  • Panzer General 2, France, Sedan.
    This will be a playthrough of the Blitzkrieg campaign, trying to recreate my "No Airforce" strategy from about 20 years ago.
    Last 2 minutes are without commentary, due to low mic battery.
    Due to RL time constraints updates to this campaign will probably be infrequent (mostly weekends).

    Watching how he ignores the free prestige (unguarded cities) is painful enough, but then on 18:23 he says "I don't even bother taking these cities, because we don't need them". There are 28 cities (1120 prestige) in total + 2 airfields (80 prestige), and the total amount of prestige you can get on this map *just by capturing* the prestige hexes is 1680. That's a ridiculous amount of prestige that is mostly very easy to grab if you have good map control and fast units.
    I started this mission with around 500 prestige after upgrades and purchasing a few more units without any aircraft save for the prototype Me-110e TB which I sold immediately (Stukas are better TBs). By turn 8 I was controlling all but one prestige hex on the map and the last victory hex (more on that below). During the mission I bought 3 Ju87B TBs, 1 Me109-e FTR, two to three extra tanks, 2 Stosstruppen units and 4 Garrison units to counter the Allied counterattack from the southeast, and still had 1003 prestige left over after completing the mission.
    I could have a BV as early as turn 8, but I wanted to get as much prestige as possible so I positioned a 251/1-towed sFH18 in the final city hex to deny enemy deployment, surrounded the other hexes with other units for the same reason and held two more turns.
    So no, you do need those cities, otherwise you're limiting yourself far beyond the 'no aircraft' challenge.
    *NB* : If you read the manual (that's a must before even trying to play an old game like PG2), you will find that ground units can automatically resupply (Supply Rules section > Automatic Resupply) if they don't move and have no adjacent enemy units.

    Gotta love the hand drawn maps in these games not to mention the music.

    I like beating this scenario by destroying every unit . And achieving a brilliant victory , loads of experience/leaders, and a boat load of prestige. When I leave this scenario I have a luftwaffe Hermann Goering would be proud of.

      @@PhantasmagoriaNL Yeah, Panzer General wasn’t bad either but the visuals there were like step 1 until we got to PG2 and Peoples. Agree with you though for sure! PG2 maps are perfection, absolutely gorgeous! What is your favourite campaign?

    • @PhantasmagoriaNL
      @PhantasmagoriaNL  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@UstashaMe84 that would be the standard Blitzkrieg, mainly because you get the chance to build your army. The other campaigns are a bit too short for that, but in some cases they offer a greater challenge (Defending the Reich for example) or the possibility to fight as the Allies or USSR which can be interesting.

      @@PhantasmagoriaNL I’d have to agree with you! Plus the German military equipment is just so iconic from WW2.I first started playing this when I was around 15 by chance and I was surprisingly good lol. I used to rely heavy on artillery and tanks. There is a clone for iPhone but I’m literally going to buy a simple laptop so I can play this damn game again! Lol

    Why not just win in the first turn? You can take all objectives except Sedan with recons (right click while a recon is moving - hey if the AI uses it it's legit! ), while Sedan is easy to take (Stuka the French arties and destroy them with recons, shell the Sedan bunker, strafe it with the Bf-109 and human wave it with infanty until it's dead).

    Trully remarkable that you tried to invade france without air power. My only objection is that you don't conquer as many cities as you can. This is the scenario that is going to provide you with most of the prestige during the campaign. And that's because you have so many undefended cities to conquer. With so many recon units you should have conquered more and build up your ground armies.
    Great strategy though.

      i always thought this was one of the harder early campaign missions. A lot of troops that are not by the flags but randomly dispersed around the fields. the middle is fairly free, but no matter which direction i push on, I've never managed a brilliant victory--i always get bogged down either along the top route or the bottom route

    • @samschellhase8831
      @samschellhase8831 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      but yes, i'd agree, a lot of free flags to get which means a lot more prestige

      @@samschellhase8831 this is one of the harder ones if you get caught off guard by all the troops in the southeast. There are a lot of enemy units that can catch you out and pick off your units.

    I think you could do even better if you managed your artillery better. you seem to use it on hard targets when soft targets are better for the artillery units to fire on (especially infantry and enemy artillery). and when those aren't available, always shoot before moving! once you move you cant shoot in this game. lastly, move your anti air at the end, so you can ensure it covers as many of your troops as possible, instead of trying to center your troops around an already moved AA truck

    • @PhantasmagoriaNL
      @PhantasmagoriaNL  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically because i can since i'm saving money by not using the Luftwaffe. Also, compensating for the loss of fire power of the bombers (Stukas) more ground forces are needed .

      luftwaffe= air force :)

    • @greatdude7279
      @greatdude7279 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No what I meant was you are using too many units which will resault in massive blockage of your units.
      You are also not using any 8.8 towed anti-tank unit which is great at killing bunkers due to its high hard attack. It took you 2 turns usning 11 units to take and clear first vh when you could use 5 units to take vh and clear the area on the first term.

    • @PhantasmagoriaNL
      @PhantasmagoriaNL  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am sure there are better and more efficient ways to play this scenario or PG2 in general! :) My goal in the entire campaign was to recreate a (completely not historical) 'no-airforce' strategy, with which i played the game when it was released. I think you can still find my 'strategy guide' from back then on some obscure websites. Your point on the AT guns is interesting, i think i never really used those (although i do use the 88 anti air). The focus is in the PT is really on tanks, artillery and AA (and a good use of scouts).
