  • This video demonstrates how to use linear and polar patterns in part design. It also shows how to create path arrays in the draft workbench. These techniques are very useful for creating more complex models that are easily modified.

    Thanks!💯 The pattern along a path was the missing information I needed to make a set of holes along an eccentric circle.

    Well I've said it before but I'm going to say it again, "I always find something new to learn from your videos"; even when I think I'm pretty comfortable with the subject matter! I didn't know about using the draft workbench like that, so thanks! Another great video!

    I think you should be having a LOT more views, but I have a new theory on that. Your videos are so informative, people only need to watch them once, then they spend the rest of their free time working on FreeCAD.

    A quick way to re-orient the model is to use the 6 blue cube icons below the WB selector menu.
    Each cube selects a different face: top, bottom and the 4 sides.
    You can also use numeric keys 1 to 6

      It can also work the other way around, you can transfer a sketch from Part Design menu to the Draft menu and you can use a sketch of the Part Design as a path in the Draft menu. Because I am able to draw easier in Part Design menu than in the Draft menu. (Kipróbáltam, és fordítva is működik. A Part Design-ből át tudom vinni a sketch-et, és azon is meg tudom csinálni a vonalvezetést. Ezért azért jó nekem, mert a PD-ben, könnyebben rajzolok. Ez a fekete vonalakkal még barátkozom :) )

    Another great tutorial. If I needed to make a matrix of holes, would you suggest a compound pattern? A pattern of a pattern? Is that possible?

    • @Adventuresincreation
      @Adventuresincreation  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on what the matrix would look like, you could do a linear pattern and just replicate it

    Awesome video sir. Quick question. When you created the new sketch for circle, your padded rectangle disappeared. Mine still shows. What am I doing different? TIA.

    • @Adventuresincreation

      It's a setting, I have changed mine so it doesn't disappear now. You can always switch it on and off at will.

    The path you sketched showed a number of explicit corners. The circles on that line are placed at equal distances, so did not land on these corners except for the first and last one. Is there a way to have unequal distances between the circles so they are placed on the corners?

    • @Adventuresincreation
      @Adventuresincreation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not in a polar pattern. Create one and play with the parameters

  • @lucagessi4340

    Thanks for the videos. I have a problem with path arrays, it seems a bug but maybe I am doing something wrong. I select circle and then wire, then path array. The array is not aligned with the the circle but it is traslated from the original circle. If I change the counter and then return back with ctrl Z it returns to the correct place. I am using 0.19 version.

    • @Adventuresincreation

    I am doing a part that requires a pentagon, hexagon, and octagon centered on a central hole. I am able to sketch the part and get a polar pattern for one of the shapes. How do I get each of the other shapes to show correctly on the padded part. If I add addition sketches the end result seems to tear apart. ??? thanks

    • @Adventuresincreation
      @Adventuresincreation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as the subsequent sketches result in a solid part, you should be able to just create a similar sketch for each shape.

    • @Adventuresincreation

      When you create the polar polar pattern you can use the dropdown to select a reference. You can select any valid reference including a datum line that you have placed wherever you want it.

    I've made an HO scale oil storage tank and 3D printed for a friend that's into model railroading, but haven't been able to figure out how to make the staircase that curves with the tank without sketching and padding and reposition each individual step, if there's a simpler way could you show how?

    Anyone here have idea regarding error "transformed shape does not intersect support"

    • @Adventuresincreation
      @Adventuresincreation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I suspect that means one of your transformed shapes is out on its own not hitting the main body so the model would be in two parts

      @eridanaeon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Adventuresincreation First, thanks for your response man. Really appreciate. Regarding my issue, not sure if it's due to the fact the body I'm trying to transform is from a sketch that I padded, and from a datum plane I created.
