Inspirational Videos I am old enough to remember that the lowest tax back in 1979 was 37.5% and the highest was about 80% which lead to the brain drain. Thatcher brought down basic income tax to 25%. I remember that interest rates were on average 15%. After Thatcher this had fallen to 8%, still high but half of what it was before. I Remember inflation being 26% which lead to the winter of discontent where rubbish was not being collected, the dead were not buried, power cuts and the army having to step in to run basic services. I Remember in 1979 that 65% of the population lived in rented property or in council houses. Today it is the opposite. I remember 1979 that shares and bonds were only reserved for the rich. Today anyone is able to purchase shares. I remember in 1984 that the government subsidies for a miner was £100,000 per year to keep an unsustainable industry working. Today there are more people who run their small businesses ranging from painting decorating to IT specialists. Back then before Thatcher this would have been unimaginable. My parents were hardly involved with my education at all and I got the best marks out of all the boys in the school. My parents trusted me to get on with my work, and I did it out of a desire to do well myself. All the same, I’m not sure that growing up with no money is such an advantage. People think she was ruthless but her position then was to give advice and support the mothers right to free school meals for her 6 children and advised how to support her to apply for it, and for school milk under the provisions available to her. Yet she still gets called 'the milk snatched when it was the previous labour government that removed secondary school milk, she preserved it for infants and the vulnerable, and then Shirley William'sunder Labour in the next government axed the milk for 5 to 7s! In fact it wasnt even Thatcher that removed milk for 7vto 11s, it was the Education Secretary in post before her and she just happened to have moved into the post at the time it went through!

If only that gentleman who spoke so passionately about his concerns for his own secondary school could have shown just an ounce of courtesy towards the other equally passionate questioners who never got to ask their questions and no doubt were afterwards feeling quite resentful towards him for taking up everyone else's time. You could feel the frustration in the room when the questions were brought to a close. The host was extremely frustrated with him. They should have carried on with the remaining questions after the camera's switched off - it would have been useful to the questioners even if it was no aired to get their replies from the education minister surely.

As a child at school in the 60s we had water fountains and water at the Dinner table, this woman is talking nonsense. Unfortunately her obvious lack of intelligence causes her to be totally unaware as to what level of interruption is reasonable, what real world example is practical to use as a basis for policy questions, how confrontational to be, and how blatantly partisan to show herself to be....Just a complete miss - only tolerable if the watcher utterly despises Thatcher, otherwise most will say "steady on, stop bloody interrupting"

Thankfully I am still experienced enough in life to know that the reason I appreciate her is exactly the same reason you don't.... because she is a fountain of information, and you're not. She, like capitalists in general are confident in their ability to do well in life and earn whatever comes as a result. Knowing you would never compare to her in this respect, or any other like minded peoples for that matter, renders you anti-success, which is the root of your anti-capitalist stance. People out there will do better than you if left to their own, and so, you don't want anyone to be left alone and able to make decisions for themselves. You beleive in a world where we all collectively regulate the situation so that those who actually create value aren't able to reap like-for-like benefits of it. In reply to both of these comments, I have only realised how influential this woman is, I see all the Conservative members making grand speeches about her legacy. It saddens me how they are just what she didn’t want, far too much government control and no strong beliefs in ur or ur parties beliefs. She was and is influential for a reason. The EU. The Individual. The environment. My parents were hardly involved with my education at all and I got the best marks out of all the boys in the school. My parents trusted me to get on with my work, and I did it out of a desire to do well myself. All the same, I’m not sure that growing up with no money is such an advantage. It’s astonishing how much inequality there is in this world.

People think she was ruthless but her position then was to give advice and support the mothers right to free school meals for her 6 children and advised how to support her to apply for it, and for school milk under the provisions available to her.
Yet she still gets called 'the milk snatched when it was the previous labour government that removed secondary school milk, she preserved it for infants and the vulnerable, and then Shirley William'sunder Labour in the next government axed the milk for 5 to 7s! In fact it wasnt even Thatcher that removed milk for 7vto 11s, it was the Education Secretary in post before her and she just happened to have moved into the post at the time it went through!
I can remember Thatcher reducing taxes one of the reasons I voted for. I bet all the negative responses are from the north. God bless you Margaret for saving us from the evilness of labour. God help us all is that idiot Corbin ever gets in.

If only that gentleman who spoke so passionately about his concerns for his own secondary school could have shown just an ounce of courtesy towards the other equally passionate questioners who never got to ask their questions and no doubt were afterwards feeling quite resentful towards him for taking up everyone else's time. You could feel the frustration in the room when the questions were brought to a close. The host was extremely frustrated with him. They should have carried on with the remaining questions after the camera's switched off - it would have been useful to the questioners even if it was no aired to get their replies from the education minister surely.

Fool, they needed people to have big families as those kids grow up to toe to be the next gen of workers. That's why now birthrate have dropped, boomers outweigh young gens and you cannot run the economy without enough young people. When she became Prime Minister she became much more masculine. Here she acts and dresses very femininely.

Her natural voice was soft and low and easily lost in robust exchanges or large spaces, so she learned to modulate her public voice to be lower, slightly harsher register and paced differently...and that's the difference between how we heard her at the despatch box in Parliament or interviews later and this one.

She grew up in a house in Grantham with one cold water tap and a outside toilet.
As a child at school in the 60s we had water fountains and water at the Dinner table, this woman is talking nonsense.
I rember the liitle bottles of milk with straws carried into the classroom by the caretaker, not every child liked milk, I did but I didn't miss it when it stopped either because most children had milk on their breakfast at home.
The point is children were not deprived of milk.
That was Thatcher’s point; by the 70s kids were not coming to school with rickets anymore.
If that movie "The Iron Lady" portrays her correctly at all then I can tell you 1 thing about her is that she could not put herself into the shoes of a poor person as she demanded that poor people pay the same amount of taxes as rich people. She didn't exactly ponder a sliding fee scale now did she.

I started school in 1973 a month before my 5th birthday, and I have recollection of those ⅓pint bottles in primary school at morning break at least at for a few years, or did Labiyr brining back the free school milk after it returned to power in 1974?
Its hard to believe all the fuss about the school milk now. We didn't have it in the 80's and nobody needed it. Have seen comments from others on Thatcher videos who grew up in the 70's and they said it was served warm and very few kids wanted to drink it.

I was failed by one of these so called "Comp" which were terrible.....
I find this very interesting. Even with an agenda broadly similar to Labour (Rene Short congratulated Mrs Thatcher on what was almost a socialist policy) she managed to stir up a lot of controversy. Was that because she was a Conservative? Was it because she was a woman? Was it because she was called Mrs Thatcher? If she had been called Mrs Brown, "Mrs Brown the Milk Snatcher" would not have worked. Perhaps she was not very good at politics? Perhaps she was overrated? Perhaps she had a lot of luck with the implosion of the Labour Party and that her luck abruptly ran out? What do others think? Perhaps the Conservative Party now has serious problems caused by learning the wrong lessons from history.

Hmm,, a man associated with Thomas Carlton School, thinks it's inappropriate that the government has prioritised OTHER schools for funding and redevelopment, and thinks exceptions should be made in his school's favour.....Why didn't the government immediately redirect funds to his school? Seems very unfair, especially seeing as he asked for it so persistently AND was very considerate of the other questioner's around him and the lack of time available to everyone.

She does have a very strong accent doesn't she? It's takes a bit of adjustment but more I listen more I realise why she is held in a certain high regard in Britain. She is very articulate and no nonsense and seems very able to get to a point instead of politicians tending to ay around and avoid answering questions.
