    Love,love,love your training video. I’ve very fine long hair 20% grey. Coloured it 12 weeks ago with 20% peroxide & N7-1 for 45 mins it’s really breaking. Virgin hair growth 5ish, I want to get back to N5 and kill off the orange. Shall I use N5-2 ? 20% peroxide on regrowth & 10% on lengths, or should I go steady and use 10% volume all over. Also timing please for both as I guess 45mins was too long on my fine hair. Thank you for your expertise

    Kristy. I love your informative detailed videos. I have been coloring my roots for 16 years and when needed apply a few highlights. My roots are completely gray now. I have always used 20V with my color. So, if I understood correctly, in my case I should be using 30V? I've never done that as I thought it would damage the hair and cause it to be brassy. Although, I do notice the color fades quickly on the growth I have touch up. I know this is an older video, but if you see this could you please let me know if I should be using 30V on the root growth. Thanks so much!

    Thank you for such an informative video! I'm going to use Igora and try dying it myself for the first time. I have some very basic questions if you don't mind answering? I have virgin light brown hair about a level 6. I'm going to use 7-57 and a little 0-77 with 20 vol to achieve a light coppery color. Do I need to start at the roots if I'm coloring everything the same color? Does it matter? Would you recommend only using the 0-77 on my ends or should I use it everywhere since it's all virgin hair? Sorry it's so many questions! 😅 Thanks for any help!!

      Espero que esto la ayude en algo!

      @kristymaccone7045 Hi Kristy, I would really appreciate if you can help me out , I would love to change my hair color but my hair has been really weak for a while, so I'm afraid it gets weaker or damaged if I color it ..I've been checking igora lately , but I dont know which type would be best for my hair and which color would match my skin(fair to light neutral with brown eyes) & not wash me out without makeup.. my natural hair level is around 6, wavy -medium length "around chest length" with thin ends, it tends to get frizzy when dryed ... I would like to have a lighter more vibrant color & less frizzy hair.. Hard equation, I know 😅.. any suggestions ? 🙈

    Best video!! With shelter in place again here in CA my hair apt is now canceled. Was considering doing baby highlights (partial) myself. My hair is dark, I use box dye, specially L’Oréal 4A dark ash brown to do my root touch ups. My re growth is mostly grey but this dark covers it perfectly! I’d like to attempt a partial highlight myself... But I never know what color to buy!! My hair lifts very well! Always has. Any suggestions on color numbers to use for a partial highlight (2-3 level lighter with cooler tones vs warmer tones) ??

    • @kristymaccone7045
      @kristymaccone7045  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi
      I’m happy to help.
      Thanks for watching
      A lighter hair dye will not lighten your darker base color. This is because hair dye can not lift or lighten previously dyed hair. You will need to use a bleach for the baby highlights. The weaving and application itself is the same, the only difference would be the product you use.
      You can probably use a bleach with peroxide volume 20. And just keep checking the foils so it doesn’t over process. It usually takes like 15-20 minutes to lighten.
      😊

    Thanks for sharing your knowledge! It was very helpful. There are some points that I did not get. For choosing a product to reach our desired color, should we consider or virgin color our or current dyed hair color? Also, the time that we should leave the color+peroxideis counts since we are done with putting all colors on our hair or it counts down once we start dying?

    • @kristymaccone7045
      @kristymaccone7045  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi
      Thanks for watching
      Well you should always take into consideration the natural hair color because you will always have regrowth to touch up. But if your hair has been previously colored you should know that a lighter hair dye will not lighten a previous darker hair dye. But you can apply the same color or even darker if you like.
      Does this help?

    Hi Kristy, thank you so much for this video. I used igora royal for the first time last month and i love it. But, what shampoo and conditioner do you recommend for keeping the color longer. Thanks again, Nancy

    • @kristymaccone7045
      @kristymaccone7045  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Nancy
      Schwarzkopf hair color is great. I like to use a good quality shampoo without sulfate to protect the beautiful results and help it last longer.
      I’m using Oribe right now ( it’s pricey)
      Others I love!
      Colleen Rothschild hair mask is so great. I basically use it as a conditioner. And the shampoo is good.
      Morrocan oil
      Schwarzkopf also has great hair care.
      I like products with Argan oil as well.

