    Bicycle - the tendency of bisexuals to go through fluid periods of attraction where they are more attracted to one gender than another.

    I feel terrible as a lesbian that I didn't even realise there was bi slang, as I've only ever heard bi women using lesbian slang! I've noticed the divide in bi women and men is really noticeable in the ways they are not taken seriously. The majority of guys I'm friends with who identify as 'straight' have confessed to me secretly that they are bi and have had guy on guy experiences, but dont feel confident enough to ever date a guy or be publically bi, and scared people will instantly assume their gay, or that women won't date them thinking their gay, which is super sad to me, and as a result so many bi women are also not taken seriously because people seem to assume a lot of them are either lesbians, or straight girls going through a phase, because more bi girls are out of the closet than guys. I've also met lesbians who won't date bi girls because they've had bad experiences with girls saying their bi to have one gay experience in college, leading them on and then carrying on saying their straight afterwards, when in reality most bi girls are absolute babes and we love you! 💞

      This is so true and so sad!
      I even had a friend tell me that she has nothing against bisexuals, but that she would never date a bi guy, because he could be attracted to anyone... Or another one saying that being gay is fine, but bi isn't because it's just weird to be on both sides. Or someone joking that only girls are bi, and just because they're curious or afraid to come out. It's really frustrating and sad, and feels like a lost battle sometimes. It's like we're not straight enough, and not gay enough...
      It's nice knowing that we are accepted as well ❤️🏳️‍🌈

    Also, I've seen "unicorn" increasingly used to mean bisexuals in general, rather than the specific case mentioned in the video. It has its roots in a rather bitter joke about erasure originally posted on tumblr or twitter:
    Q: what's the difference between bisexuals and unicorns?
    A: I can see unicorns in movies and TV shows.
    There was a followup too: "Also unicorns on TV are called unicorns, not "horses that don't like labels."

    The bi woman's struggle is wading through oceans of thirsty guys and couples asking for three ways when you're more attracted to women, only for lesbian women to doubt you're legitimately bi because your dating history is predominantly male out of convenience rather than preference.
    I don't want to lie and say I'm only into women, but if I say I'm into men as well, men approach in droves because the internet is full of thirsty guys with way lower standards and I don't even get a chance to see any responses from girls, what do?

      Being bi-poly definitely sucks, because people are even MORE afraid that you're just going to up and leave them for someone else. Like omg no, the idea of being polyamorous is that I can form deep and meaningful commitments and relationships with people. If I want just a hookup, I'll let it be known it's a hookup from the get-go.
      And what also sucks is bi-mono people end up hating us bi-poly people, because everyone thinks all bisexuals are bi-poly, but playing the field rather than multiple love. I just wish people saw bisexuality as having so many different flavours, identities, preferences, and lifestyles. No two bi people will be the same.

    • tomcat: a masculine or tomboyish bisexual girl
    • Doe: a “feminine” bisexual girl (aesthetically feminine or takes a traditionally feminine role in relationships)
    • Stag: a “masculine” bisexual girl, (either aesthetically masculine or takes a traditionally masculine role in relationships)
    these terms are comparable to femme and butch, but there’s a bit of controversy over whether femme and butch are lesbian-exclusive terms, so we now have stag and doe instead

  • @l3reak
    @l3reak 6 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    Gatekeeping - not only used for the bi community, but very relevant. It's when the LGBT community sort of polices itself and pushes out people it doesn't feel are "gay enough". This can apply to people like transfolk or the ace spectrum, but it's very common for the bi crowd as well. It's another reason we feel like we have to try extra hard to sort of "prove" our queerness is valid, like one of your friends mentioned when she was referring to her relationships. Which helps explain why erasure hits so hard - it excludes us from what should be own community.

    • @nicolesmrekar2046
      @nicolesmrekar2046 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never seen transfolk pushed out, "bi" people are pushed out because they champion heteronormative bullshit, especially the women. You can't go for a drink with a bi female friend without hearing "So men men men men men men men men". Try mentioning that your server is a cute woman and she'll ignore it, or get uncomfy. Hetero bs always wins with bi women.

    • @NoticeMeSenpaiii
      @NoticeMeSenpaiii 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@nicolesmrekar2046 I'm sorry that you've had that experience, but I politely disagree. I know many bisexual women, myself included, who are more attracted to women than men. Please don't treat bisexuals as if they somehow aren't part of the LGBTQ community. That's what the B is there for 🤷 and the heterosexual community isn't particularly welcoming either, so just know that when you (or any LGBTQ person) decide someone isn't "gay enough" to be a valid part of your community, you're kicking them out to be completely alienated. I think everyone should just be accepting and stop judging others for their romantic and sexual preferences. Every single person's sexuality is just as valid as yours.

    You know what they say, it's always the people who are a little bit bi who say that everyone's a little bit bi. It says more about you than about the world. Some people are intensely and completely monosexual, the first example who comes to mind is Jessica Kellgren-Fozard, but obviously there are lots of people.

    Most people think bisexuals are fully equally attracted to both sexes, but "bi" means two, not equal. Thus, a bisexual person can be attracted more to one sex versus the other. Check out the Kinsey Scale to better understand what I'm getting at.

    “Hetero” means “all but your own” so if you’re heterosexual, you can be attracted to the opposite gender as well as non$binary genders, just not your own gender. So, if you’re heterosexual, you’re bisexual. New bi slang, “hetero”.

    Unicorn in polyamory bisexuality is rare but does exist. They are not praised for their lifestyle since it is so different, so they usually hide it from the public. It's everywhere but hush hush because of all the judgment and disaprovment. There is intimacy, & closeness involved in the love triangle. Lesbians tend to think unicorns don't exist because it is not attractive to them. There are all sorts of love and kinds of people. Some bisexuals want lifelong commitment to a woman and a man in the same relationship.
