      I just did candles recycling from materials what I had left...As I was couple days on flu. It was so relaxing, when I had all the time in the day to do them. Since it's been maybe couple years from last time I did. And I was surprised how I started to feel like the stove coming "alive" on a different way. I felt like it didn't want I store any pots and pans on it, if it's not on the use. I know most people gonna do eyerolls on this but I just thought to share anyway! :)

    "Rugs cure depression" and the nod afterwards 😂 I must not have enough rugs lol.
    Interiors are SO important. I’ve got a chronic illness so I’m pretty much home all the time. I’ve been making little changes and updates over the past year in my furniture, but I’ve focused lots on lighting and buying flowers every week. Tulips are my favorite flowers, so I pick those whenever I can find them! Oh, and I’ve finally hung up art on my walls. That’s fun too. 😊

    These are all great ideas! Another thing I like to do that can quickly change the mood of your home is to spend a few minutes every day cleaning something. It doesn’t have to be a full deep clean but just something that will make you feel like you’ve accomplished something. Sometimes I’ll set a timer for a half hour and just tidy, clean or organize. It always makes my space feel better. And it’s free!

This is totally my routine on a good day. Will try to be consistent this week and see if I'm a bit happier!

    I don't disagree with any of your points but I would like to add one more, declutter. At least twice a year I go through cupboards and drawers and clear out anything I haven't used or no longer like. Stuff is important but space is equally important. Clearing out the clutter always makes me feel lighter. I've currently got a little collection gathering in the hall. Once I've completed my declutter I'll take everything to a charity shop, I think that's what you call good will?

    100% agree, great content Paige! I work with flowers and will hear people say that they don’t buy flowers because they die. This AHA moment came when having flowers in my home , I will take a second when I pass them and touch the petals or just look at the color. They allow space to be in the “now”. My home is the opposite of sad! This is the first time in 67 years that I am in love with my home. I like my night stands, but I will be upgrading them soon. And I need a duvet for my bed, then my home will be complete and beautiful. Perfect for my own personal style. I still love listening to decorating you-tube chanels. My blinds are almost never closed. I need light! I live alone and don't ever want a roommate again! I have faux flowers and must be careful with real flowers, because I have cats. I feel like I have had such neurosis over this for too long - and I cannot tell you how refreshing to hear I am not alone. 😅❤ …Also, is it just me, or do people get ‘stuck’ creatively / physically / emotionally when trying to decorate?! Can we please talk more about this? I feel like I have a clear sense of what I like, but I feel like I have been coping with an existential crisis trying to bring harmony to each room of our c.1790 home. My housemates kindly stopped using the ceiling light and we've used the lamps for three years. It's such a dark lil space, so we have the lamps on 24/7. It's so cosy and makes our kitchen such a special lil late night hub of conversations over herbal tea and chocolate with each other and friends. Magical✨

    Growing up I remember my single mom always getting flowers from the market or grocery store for herself. She would say that you don’t have to wait to have someone give them to you and it just gave her joy to have them around the house. I’ve followed the same mantra and it does cheer up the room no matter how big or small the flower or plant is.

  • @northwoodfalls1403
    @northwoodfalls1403 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    We moved constantly when I was growing up and my mom is very very into interiors so our house was constantly changing. It really does give you that high and the experimenting with layouts and such can help you find a flow that allows the good energy to really flow in your space. Fresh air!! Yes!! Maybe because my mom is European .. it doesn’t seem to be a thing a lot of north American’s do daily (if ever .. I swear all my neighbours are hermetically sealed into their homes) but even on the coldest days (and I’m in Canada so I’m talking serious cold) I open a window for at least 10 min every day to just get the funk out of the house. No amount of scented candles or air fresheners can come close to crisp fresh air. The one thing I really struggle with is rugs. I low key hate them. I love them when they’re well done in other people’s spaces, but I kinda hate them in my own house. I dunno why …. I totally agree they finish a space off and add that warmth and what not, but I can’t commit. I tried a few times and I just grew so tired of them. I feel like they’re so expensive and I cannot decide what style I would want to live with long term … also currently I have a cat that for some baffling reason will pee on anything that is remotely soft on the floor. My curtains cannot touch the floor or she will pee on them. It’s my excuse for not having any ….. its the one home decor area that I have zero confidence in. It’s overwhelming.

  • @33Jenesis

    I like to observe people, including their home environment and cars. I know middle aged people who still use cobbled together furnitures like college kids, cheap kitchen things, tattered linens. They didn’t see the sadness nor cared. A few of my coworkers’ cars are filled with trash and things. They aren’t homeless, just don’t care about all the fast food wrappers and soda cups in the backseat. Now I live in a retirement park, many of my elderly neighbors have interior and furnitures from 1970s. They don’t see anything sad about it. They live yet they don’t see anything they live with. It’s personality I guess. I could never not care about my furniture, dishes, linen, and textile. I’ve been like this for as long as I could remember. I used to forbade my mom to clean my room because I didn’t want her to touch my things that I arranged just so.

