There’s a quote that gets attributed to Mark Twain that I was fondly reminded of here - “It usually takes me more than three weeks to prepare a good impromptu speech.”
Hey Tom, Max here from England. I've been watching your videos for some weeks now and checking out your other projects too. I've been playing guitar for over thirty years and I even have a music degree, but honestly I've learnt more meaningful knowledge about how to be a musician from just one of your videos than the sum total of any formal musical education I've received. Thanks for handing down this education not only for free but in a way that is humble, accessible, entertaining and shored up with the inestimable wealth of your professional and personal experience. Bonus, we get to look at your lovely guitars. In short, please keep doing what you're doing. Thanks again.

Hey uncle Larry, I’m 52 and just got my first guitar a few months ago. The algorithm directed me your way and I’m glad it did. I’ve been catching up on your old videos. I don’t understand any of the music theory you mention but I try to pick up some small thing from each video to try or look up. Hi Tom, Another great video (loved your take on 'Til There Was You - always liked the acoustic solo on The Beatles version, too). Agree with you about the guitar shaped pool - better to go for an Amp shape. 😎
30th Street!!!!!!!!!!! 🤘 Matt built me a red Rust tele with rosewood board during the lockdown. I took the Amtrak to NYC on Veteran's Day '21 to have it tweaked and when I came out of the amp room Fred Armisen was at the counter, he needed them to make a small pedal board for a show in Brooklyn. Nice chat, nice guy!
Fascinating to learn that like myself, you are a non-swimmer. I don't "fear" the water as such, but I cant stand water in my eyes, and hence never acquired the comfort of having my face in the water, and learning the basic breathing skills necessary etc. I paid a lot of money to have an in-ground pool built in the hope that it would be an incentive for me to learn, but it sadly not, although my two young ( at the time) boys got a lot of pleasure from it and both ended up being strong swimmers. I rarely comment on TH-cam videos, but I enjoy yours immensely and after a lifetime of playing guitar seriously, at the age of 73 I'm still learning stuff, thanks to people like you. Happy house/pool hunting from Canada!
Love the real estate vid...Really liked seeing the Nashville landscape in the winter, as my family is all from Tennessee and I lived in Memphis until the late 70's when I moved to L.A. Now that my parents are gone, there's very little reason to go back there...totally understand the Lamby thing...my son had a stuffed polar bear named Po-Lar - I think he still has it hidden somewhere -and he's 35!
Totally agree about Billy G. Met him outside of a bar in Memphis. He took the time to chat with me. He even had his driver whip out a pad with ZZ Top caricatures on it and signed "Billy" across it, without me even asking. What a gentleman, oozes cool
LMAO! Six toes? Maybe the clone is from Key West. Speaking of Paul, Brian Ray has a guitar-shaped pool in his Palm Springs home. RE: Chasing gear. Started playing guitar when I was 13. Didn't have real money until I was almost 40. Kinda hit the lottery and now I own about 30 guitars. I own them because they make me happy. No bigger joy in the world then swapping teles, strats, LPs, 6120, Firebird, 335 or my badass Trussart tele. Nobody gives AF about my guitars but me. I watch HS because I want to be better musician. You're part of my journey and I'm very appreciative, as you know. You're the guitar guru I always wish I had. Thank you, my friend.
Uncle Larry, tone wise, you have the roundest sounding hands of anyone. Just fantastic! I love human behavior, psychology and such. I’m not speaking for anyone but myself. I come here to get straight forward info from one of the great masters in the business. It’s not about the experiences that I’ve had in music/life or whatever, it’s about you being such a high level studio cat and allowing us into a part of your life and your view there of. That’s what makes your channel so appealing, it’s unpolished yet comes off so perfectly. Great job sir! The tone thing, lord knows I’ve chased that and continue, that particular struggle is very real. I think folks (not all but some) aren’t looking at your taste in guitars in the same light. To me, it’s like anything else. A top notch mechanic will have top notch tools but can get the job done with cheaper lower quality tools, it’s the knowledge that they’re using. Same goes for a professional fisherman. They will usually have the best equipment, but that’s the last 5% that the “pros” are getting into. Like the vintage guitar thing, there’s a sound and a feel that goes with that. Most don’t get it. The whole EJ battery debacle, it makes a difference to him. Most of us are not at that level. I love your channel, you’re always so uplifting and supportive of other musicians and people in general, just a nice wholesome “real” channel. I love the fact that you allow us to see a small portion of your day, your life, your family. Just awesome all around. Cheers my friend!