    I'm SO happy I found your videos!! They are awesome and your adorable. A few questions. I have very dark brown hair. Many stylists want to add black (level 2) and it always turns out too dark. When they use level 3, I find that it's a little too brassy. My hair has undertones of goldish warmth so a comination of the warm (I guess brassy?) and gold. Must be the combo of Portuguese and British decent. What color would you recommend? A few other questions - and maybe this is so long ago you won't know. What is your lip color and where did you get that awesome top?? Thank you SO much. You have helped me immensly!!!

Can I add some ash? My root touchup color currently is 4N. My colorist is using Pravana. I'm finding as my roots grow out that this is turning very orange/brassy. What color mix would you recommend in the Igora line? Thanks!

    Thank you Kristy. This was a fabulous video you made. You taught me so much. I really appreciate your showing me how to correctly dye my hair. I have a question. My hair is solid light grey.How would I compare that on a chart. I don't know how many levels for developer to use or what tone to use with gray hair. I dye my hair usually with #8 preference and the color just washes out after 2-3 weeks. Now I know I was using the wrong volume and time. I always though of gray hair as having no color but you said there is.

      Hi
      Thank you Peggy
      When it comes to grey we talk about what percentage of grey you have for example; is your hair 30% or 50% or 100% grey?
      I like to make sure that I am using a permanent hair dye that provides100% grey coverage. Use a 30 volume peroxide and leave it on at least 45 minutes. Does this help?

    • @peggykennedy6303
      @peggykennedy6303 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Kristy. I'm 100% grey and since using your video I use thirty percent and use it for 45 minutes and my hair looks much better now than its been. Who ever thought that instead of the 20% that comes in the box that I would need 30%. You've made me so happy! I would like to switch to Schwartkopt Igora color but I don't know what color to use I would like to use a color that would match Preference #8. Its too hard to pick using the pictures. You are so knowlegeable!

    Excellent and informative video. If someone has virgin hair and 25-30% gray, with natural Level 5 hair color, can you use a lighter level hair dye to affect only the gray strands, thus giving the illusion of highlights? So, if they are a level 5, can you go level 8 to cover the gray hairs as blonde? What about demi-permanent color. Would a toner work better since it only deposits color?

      Hi, well you can use vol 10 for a deep black. Or you can use a volume 20 and maybe have a little lift.
      But when it comes to a black color, I always like to use a Demi permanent hair dye. Just in case you want to lighten the color after a while. This will make it easier to accomplish that. It’s like less of a commitment to black.

    Great video Kristy...I need an advice (been looking through YT videos and web pages for two days and getting crazy).
    My natural hair are between a 5 and 6, very ashy, with 7.4 dyed lenghts (reddish undertone was a f*kin mistake). Now, what happens if I dye my whole hair 8.1 or 8.31 with 30% volume? Will it work on the dyed part? Is it better I do my lenghts before, to fix the reddish tone and lighten, and then see what to do with the natural roots? THANKS IF YOU CAN HELP ME, Martina (sorry for my English, I'm Italian)

      Hi
      Thanks for watching!
      I’m sorry this happened to you, I know it can be frustrating.
      Well truthfully hair dye over hair dye can not lighten the previously colored hair, BUT since you are only trying to lift one level, you may be able to do it.
      I would try the 8.31 with volume 30 all over
      OR you can apply the 8.31 with volume 30 to the reddish parts and apply the 8.31 with volume 20 to the regrowth to balance out the color and not end up with lighter roots. I hope this helps.

    I’m a natural level 7 or 8 and very ashy and cool at that level. I’m looking to dye my hair a strong coppery auburn. I don’t want to go any lighter, just to get a rich copper that’s the same level or one darker if that’s how the developer takes it. Would using Schwartzkopf Igora Royal in 8-77 work with 10 volume developer or would 7-77 (which looks a touch less orangey copper, which would be less ideal) be better?

      @kristymaccone7045  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi
      Well if you want it extra copper definitely go with -77
      Bit if you would like more of an Auburn tone then you can even mix a formula like: 7-65
      7-77
      Mixed with vol 20

    Hello from Greece, really nice video, i like the way you analyse and explain everything about hair coloring, just a quick question , i use also igora , i color my root with 7-1 and i use also 7-00 because i have a lot of grey hair more than 50 %, is it correct ? Or 7-0? If i use just 7- 1 will it cover greys?

