  • An A&E doctor is warning people against using so-called 'skinny jabs' to get the perfect 'beach body'. Dr Vicky Price became alarmed by the amount of young women of a healthy weight that she’s seen in A&E with complications as a result of taking the jab, which she says could be fatal in the wrong hands

I'm 4 months on Mounjaro and have lost 60lbs and have my life back. Having someone talk about this life changing drug who took it in a friends kitchen, overdosed and then talks about it like its a terrible drug is insane to me.

What a good service this woman is doing. I would never have known that injecting myself with a drug that was not prescribed for me without even knowing what an appropriate dosage is for that drug could possibly make me ill! What a numpty! 🤦‍♀️

ikr! there is enough judgement and prejudice about these drugs and the issue here is her complete and total idiocy and not actually the treatment plan which acclimatises the user slowly WHEN prescribed.

Quite a bit of scaremongering here. For those of us who need it, ozempic has been a total blessing. My diabetes numbers have dropped to pre-diabetic level, my kidney function has improved markedly and I've lost 26kg. And no side effects.

I have been prescribed it for uncontrollable diabetes type 2. I was taking my metformin religiously, improved my diet, and exercise, took the adjunct treatment and nothing worked. I was prescribed ozempic and yes,I've had some awful side effects, which I still get occasionally. However, it's worked. My blood sugar levels have been the best they've been for years ,in range for the last 2 tests AND,my unederactive thyroid has improved so that I am now on less thyroxine and hopefully will be able reduce that further. I've lost 3 stone and weigh less now than I have for years. It has been amazing for me so the occasional side effects I can live with if this drug continues to help improve my many other health conditions which it appears to be doing.

I’m pre type 2 diabetic caused by cancer and treatment. I was prescribed this drug to help my diabetes, but because of this misuse of this drug for weight loss I was not able to get it and as much as my gp and pharmacist tried. I’m now on an alternative tablet which is coursing annoying side effects that I did not have with the injection. I’m still not able to back to the injection as I can only get it intermittently. Yes, I agree this need better regulation.

People often don't understand that nuance, for those with cancer and other health conditions. I have a rare form of vasculitis and was on high dose corticosteroids for decades. It caused weight gain and pre-diabetes. Eventually the vasculitis spread to my heart and I spent three months in hospital, they weaned me off the steroids and but on a new regime of immunosuppressives (sadly with horrid side effects, many of them are chemotherapy drugs like cyclophosphamide, rituximab and methotrexate) and then I lost a lot of weight very quickly and reversed my pre-diabetes. One of my medications I self inject and that required weeks of training from a rheumatology nurse, I can only use my abdomen a certain distance left or right of belly button or upper thighs. I hope you are doing well with regards to your cancer.

Luckily more people are moving to mounjaro. I’m presuming you’re on rybelsus. Unfortunately there’s no stock shortage, the NHS could order more in if they wanted to, to me it makes no sense how small pharmaceutical companies can stock these but the NHS, so I’d probably blame underfunding rather than the people privately buying it, of which the majority are doing due to their GPs not helping them in the first place

Ditch the complex carbs, eat less, exercise more. Lift weights - even if you are weak - just use super light weights. Muscle burns more calories in the long run.. Yeah, it really is that simplistic. Except that takes a LOT effort and commitment, which is clearly something 21st century Brits have no appetite for, if you'll pardon the pun.
