- Today's video is all about Philodendron! I take you through each one in my collection and this is my first philodendron collection video! A lot of my philodendrons I have had for awhile and some have grown SO well while others have had a little setback. I also received a few new ones recently so I am excited to show them all. YES! exactly lol. Sometimes I feel like I do well and then that urge to buy hits or the feeling I will regret not getting it the next day 😩 I think if I didn't buy so much during the pandemic I would have a totally different collection now in a way. I was buying SO much just to "have" it.

One of the best collections I have ever seen ! I watch your videos and have learned so much also I am a little jealous. I had a horrible house fire about one month ago and I visit my plants every day. I cleaned the leaves and have hoped for the best. Will not be back in my home until January or. February of 2024. Keep showing us your videos, you do such a good job.

Thank you 🥹 Micans likes to grow a lot of it's aerial roots outside the pole in a way. It definitely vines more but it does appreciate more moisture so it can grow them out to anchor on.

I'm also in love with the Philo Lemon Lime. Mine is more of a bright neon green and has some pretty impressive sized leaves as they mature. A few are even half neon half dark green. It reminds me of a cross between the lemon lime and the heartleaf. It's so cool. I was happy to hear you mention that one and all the other more common trailing philodendron. 😊

Hi Melissa! Thanks so much for this video, loved it seeing all the philosophical that you have and introducing me to the majority of them. Can you do a video where you explain the parts of the plants and how they show signs of health and sickness, how the mature can grow through the cataphylls, how to variegate/fenestrate, things that are basic but can help with getting big beautiful healthy plants?
I'd also love to see the video of you transferring your PPPs to pon!
I know you said this season has been draining on you in terms of videos, so I really appreciate your effort and I have loved falling in love with plants because of you! I keep a plant journal now and I finally found a hobby in plants. they bring me so much joy and I attribute a lot of that to you for helping me appreciate and care for them the very best I can! also showing what they can be with different growing methods (poll specifically) and substrates.

I'm with you on the grp 3 plants...totally felt like you were talking about some of MY plants haha. I've NEVER warmed to the pink lady, Jose Buono and the Burle Marx Fantasy. My Pink Princesses, White Knight & White Princess are only now starting to grow now that we are in spring. The other one I have is the White Wizard which is growing so well...keeps giving me lots of nicely variegated leaves. I don't own ANY velvety philo simply cos I cant be bothered with their needs & there higher susceptibility to spider mites. With you philo lemon lime just trim trim trim and it'll bush up real nice. I did that with my Brasil and it's much bushier than before. Your Brasil is beautiful! Your Burle Marx Variegated is GORGEOUS!!! I love it! I have mine in grp 1 hahaha. I have a tiny ROF and I cant wait for it to grow. You should check out Jan's one from Sydney PLant Guy....his is AMAZING and HUGE! Also I need to give my Florida Ghost a pole now cos she's growing so swo much. I have her in my north facing window ( your south facing hehe) and she LOVES IT!!! She is giving me lots of new leaves and they are all either whitish and minty so she's stunning (even if I say so myself 😉 Yours is much bigger though and beautiful. We are kindred spirits Melissa cos I have 3 pink princesses 😆 Your sodiroi is STUNNIIIIIIIIIIIIING!!!!!! And your Majestic is showing how much it deserves its name. And your Splendid is magnificent! Totally agree on the Brandi. Mine would grow really weird and the internodal space was way to big for how small of leaves it was putting out. I had mine climbing but it would never stay upright and would break itself from falling over constantly. Finally got rid of it a few months ago.
My Brazil… 🤷🏻♀ I ordered 5 various single leaf cuttings from Etsy and received them in Oct ‘23. The Mican’s is doing great, marble Queen is doing ok, Cebu Blue is vining and the Snow Queen rotted. My Brazil, however, it stayed alive with one leaf for 6 months and did nothing. I finally threatened it and told her that if she didn’t straighten up and start doing something, she was going in the trash! I figured she had a spent node and wasn’t going to do anything anyway. At the end of April ‘24, I finally saw new growth and 2 months later I have 2 brand new leaves. She seems to be a slow grower for me. 🤷🏻♀
I have threatened a couple of other plants 😆 my orchid for example. My husband bought it for me about a year before he passed away. 3 months after he died, it died and gave me a keiki, which I’ve been trying to grow and nurture. I’ve failed so many times and caused root rot and the last time I gave it an ultimatum… do better or I’m done, I give up. I had watched so many videos on orchid care and it just wasn’t doing it for me. Now? She has beautiful roots and 3 new leaves. Let’s see if she gives me my first flower spike this fall.
I think the third one you were thinking of is white wizard…. And there’s also a red Anderson that’s similar to these white Princess etc…. It’s at the top of my wishlist! The ph. Giganteum is going to get soooooooo big, mine is taking up half the room 😆jk, but yeah…big. Also, your Florida beauty is so beautiful. I bought a cutting for $200 when the price was at its peak and it rotted 💔, scarred me for life 😬.
oh noo! I totally understand that feeling 😩 I'm so sorry it rotted! I was tempted in a red Anderson at one point but wasn't sure if I really needed it with all my pink princesses lol. Giganteum needs its own room one day good to know! 😂🫶

