baby on one side and pump the other breast ??
I would do the latter. I would pump one side and breastfeed the baby on the other. I wouldn’t pump both.
My baby 8 weeks old, she is bottle feeding, she is not ready to take nipple inside at all when I try to breastfeed her she start crying loudly then I give her bottle.my nipple is flat .
I really went to breastfeed her what can I do please help..🙏
Does she not like the nipple shield? I did the nipple shield right after we left the NICU
Hi Eleanor, I am trying to breastfeed my baby now he is 4.5 month old. I am finding great difficulty in breast feeding. I am finding it very painful and the other thing is he is not keeping his mouth on the nipple itself . Kindly need your advice please
Sorry you’re having trouble. Is there a lactation consultant nearby? A lot of hospitals have them. They are very much worth the $.
I'm on the same page. 4 months and would love to transition from bottle (formula and expressed) to breastfeeding. She only latches on at night or if she's tired during the day. 😢
My baby also has an upper lip tie. What lip stretches did you do?
My son had that. They told me to just massage it in a circle with my finger before we breast fed. I never did any stretches
How much milk were you pumping per breast at 1.5, 3 month mark? 9:26
A ton still at the 1.5 month mark. I could pump 5 ounces out of one breast and 3-4 ounces on the other every 2 hours. At 3 month mark it went down to 3 and 2 ounces for each breast.
Why does it reduce at 3 month mark?
@@cakarishmachawla2818when your milk first comes in it’s the hormones around 3 months or 12-16weeks your milk changes to being based on supply & demand based on how well milk is transferred/making sure breasts are emptied.
My preemie baby is struggling with the nipple shield. I also struggle with it. Do you have any tricks to keep it on? I find when I try to express into into it it falls off or she knocks it off with her hand. It’s very fiddly.
Is it clean? When it’s dirty with milk or when dust gets on it I noticed it would fall off. Also is it the right size? Lastly, it might be super helpful to see a lactation consultant. It was worth it for me to pay $100 to see one.
And it might depend on the age of your preemie. My son was a preemie but was 2 months old when I started to breast feed him. I used the brand Medela but there may be better ones.
@eleanor hi my name is hafsa all the way from Africa.i had my baby this October through cesarean operation and in the nursery they gave him a bottle and he has refused the breast completely even after using the nipple shield.my breast nipple is flat and i hardly have enough milk kindly advice
Very useful
Thank you Mrs.Eleanor for inspiring and giving us hope by this video, and great that you made it all through this problematic delivery and problematic feeding.
I got a little discouraged by the question of how much we can pump; 5 ounces in 2 hours from one breast (which is around 150ml), because I can hardly get half of them by pumping one breast for 45 minutes.
What do you think?
It is different for everyone. But in the hospital they told me to pump every two hours which made me an over producer. So back then I’d pump a ton. Now it’s an ounce or two.
And someone told me you shouldn’t ever pump more than 30 minutes at a time. You can power pump (pump for 20 min, take a 15 minute break, pump again for 20 minutes)
Come on dear, he's hungry!
Thank you, you gave me a hope! My baby is 2.5 months old and he refuses the breast.