    I totally agree with what you mentioned about being an introvert and needing your own space and the importance of separating rooms. I am also an introvert and I have always been so against open concept spaces.
    You are super right about the importance of environment. Two years ago, I decided to makeover my bedroom which was left unchanged since I was 12 years old. I remember feeling that sensation that I just didn't want to be there because it was a room designed by 12 year old me and of course I had outgrown it. My mood drastically changed when I got rid of the purple walls (yes, grape purple). It felt like like a grown up room and in line with my transition into adulthood. Now I love hanging out in my room to the point that my family worries that I spend too much time in there lol.

    I've always felt that my home is the only thing I can really control, it's mine, it's where I EXIST, so it should feel good, be my refuge from the world when need be.
    I recently came up with the idea of seasonal decor. I don't mean holiday decor! And just changing out a few kinds of things: some art, pillows, decorative objects (mostly antique glass). Each season has a theme and color scheme. I'm still gathering the items I want, but I already do this in my bedroom, and it's so nice to have a fresh look to get in the mood for the season!

      Try drawing attention to details. Would it work to get a rug you really liked and just place it over the carpet? Could you draw attention away from ugliness that you don’t like with lighting, wall, art, etc. I think it’s all about contrast and if you can create focal points, it could really help a lot. Play the color theme. That’s already going on so it looks purposeful. It sounds like you could use natural colors and warm tones. Good luck!

Sometimes with larger dreams, like now I ordered new roman blinds, because my windowtreatment was old and very sad. I like silence, always music can make me feel anxious. But often I do love soft playing music too. All in good time. And very important, I love that my livingroom is separate form my small kitchen, I placed a little wall. So it can really be cozy in my sittingroom, without seeing the dirty dishes in the kitchen. My place is small, 473 ft2, so every small corner counts.

    I so agree with the main point in this video. I’ve always been a homebody and even when I was in college dorms, I had to love every piece of decor to make me feel at home or happy when I looked at it. Most difficult time in my life was moving into my SO’s small NYC place prior to Covid that had no natural light. I even detested the walk to the subway so I ended up cabbing everywhere. When we finally were able to move to a bigger, light filled place and start more fresh with new furniture that reflects us both, it was an instant boost!!!

    Books and photographs make a place feel like home; a framed family photo, or a blown-up landscape from a favorite trip make you happy every time you look at them.
    You didn’t talk about smell. One of my favorite parts of coming home is walking into my apartment and being greeted by the scent of lemongrass. I used reed defusers ( which I find tacky, so they are hidden behind other things) and my house always smells like very posh and serene spa in Bali.

    Glad you brought up architectural elements at 1:30. I just talked about it with my roommate the other day! We think that it does really matter how much character a space has. Our rental apartment is very blank and has a weird layout. Higher ceilings, real wood floors and some ceiling ornaments would be an absolute dream. Plus, I feel like these kinda details give a 'direction' of how to furnish a place. Somehow furnishing my place like a Parisian apartment or New York loft while it's just a box shaped space makes me feel like a fraud!

    I’m always changing things around, opening blinds and windows even in the 🇨🇦 winter. I’m paring way back on decorative items and would love tips on how to keep it interesting but minimal and include some colour, not just neutral as most minimal or warm minimal searches show.

    Tip For Paige. To prevent tulip droop. Put in water when you get home, leaving the cellophane on. After 2 hours, remove the plastic and put them back in the vase with water. Tulips will be and stay perky.

    This one really hit a nerve Paige. I think I have a lovely home with things I’ve spent decades collecting. But I go to friends houses, and I’m instantly out of my comfort zone. They often have fluorescent lighting- not kidding, plastic plants or no plants, furniture shoved up against walls, bulky oversized leather sofas, bare coffee tables, no rugs, no pictures on walls….you get the picture. And I always wonder how on earth they they seem so happy. I want to top myself after 10 minutes, haha!! I agree with everything you said and I’m so affected by my environment. (But then- I am a designer).

      @nakitanash ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This was fun to read your comment! Lol, I feel so bad when I don’t like my “friend’s environment” and you did a great job describing the scene. Locally, most of my friends, get it somewhat, but like you, I’m a designer, so I take it next level and it’s my daily obsession. It’s just how I live my life… Natural lighting, open windows, all the elements; water, fire, plants, etc..
      I’m also extremely sensitive to my environment so I noticed things like a placement and flow and I can’t help but fix things wherever I am. People aren’t conscious of it, but they do feel the difference. I use nature is my inspiration. Nature is always changing, there’s Harmony, but not repetition, etc. some of us just have this sense and it’s up to us to help others create an environment. That makes them feel amazing! We are not all good accountants! L O L.

    Don't be sad if your place is small!! For me, the size of my home has never been as important as how I can work with the space. One of my favorites places I've ever lived was a 335 sq foot apartment. If funds are low, get a small, less-expensive place and make that your creative space -- spend 3 years living there getting it the way you want it! Small places are the best.

    you describe exaclty the "away room".....every house needs a room where you can retreat from the activity of the house. Architect Sarah Susanka describes this in her books, the Not So Big Series. you should definitely check out her books, some of it dated, but many principles are totally timeless. My local library has the whole series and I have checked out repeatedly and learned so much from them.

    What boosts my mood *instantly* is walking around barefoot. It connects me to the place, it connects me to myself. So I would make it a rule to always have perfectly clean floors. I also feel grounded by sitting on the floor so I make sure to have thick and comfy carpets and wide pillows specifically for sitting on.