of course!! The splendid has been one of my easiest plants and it grows so well and sizes up nicely!! Once it climbs more you're going to love it even more 😁
Does anyone else have trouble rooting the pink princess up a moss pole?
Sometimes! Since they are self headers their aerial roots don't grow into it like vining plants. I use some plastic grafting tape around the nodes that are more stubborn to root and it helps to hold in moisture. Keeping the pole moist and increasing humidity can help too!
I don’t even have my pink princess on a moss pole lol mine a toooooooo small!
I also feel the need to purge some plants. I feel like if they don’t bring me joy and could bring someone else joy it’s worth it!!

I love my micans too. My leaves are so small though and its dissapointing to me. I will definitely be putting it on a pole thanks to you and hopefully they will size up so I can enjoy their color and texture more❤
They love climbing! You'll love the bigger leaves! They definitely vine on the pole more than really attach in if you're using a wire pole but they'll start sizing up halfway or so then take off 😁
Hey Melissa, you are such a pleasant soul with your plant life expression. Always remember to check first on your plants that are thirsty more quickly. Or that are sensitive in some way. I understand removing the plants from your collection that no matter what you do you struggle with these plants. It just may be that your enviro just doesn't work for it OR you really just don't like it and so you don't care for it as you should. Why then keep it. So I agree with you, LET IT GO. Plants are to be our joy and haven of CALMING and PEACE. Your collection is still GREAT and you put already alot of care into your collection. The more we work with our collections, the more we master them. I've been going to swaps to grow my collection with plants I love. it is slow but sure. I'm going for 300 hundred plants and I will plant similar plants together in the same pot to tame and control my plantdom. That is my top amount I will be able to care for with ease. Presently I've run out of space and will create my final space for plants which is a floating shelf from the ceiling in my livingroom. I already have one in my bedroom and I have a 4 step stool that lets me reach the shelf easily. I started covering my windows with my plastic sheets to protect my plants from cold here in NY specifically NYC. I've lost little to no plants during the 3 to 4 yrs I've been doing this. And when warm spring comes they are ready to take off like a plane. I am now thinking of sealing the cracks and holes from building settle to see if this will do the same thing as the plastic does to shield from cold. I will experiment and see though not this season. I can agree with you on that silver sword. I have one and it grows weird. My sodiroi makes weird little leaves. They are still babies so I'm hoping they will do better one day. Your plants are beautiful. I love my melinonii and gloriosum. They have such big, beautiful leaves.