Hey Uncle Larry, LOVE your channel!!!! It would be cool if you could insert some more “corrections” like how so many play Whole lotta love wrong….I really love discovering things I’ve been doing wrong - for me “Ramble On”, and “Alright Now”….simple corrections I came across that made all the difference! Thanks again for all you do and God bless the Reverend Willie G
Listening to you play that standard reminded me of Bob Mcguire playing at the House of swing back in the early 80s and man you deserve any house you want you paid your dues, keep rocking Larry.!
yes, Axis...great record, I also like this short, more pop produced tunes. That was, when Chas Chandler was producing and kept things together. (the tune you're looking for is the Buddy Miles song "Them Changes"
Buddy miles wrote that” them changes “ before band of Gypsy’s “ I love that tune. Thanks for the cool Beatles lesson, that song was from the play the music man I believe. Take care Tommy your the man
I really appreciate you sharing your talent and life with us friend! Love all your videos. Keep them coming! Im in Gallatin man, would love to meet you sometime. Thank you!!!
I could tell what you were going to play from the title 😄 and that tone and playing were amazing as always! How great was George's early tone and playing 🔥🔥
I can so relate to Lambie. Our youngest had Blue Bear. He moved out on his own at 22 and the bear stayed with us. He’s 35 and doing better than the old man. That’s our goal as a parent, right. Blue Bear is doing great as well ☮️
Our family still has BrownBear, also known as Lovard or Lovey. When our son (12) went off to summer camp. He asked us how much he would owe us to babysit his bear. A text thread of Lovey in various locations over the week were proof that the bear was well cared for in his absence.
Is that Lamby Kilmister? 😝 It's so adorable! You have to keep Lambie safe at any cost. As far as the garage goes, I like the kitchen. 😊 By the way, that Hendrix song is Changes, and it's one of my favorite Hendrix tunes (maybe my favorite)..
I watched Marshall's video - wow! After hearing Tom and watching him, totally agree he has a natural talent. With my daughter we kind of forced the piano, but I left the guitar around and she decided on her own to go that route - she's probably around Marshall's age, Kids can learn a lot fast, but when then are self-driven, the sky is the limit. Marshall clearly has "it" - and music in the genes! I will have my daughter watch - she is into YT video learning.
Catching up here, and several things, first I thought your son did a great job and how cool is it that he has an appreciation for tunes like that. Wishing him much success. Secondly on chasing gear. I had taken classes years back at Jeff Newmans Pedal Steel School in Nashville and Paul Franklin was teaching a class I attended on speed picking. One guy commented to Jeff that his steel didn't sound as good as his and Jeff picked up the guys steel and plugged it at the front of the class. He proceeded to play and suddenly you heard the difference of experienced hands and bar technique from very many years of playing the instrument vs the student. It was so obvious and a great lesson to me. Lastly.. Billy Gibbons. If you don't like Billy, shame on you. Try sometime really learning all of those signature Billy Gibbons parts and you will quickly learn how unique and what a great player he is. Sorry for the longwinded comment.
My lamb was black, and handed down from my older brothers. It was left in a motel somewhere between Washington state and Texas in 1962. My parents tracked it down and it was returned to us via the mail. I passed it down to my granddaughter last year. It is the family heirloom, too precious to ever be lost again.
Hey Tom, I would love to hear you on a Steely Dan record and tour! They are my favorite band and you are my favorite guitar player! Thanks for sharing your cool vibe.
Richaaaard!! Good God did he know how to argue!! His heart was limitless and...so were his conspiracy theories! Happy upcoming earthly and heavenly birthday to our sweet friend and soul brother 🙏🏽❤️. I'm sure he will be eating extra spicy Thai food with a fancy musical idol of his in the sky. Sweet, sweet Rick. 😇 👼 Thank you for being a brother to him. He loved your family and you soooo much.
Hey Tom! Speaking of vintage guitars... which I love. When does a guitar "become" vintage? My fave guitar is a 1985, '62 reissue Strat. Going on 40 years old. Cars have a date when they become antiques, antiques have a date at which they become... antiques, do you know what it is for guitars, or instruments in general?
Doctor, after seeing those raggety-ass sleeves on that Gildan...I fully expect the neck to start drooping by the end of the VCB. I'm never buying a Gildan again. Having a harem is definitely a thing but there's always one that you like to touch a little more than others. Others are nice but...easy out there...we're stilling talking guitars here. Always appreciated!
