This was my preferred FD of the 2013 US Nationals Free Dance event. These two were so well packaged in this free dance: loved the choice of music, beautifully edited, interesting and very appropriate choreography, gorgeous costuming and all of this was complimented by the skillful execution of all the elements. Super performance 👍👏👏👏 Thank you for posting this.
Being an ex-competitive figure skater, I absolutely hate US commentators. I'd rather just watch this with just the soundtrack of Memoirs of a Geisha. What kind of silly comment was that at 3:03? I feel like it just demeans and takes away from the Shibutani's performance.
I understand how she couldn't have done much of a routine in a proper-length kimono, but mightn't he have been allowed to wear a bald-ish wig to look more like Ken Watanabe?
It's ice dance, not cosplay-dance. Wig is quite risky, it can fall off and cost them points. Also, why should he look exactly like the actor? Costumes are enough, they reflect the character of the program and that is the point of the costume.
That's a horrible suggestion. Imagine him with a rubber wig. He doesn't have to be bald like Watanabe. He's also not really portraying that character literally.
I love Maia's dress! It gives you the feel of a kimono with the freedom of a normal skating costume.

Why would you want him to look like Ken Watanabe? Is he recreating his character or?