      Hi Elina! Thank you and yes you can mix these colors. It’s just fine. Actually I tend to mix any color that only covers 30% grey like you did with the 7-1 with the colors that cover 100% grey like you did with the 7-00. I would also use a 30 vol peroxide with this formula. Since the 00 series tends to have more pigment, I like a higher peroxide to work in the hair and avoid any darkness.

    This video is so informative and much needed. Couldn’t find a better video.
    However, I have a question about what level colour to select. My mom’s hair is around level 4. And I want to lift it to around volume 7 with colour that also has grey coverage.
    So, if a person’s hair is at natural level 4, should they select a level 4 colour? Can I select a level 7 or 9 colour for her? Will schwarzkopf igora royal metallics 9-18 be a good choice? We want to achieve a cool light brown or dark ashy blonde effect.

      Mubashshira Waqas I’m so glad you found the video helpful.
      If your mom is a natural level 4 you can definitely go up to a level 7 and maybe even a level 8. (A level 9 is a bit light since it’s going up 5 levels) . You can use the following formula for a cool or ash brown,
      Igora Roral
      1/2 oz 7-0
      1/2 oz 7-1 or 7-2 or 7-3 ( choose one )
      1 oz of peroxide 30
      Ask yourself how much grey she has, ( what percentage is it closer to 30%, 50 % or 100%) This makes a difference in the end result. The formula that I showed you here is perfect for anyone who has grey. I always like to mix the ash colors with the natural colors to cover those greys!
      I hope this helps and feel free to ask anything else!

      Kristy Maccone Thank you so so so much, Kristy! This video has been super informative and made me really understand hair colour. And thank you so much for replying.
      I realised I had another question. Her hair was professionally dyed a year ago, and the stylist used level 5 dye, and I think it was permanent. So do I have to bleach wash her old coloured hair leaving out the new growth? Because I am worried if I apply level 7 dye with 30 vol all over her hair, her regrowth would lift but the old hair won’t and it would be weird. Would that still happen even though her hair has been dyed a year ago?
      Also, I want to use demi permanent hair dye this time so it would be easier to re colour her hair or go lighter next time. Are igora vibrance, pearl essence and the boosters demi permanent ranges? Can the hair be lightened with dye again and without bleach after using demi permanent dye?

    • @kristymaccone7045
      @kristymaccone7045  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I’m happy to help
      Since her natural hair level is a 4 , I’m wondering what peroxide volume was used. Do you know?
      Using a level chart, can you tell what level the colored hair has faded to? If you can answer that for me, I can help you a bit more
      .
      Regarding if you should use a Demi permanent hair color, if she has grey it won’t cover it that well and it will fade pretty fast. Also Demi permanent hair dye will not lift levels( it will refresh the color, darken and tone). See if you can answer those questions so we can create the perfect formula for your mom.

    • @mubashshira
      @mubashshira 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much. I don’t know what volume was used, but her old hair is also back to level 4 again.
      Thank you so much again. I will go for permanent colour to lift all of her hair. I will test the permanent dye on a strand first. If the old hair doesn’t lighten, I might bleach wash just the old hair so it can equally lighten with the new growth, when I lift it with the permanent dye and 30 vol. Is that the right way to go?

    • @kristymaccone7045
      @kristymaccone7045  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that is exactly the way to do it. Test the strand including the part that isn’t dyed so you can see if they lighten equally.( basically the strand from scalp to end)
      if you do have to bleach l,
      really watch it as it lightens and remember it doesn’t have to lighten that much. As long as you can get up to a level seven.
      Good luck, I would love to know how the end result turns out’l!

      Hi
      Do you know what is your natural hair level on a scale from 1 to 10? 1 being black and 10 being lightest blonde
      I’m assuming that you are a natural level 7. And if that is the case I would use a peroxide volume 40. And yes I would definitely lighten the regrowth first and then after washed apply the highlights. It safer that way and easier to keep an eye on the highlights.
      With that said, you probably will not achieve a perfect level 12 but you will get close enough and then will probably finish the look ( get to the level 12) with the highlights.
      It’s sounds like fun. I would love to hear about your results!