Might have already been mentioned below, but "Til There Was You" is a show tune from The Music Man. I remember watching the Beatles perform it on Ed Sullivan and thinking it was clever for the lads to include something that my parents would like.
Tom,you are so right about gear chasing and the hands or what comes out of a person. When I was fifteen years old I got a little Fender echo unit and really couldn't get it to work for my playing and Steve Morse came over to my parents house and started right away making that thing work for him.He was playing through a Vox Super Beatle at the time preamping it with a Fender Deluxe Reverb. He let me play his Strat and that amp and it scared me to death. But when he played through it,it sounded amazing.
Billy Gibbons is a great guy! Just wrapped up a music video with him and Morris Day in Vegas last month. Can’t wait to see it. Also, digging the glassy uni-vibe effect on “Till There Was You”. So good!
say out the garage its nice in the kitchen LOVE it. Love seeing all of the different stuff that you put out kept it up. The guitar are your tools don't worry about assholes just like you said suck it!!!
"That's the extent of my jazz knowledge, but I can play 'You Shook Me All Night Long'". The throwaway Larry lines like that are some of my favorite parts of these videos.
I was getting all emotional at your wonderful playing then burst out laughing at the Stonehenge minstrel druid music. Let us NEVER take Uncle Larry for granted, or he might swap himself for the REAL Paul McCartney

I miss that kid
Love the house hunting episodes. Thanks Uncle Larry.
Love your posts when you're just BSing. 🤙🏻
lovely rendition of that tune, thanks!
Thank you Tom!!
Till there was you; wow you put me in a zone about 2' apart from anything... seriously. That was an experience Tom. Thankyou.
1:50 YA uncle larry thats what I'm talking about . Shout out from Vancouver CANADA
Thanks Uncle Larry!
Yes everything you say always makes sense and you always know how to say it and all your videos are entertaining even if a guitar is not in it.
One of the best episodes in a while, very genuine! I too almost drowned twice as a kid. No swimming for me either
Thank you. Needed.
The camera today is like how my vision was before getting cataracts removed.
Love the vids man! I learn a lot.
Billy Gibbons is a great guy! Just wrapped up a music video with him and Morris Day in Vegas last month. Can’t wait to see it.
Also, digging the glassy uni-vibe effect on “Till There Was You”. So good!
Morris Day and Billy Gibbons...Rev.Billy soloing on Jungle Love would rule!!!
@@brianmiller6828 That would be a great collab live onstage with that song!
Oh Wee Oh Wee Oh!!!@@DebbiePearlMusic
one of my favorite early Beatles tunes (are any of them not my favorite is the question).
Yes More real estate; I’m a Zillow nerd! Till there was you; beautiful rendition.

put out kept it up. The guitar are your tools don't worry about assholes just like you said suck it!!!
Killer tone, as always, Uncle Larry. Reminiscent of John McLaughlin’s tone on the song, “My Foolish Heart.”
The name of that song you were playing from Band of gypsys is “changes”.
Can’t wait for TTW 2!
Cheers from Quebec!
Please more houses!
Smell tech does exist already - truly. It hooks up to pc and emits combos of smells
so many people luv you ❤
Oh ma Gawd, you actually made me kind of like CHORUS. This is no small thing Uncle Larry. I don't even know who I am anymore.
Tom, that opening lick was sick, man! 🤯🤯😎
Break down that cool run at the beginning of this video....or exercise thingy, it was/is the shitnickle!!
"Sweet fragranced meadows of dawn... and dew"
Love it - always makes me think of Dusty Springfield - "I Close My Eyes"
So awesome Tom!❤
Uncle Larry could make a $3 guitar sound like a 30k guitar everyday all day!!!!
another welcomed vid thanks bro!
"That's the extent of my jazz knowledge, but I can play 'You Shook Me All Night Long'". The throwaway Larry lines like that are some of my favorite parts of these videos.
Hey Big TommyGun! Wanted to see if you can talk about different pick thicknesses and what advantages certain plectrums present. Thanks man
"I never leave my spontaneity to chance." That's highly quotable, good one!
"I'm not going back to the garage guys. You're just gonna to have to suffer with me sitting in this nice warm kitchen"
I was getting all emotional at your wonderful playing then burst out laughing at the Stonehenge minstrel druid music. Let us NEVER take Uncle Larry for granted, or he might swap himself for the REAL Paul McCartney
I love You man!
