  • New research suggests that overeating is learned in infancy. BYU professors Renata Forste and Ben Gibbs found that infant feeding patterns can predict if a child is clincially obese at 24 months. More details here: news.byu.edu/archive13-may-ove...

I remember hearing this on a BBC programme, that the way a baby is fed can have an impact on their eating habits. It sounds very logical, babies do not learn to stop eating when full and it carries on into adulthood. So it seems that rather than trying to diet, relearning sensible eating patterns would be the way forward. Not stigmatising obesity would also be very helpful, as it is not someone's own fault if they are overweight.

What if the expectant mother has chronically high insulin levels from eating a frequently high carbs (standard American) diet?
What if it is the diet of the mother that is 'teaching' the fetus and then the child to get fat?
Wouldn't such a diet promote insulin resistance in the tiny fragile fetal metabolism?
Would the chronically high insulin be passed on in the mother's milk?
I see this video was done in 2013. Perhaps an updated version with commentary by BYU Prof. Benjamin Bickman would be helpful?
Perhaps you guys could do a study and publish on this subject!
