    I started some teas seeds myself and actually had them soak 3 days. I lucked out that the soaking water didn't get funky. That was in December. I also went thru the other steps in your series and have one out of ten sprouted so far.

    I just stick them in the soil with a happy house plant after soaking and drying them. This seems to be the best at avoiding rot and they sprout when ready

    This is great. I didn't know to plant them immediately. I read that the seed shell becomes hard soon after harvesting. My 90 year old neighbor gave me two seeds and for her I promised I would plant them! I just didn't know these were the same plants that tea comes from. I'll have to look that up.

    I found out that not all floating seeds are bad, like you did the need to be held down, or give it time to soak the water.
    I did also soak the water for three days, but changed the water daily to prevent rot.
    :))

      +Sam Sam In this video, I presented the instructions from the manual published by the University of Hawai (www.ctahr.hawaii.edu/oc/freepubs/pdf/scm-17.pdf). That guide instructs to discard floating seeds, as they might be empty, or produce weaker plants. I too have found that some seeds sink after some time in the water, after initially floating. Good suggestion on changing the water! :)

    Hi, I am planning experiment on germinating "floating" seeds.
    People usually throwing away seeds that float in waterm
    In your dvd I saw you do the same.
    Is there a way you could send me all the seeds you plan on throwing and I will be happy to pay for shipping?

    • @piedmontteaco.6216
      @piedmontteaco.6216  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Sam Sam Good luck on the experiment, sounds exciting! Unlike the instructions I presented in this video, I actually save and attempt to germinate all of my tea seeds. I believe that on a large scale, it makes sense to discard floaters, but on a small scale, or with a small number of seeds, it makes sense to attempt to germinate them all. Sorry, no extra seeds to sell. :)

    I know the video is old but i have question to ask: seeds from china which i dont know how old are they, how many days i should soak them in water, and they also need to be in the fridge?

    • @jayde5776
      @jayde5776 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this comment is old but you just soak them for 24-36 hours. It doesn't matter how old they're. If they float or sink will really determine if you can get anything out of them.

    Cool... and kinda gross. I think I'm gonna stick to just 24 hours in water with my own seeds. I hope I manage to grow some tea plants of my own this season. Anyone have any tips on when exactly to start? I live in Sweden so I think now in the middle of december should be good as they take 2 or even 3 months to pop up above ground. It should be getting warmer and lighter outside by then. Gotta plan around our nordic winter.

    • @TyghWalters
      @TyghWalters 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tim Lavey Excellent! The sooner the better. Tea seeds lose viability the longer they sit. If you germinate them indoors, you can move them outside once the danger of extreme cold is gone. Good luck!
