I turn my oven on its lowest setting and leave the door open a crack and dry my basil on parchment paper works great

I don't think I ever used dry basil... Does it keep the flavor well?

I dried some basil last year, and it kept some flavor, definitely not like the fresh basil. But I have to try the technique listed above to see if it keeps better flavor that way.

I have tried hang drying basil but i think i prefer the oven method too. They both worked but i dont think it made a huge difference and the oven is faster. I just make sure its dry before i start

Pretty and productive! I love making herb and butter blocks to use in the winter. I make a butter and herb mixture and place in an ice cube tray. Once frozen, I store in a Tupperware in the freezer. I then can add to simple grilled or cooked fish, mussels, chicken, steak, or vegetables. Basil and garlic butter, chive butter for potatoes, thyme, sage and oregano, etc. Keep up the great work!

Hi there! I like to hang dry my basil and when it is completely dry I crush it into small flakes using the food processor and it allows us to have a lot of dry basil for the fall and winter time. I do this with all of our herbs! Thank you for your awesome videos!

I have a dehydrator so I add my basil leaves and dehydrate! After they are done, I crush them up and add them to my basil spice jar. I throw basil in so many dishes including sprinkling some on my steaks!

I did the same thing: basil and marigolds with my tomatoes! I’m gonna by two of those trellises for my climbing roses. Those tomato beds look fantastic! I’m interplanting flowers with everything, but I’m also mixing up vegetables. I’m trying to create more diverse plantings because it’s supposed to confuse the bad bugs. Last year my pest pressure was huge. Hoping this season will be better!

Cilantro is everywhere in my garden😅. Can always depend on it showing up. Z5a, WI. I never started marigolds early an I should in hopes to enjoy them longer.
Tomorrow is saved flower seed plant day. It’s also expand the north garden as I ran out of room. Trying more varieties than ever to find our favorites. Just hope I planted enough of the ones I think will be terrific. I planted about 15” apart last year on each side of cattle panels-peppers one side tomatoes the other-but this year I’m doing 2’ for more air flow because we have cool nights and hot days and it does tend to bring on mildew/fungus.
With so many new items I seem way busier than normal. Journaling takes time also so I know what variety it is. I think I have a vole snacking on winter sow sprouts😣 and under the burlap I noticed something messed with the carrots😏
    Happy planting!

@@SoilandMargaritas my husband always says, everybody wants our stuff.😅. We have to fence everything and going to hardware cloth is not happening. We seen a vole late winter and he was so cute we let him be. Well, he ate well over the winter when I seen a patch of spring bulbs didn’t sprout and there were trails. So we are sending an eviction notice.😄

Everything looks so great and healthy! Your tomatoes are so much bigger than mine. When is your last frost date? I want to plant my warm season stuff out but still worried BUT it has been so warm here, we even spent the day at the beach today. Its been 60's and 70's during the day and 50's at night with an occasional high 40's at night. I might plant some stuff out over the next couple days. Love the tomato trellis!!!! And love all your flower choices :)

My last frost date (average) was April 25th, my seedlings are so ready!

Your weather is same as my nights, but we seem to get awful hot in the day. Today we reached 92*F Z5a, WI. That’s a bit hot for me starting out and I’m not thrilled about it. We will cool down this weekend with rain that we need badly.
I started planting out last week. Mid 40s to 50s is fine. The concern would be if they are flowering as they don’t like below 50 then. My last frost date is later than Roxanna’s about May 10th and we are zoned the same. I apparently have a microclimate that is at least 5*F warmer and cooler than forecast.

@@dustyflats3832 My average last frost is listed at April 30 but it seems most people around here wait until mid May to plant warm season crops but it has been very warm this spring so I think I will plant out at least my peppers and a few flowers. They are hardened off already and want to be in the ground. The 10 day forecast looks great for planting. Thanks for your help:)