This was the first time I’d ever heard of or seen a Tortum, another example of the awesome education you provide your viewers. Hello! My gloriosum grew really well in semi hydro (pumice and 25-30% Akadama mix). Give one of your propagation a try on a long pot. 😎
I got it as a water grown plant that was ridden w thrips from the shop. But once I cleaned it up and pest free I put it I semi hydro, which went smoothly because I was already grown in water. Now it’s growing 1-1/2 to 2 leaves a month and sizing up dramatically. Good luck Melissa!
Also, completely not related, but I want to ask: you have this really nice marble Queen on a moss pole- has it ever reverted and what do you do with it if it reverts to all green? I am growing 2 vines up the pole and sizing up very nicely, but both vines have been spitting out only green leaves now. I have it next to an east face window and also have mother grow light on it. No luck.
I love my silver sword(although ive never had to struggle with spider mites). Mine has mature sword leaf shape which makes it stand out in my collection. It's slightly slower geowing for me but i don't have in super bright light

I have quite a lot of the ones you showed, and I'm so sad about your Hastatum Silver Sword ! I love that one, yours looks so cute. My Mayoi is rather large, but always unfolds imperfect leaves, lots of frilly edges to go wrong. My Pink Princess ALWAYS gets stuck. A few I didn't have so thanks for suggestions, but I never have problems with them, they must like my environment and they never have Spider Mites etc. My favourite is the Painted Lady, mine is really yellow nd pretty, but it burns so easy under the lights 💚
knock on wood! haha I have no idea why spider mites love my philos besides the velvety yummy leaves lol. Even in 70+ humidity they come marching in this time of year. I really wanted to love the silver sword so maybe it will grow on me more 🥹
I really like your Burle Marx Fantasy and the Jose Buono.. 💚All my climbers seem to struggle attaching to their moss poles and it boggles my mind but the few I have are fine. I feel like the support is mainly what they need anyway, through a trellis or tied/fastened to the wall or whatever..🤷♀️

The silversword used to be my fave along with the birkin. I found once I got into Hoyas those two kinda became underwhelming for me. Although I still love them I feel I could do without also 😂❤
The variegated Phil Burle Marx might do well on a wide wooden plank. I actually like the aesthetic of wood planks I think the wood color highlights the green plant really nicely and of course they grow SO well in wood!
Pro Tip: try a rougher grain of wood to give roots lots of little nooks and crannies to grab onto!
I would love to find a tortum! I think they look so cool when they get big. I never fully appreciated lemon lime until I saw yours. It's so cute. I love the orangey leaves here and there. 💚🧡✨

I'm definitely still feeling that way! I think pests did a number on me this year as well as all the rot and fungal issues this spring. It was exhausting! Definitely looking forward to downsizing plants and cleaning up my collection a bit!
I had no idea Micans leaves could get that big!!!!!! I might have to grow some up a pole now 😮😮
They can get even bigger if I allowed it to keep climbing without trailing off. The only issue is it climbs incredibly fast once it gets going so it's more maintenance over time I suppose. They're beautiful leaves this size though! ☺️

haha you should do an inventory check and see what doesn't bring you joy anymore. I have a habit of keeping everything and I am at a point where it's too much for one person so I think next year I will be downsizing a bit! Someone told me a rule they follow once and I think I might do this next year. If one comes in then one goes out 😅 That way it will never get back to that point unless you start propagating a ton 😆

I find plants everyones collections has different growth patterns and variegations and you tend to love others more even though they’re the same plants. I like your Philodendron Mamei even though is only one leaf but is a pretty leave and i love your Serpens aswell. I don’t collect Adroids cause of there growth patterns. I only ever had the Pink and White Princess but end up selling cause of the Cinderella feet stuck thing when new leaves emerge. Also leaves bleach brown too. Also i don’t like moss poles. I am more of a Hoya fan, Euphoria, Succulents and Ficus. Wow 🤩 your 3rd Pink Princess is gorgeous so much pink that is rooting still.
