- Australias only double ended turbocharged streamlined locomotive EMD AAT22C-2R
Locomotive A70.
This unit will be used for broad gauge grain services after it completes testing and faults are rectified.
Recently restored by Bendigo Railway Workshops, Victoria Australia back to mainline running condition after withdrawal from passenger service in 2015. These were always my favorite locos so it's good to have one back!
Further questions welcome.
I'll endeavor to get more videos of the A class when it's safe to do so.
Enjoy.
The cabs have been beautifully restored. Those instruments are so clear and easy to read. That control stand looks brand new! Love hearing that low frequency rumble there at the end while you're pulling. Nothing makes a better mechanical noise than a turbo EMD prime mover when it hits that right frequency. I could listen to that all day!
The Bendigo Workshops always do a quality finish both inside the cab and out, a real credit to them, although I would have thought that they would have dispensed with the old ratchet handbrake (in the engine room at 2:37 mark) in favour of a spring parking brake in the cab. Great video, well done Adam!
Man, the “A Class” it’s the ultimate “Restomod” I reckon! and A70 looks fantastic! 👍
Hi Adam, great video, congratulations to the teams at BRW and SSR for the restoration of A70. It"s great to see it will live to work hard for years to come. Many thanks, stay safe, cheers Lee.
She's a beauty alright mate. A marvel of engineering.
Thank you for the tour.
It was great seeing it pass Middle Footscray. I look forward to hopefully seeing it take on Warrenheip Bank one day.
Great job by BRW as well.
oh wow. I don't think anything will ever beat an A-Class for looks and this one is absolutely mint. stunner.
Beautiful cab Bendigo did a great job refurbishing it, looks stunning
So pleased to see it not only restored, but also being used. SSR need to be congratulated.
PS. Nine to see a loco with a clean windscreen 😊
Went past my house in lake boga great to see the A70 back in service ❤️
woww! interior totally refurbished. Nice Fridge, seats and kitchen
Ah, modern instruments and controls in the cab. I wondered what they would look like so thanks for showing them.
Fabulous loco everything is so familiar in the engine room , the manual handbrake was on the catwalk of our older bo-bo twin cab locos and in the cab of our single cab 121 locos. Hard work putting it on !
BRW have done an amazing job on A70. The cab looks incredibly clean and user friendly, PN Bulk could learn a thing or two from that!
She’s looking great, it’s good to see we have her back in service. Thanks for sharing
Sounds Awesome, looking forward to seeing it hauling BG Grain for many years to come.
That engine is music to my ears. Good to see an old loco back running.
so good to see this type of locomotives still running in mainline❤❤
great video Aussie Train driver it good to see A70 Back to work on Grains trains
super amazing coverage...wonderful rail engine....big like
this is pretty amazing
Fantastic, what a great job. Thanks
A70 looks good very good
Hi aussie Train Driver, are you able to do a video of you talking over the operation of all the controls, and the order they are used? Love watching old EMD'S screaming at notch eight.
Please keep up the great videos.
Been waiting for a video from you on this ever since she was being tested the other week. I did notice she has a few little issues, the idle sounded a bit off. But nonetheless great to see her running again, much better use for the old girl than rotting at South Dynon/Newport and it's gonna sound great with the N's 👌 pity you couldn't get another to go with it but oh well. Sure it was good to be operating an A class again.
she looks awesome
looking great. Love the bulldog front end.
Top video mate! Never seen an a class up close, I always thought they had a 16cyl? Very surprised to see they have 12cyls
V16's when they were B class loco's, turbo V12's were swapped in during the conversion to A's. So, originally 1500hp from a 16-567BC, now 2480hp from a 12-645E3B.
I saw that Aucision announced a re-run of these engines. I'm thinking about grabbing one in this livery. That black on yellow is such a great combination.
Stunning job by Bendigo Railway Workshops and kudos to SSR for financing it. Did those cabs look any better when the locos were brand new? Hopefully you get some grain hauls with A70 on point that you can video. Thanks for the vid.
Great Restoration
Awesome video
Sensational video. Loved seeing these as a young bloke. SSR need an X now maybe they can swindle X49 haha
old school 🔥🥶💯🥵
Amazing to see it back in action and looking all fresh and tidy! The engine could have used a little detailing though!
Do you know when A70 is going to go through again?, would love to see it for myself 🤙🏼🤙🏼
We have the most unique Bulldogs on the planet.
Nice colour scheme as well 😊
SSR are sure throwing some coin at BG locos. Wonder if something significant is going to happen to cause them to need them shortly
A70 is back on the mainline! And she has a name now!
What were your first impressions on driving the A class? 🤔🤔🤔 and is she an upgrade over the Bs?
She looks beautiful.👍
Does this shape go way back to the 1940's? Fabulous looking thing.
Yes mainly the 50s they became a big thing.
its an n class with charisma.
Locomotora ARGENTINA ALCO RSD EMD
I hope the crew always look after the cabin and not turn into a pigsty! Should be treated like a 2nd home LOL . . . Not sure about the Richmond colors :(
Miles better than the shitbox 81 class rebuilds PN accepts from progress