    So if you used box color for 8 months or so (level 4) not knowing better on your shoulder length hair (yes, all the hair not the roots only) and were only doing so to color gray roots due to lack of knowledge ( my friend is now so dark and is naturally a level 5) and you are near to black. How do you determine if Igora, Joico, Pravana or what ever color is actually a shade or two darker when applied which is common with many professional colors...example only: a 5-1 Igora Royal looks a shade darker shall we say when applied more then the example color. How does one know if they should go a shade or two lighter to maybe a 6N or mix a 6 and 7. l
    I used to use Joico on my roots when I had darker hair ( natural level 4/5 warmer) now off topic I am very light I used 6N and a very little 7 ash tone and it was great.... to prevent my friend being to dark like the box dye has created and continuing with her roots ONLY for gray to get her back to a darker brown vs. shoe polish flat black my experience is with the professional colors is you need to go a shade or two lighter as so many pull a shade or two dark.
    Probably making no sense... thank you if you understand and I understand if you don't. Your video was very well done. I just don't know how to get her on her way back to a darker brown and she is not one that could manage trying to take her hair up even one level with any method of color removal... Hi
      I’m sorry I didn’t see this message before , I was actually in Costa Rica and now I’m behind with some messages.
      Thanks for watching!
      I think I understand your situation.
      I think you would like the color to be a level 5 right?
      But the ends are now darker from previous dye applications.
      The safest way to go about it would be to just color the regrowth or roots with the natural hair color but keeping in mind that there is grey to consider.
      In Schwarzkopf igora you can use a 5-1 mixed with 5-0 equal parts and formulate with a peroxide volume 30. You’ll achieve a perfect level five.
      And then just hopefully the ends will fade as they grow out.
      Another way to go about is to try and lighten the ends to a level five with a hair color remover or bleach.
      Schwarzkopf usually does not appear darker than the color you choose.
      I hope this helps!

      Hi Riya
      If your hair is that dark that will give you a great base for a beautiful chocolate hair tone.
      You could also probably be able to use a volume 30 peroxide as well, if you want more lift. Other colors I like for the chocolate tones are 5-68 and 6-68. But I’m sure 6-66 is going to look beautiful.

The hairdresser used Igora Vibrance Gel Activateur 6 vol. + Igora Vibrance Ton sur Ton n.5 to cover grey hair and keep my natural color. But according to your video, I would need to use Peroxide vol. 30 with the ton sur ton and leave for 45 min., is that correct? Could you please clarify?

      Hi Thank you so much for watching. Regarding your question, it depends on the amount of grey hair that a person may have. I do love the Vibrance hair line and it will work great if you have less than 30% grey hair and if you are looking to remain the same color that you are or go darker. It is not a product that will lighten your hair or cover much grey.
      If you have more than 30% gray or want to lighten your base then you should
      use a permanent hair color like Igora Royal and mix it with a 20 volume peroxide or higher. I hope this helps

      Hi
      Since you have virgin hair, this should be easy to do. I recommend that you ask someone maybe to help you apply the bleach. This would be good so you don’t miss sections and it will be faster.
      And remember to keep checking you hair so it doesn’t over process. And maybe even use some Olaplex in your hair bleach to protect the hair strand.
      The bleaching is the hard part. So once you get that done applying the hair dye should be really simple.
      Are you bleach all your hair or just the ends?

      So I suppose it’s like a balayage or ombré that you are going to do. I would recommend you watch a video on how to ombré your hair using a teasing technique!
      I like to tease the hair after I section the piece I’m working on. And then apply the bleach to those ends that stay out of the hair that I teased. It gives the bleached hair kind of a subtle look in contrast with the darker part.
      Since your hair is dark you should use a peroxide 30.
      I hope it works out for you !

    • @kristymaccone7045
      @kristymaccone7045  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bella
      I am assuming that the red orange result is probably a lever 5 or 6. You have 2 alternatives: if you like to be a level 5 or 6 which is a medium brown but don’t want to see that orange warmth you can apply a Demi or semipermanent hair color in a 5-12 (ash) or a 6 ash to tone with the developer ( peroxide). That’s a safe process that’s not stressful or damaging to the hair. The second option is if you want to be lighter than a level 5, you can bleach with a lot of highlights to make it lighter and then tone with a demi or semipermanent hair toner. The level of toner should be the same as the new level that was a achieved with the highlights. I hope this helps.

      Hi Nida
      Thanks for watching!
      You are on the right track. The number before the dash is how light or dark your hair will be( level). All the numbers after the dash are the color direction. So in 7-65, it is a level 7 like a medium to light brown
      and the 6 is that chocolate color and the 5 is the gold tones. So that means you will see more chocolate than gold. The first number after the dash is the dominant color direction.
