@@sowdha79 You’d be amazed to find out Saddam was a sectarian, he believed in equality. The party he represented, the Ba’ath party (Ba’ath means renaissance) wanted to modernize Iraq (and did so very successfully) and separate the church from the state. Simultaneously, if you were of any threat to the Ba’ath party you would be punished. This is the reason for the gas attacks on the Kurds and the executions of many Shia Muslims in 1982 (attempted assassination on Saddam). Those that were accused of treason against the Ba’ath party were dealt with brutally. Saddam was not anti any religion or sect of people, even Jews lived peacefully in Iraq. I appreciate you visiting Iraq but I do feel like you took some things straight out of a government website with regards to safety - Baghdad is pretty safe. I live in the UK and going to Baghdad in 2019 as a woman I felt very safe, no thoughts of kidnapping or anything… iraqis are super hospitable and are waiting for visitors from abroad to come so they can show them that life goes on in Iraq and that it is not the Iraq that they might see in the news.

Still vibrant and full of life as you can see :) Can't wait to see the other videos of your 11 days trip where you get to experience Baghdad's delicious restaurants in Masnour and Jadriaya, the vibrant souk of Karrada, the national park of Zawraa, the beautiful street of Abou Nawaas and the other attractions around the city. cheers!

Well, it's 'underrated' for a reason. Don't forget that it was seen as the world's most dangerous country not so long ago. Okay, that is mostly the West's fault, but there is a great reason to why many haven't been visiting this country and still don't do to this day.
Wish there was a love button for this. Most of us would never have the guts to take on such an adventure, but you are crossing borders and breaking through barriers and showing us so much of what we'd never get to see. Thank you

Having been raised up as a non-arab in the middle east was the greatest blessing ever, the culture and the warmth of the people everywhere in the Middle East is something I'm yet to see in any of the more western countries. Thanks for posting this. As a Canadian, all I ever hear about is the US - Iraq wars / bombings / etc., and I've wondered for years how Iraq recovered from that mess. Beautiful.
My family are jews from Baghdad. Although it sounds crazy Once upon a time (in the 1940’s) there were over 150,000 Jews in Iraq. This is where the Talmud was written, and this is where some of the prophets are buried including prophet Yehezqel and prophet Ezra. The Jews from Iraq are considered the most ancient jewish community, outside of the land of Israel, dating back from the Babylonian Exile. Many of the greatest Rabbis also come from this beautiful land including Rabbi Yosef Hayim (the Ben ish hai), and former chief rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef.
Big fan of בן איש חי Ben Ish Hai, Rabbi Yosef Hhayim ; have been learning his books (Hebrew Language) since being introduced to them by a scholarly friend, Rabbi Tsaidi, some 25+ years ago.
@Speed Junkie Common mistake in the Arab world: you cannot have Jews without Israel, without Zionism. If you accept us Israel is part of the package; deal with it.
@Speed Junkie Then your Torah knowledge is, pardon me, superficial and not derived in theoriginal Hebrew Language. Normative Judaism and normative Torah is "Zionist" in that it associates Jewish life, history, and future with the Land of Israel-period. Call it traditional Torah Judaism, mainstream Orthodoxy, or Religious Zionism if you wish. I am NOT talking about either: Socialist G-dless Zionism, nor fringe anti-Zionism like Neturei-Qarta. I am talking about historical, mainstream, observant and Torah-knowledgeable Jews. As long as our cousins Beney-Yishma'el do not accept this, we stay peaceful, but armed and prepared if you attack us.

16:15 Just a small correction! The black garment that women wear isn't specifically for Islam. In Islam, wearing a hijab (headscarf) alone is enough, and the color or shape isn't specified. That black garment is actually called the "Iraqi abaya," a cultural dress traditionally worn by women in Baghdad and southern Iraq, not tied to religion. Women of all faiths have worn it for thousands of years, often adorned with beads to signify good social and financial status. If you look up photos of Iraqi Jewish women, you'll see them wearing it, too. Interestingly, it can be worn without a hijab, showing the hair, that's how it was traditionally worn until hijabs became more common in Iraq in the 80s. The Iraqi abaya was originally white, but after the Mongols destroyed Baghdad's golden era, women began wearing black to mourn their city, a tradition that continues today. As for Iran and neighboring countries, they actually adopted it from Iraq, and tied it to Islam, even though it isn't the purpose of it. Thank you so much for the video ❤️🌼

People like you are making amazing work by highlighting the another face of Iraqi culture , history, and people. Keep the great work up. And y'all more than welcome to your second home ; IRAQ.
Hey I heard about your group when researching my trip to Iraq this autumn! It's really great and I would love to meet some people while I'm there. How difficult do you think it will be for a woman travelling alone?
I remember when I hoped you would visit the mainland (not kurdistan) since you already visited Syria which was more dangerous, the other day I saw a pic of you with iraqi soldier in Samarra. Since then I was waiting for this moment.
Exactly brother! Iraq is much safer than its image shown by Western media. When the travel guide in this video told drew about kidnapping, it really pissed me of. I visited Iraq when I was 16 in 2017, since then I have been to many other places but I found Iraqi people most hospitable.
His Yemeni visit definitely was brave as he did actually go through terrorist controlled areas but he seems really safe here. Baghdad looks a lot better than I thought. The terrorists are dying as well. If the civil war ends and foreign intervention Baghdad being a former capital of an amazing golden age it actually did manage to make more tourism money Iraq was known as the Egypt within the 60s.

Saddam hated discrimination, but he hated “traitors” even more.

@Speed Junkie
Common mistake in the Arab world: you cannot have Jews without Israel, without Zionism. If you accept us Israel is part of the package; deal with it.
Ezra the Scribe is buried here. Copy and paste the following to get the town that is named after him.
Al Uzair

Iraq
@Speed Junkie
Then your Torah knowledge is, pardon me, superficial and not derived in theoriginal Hebrew Language.
@Speed Junkie Israel is not the one who started the conflict. They wanted to live in peace from the beginning.

Just a small correction!
Finally, was waiting for this since you posted this on Insta
That's so amazing. Your efforts highly appreciated. Me and my friends started initiative called Iraqi Travellers cafe on Facebook. Now we are community of more than 30K Iraqi Travellers ..as community we were lucky to host and hangout with travelers from around the world after the Iraqi Government announced Visa on arrival for U.S , Canada.., and for almost every citizen from Europe and Aisa.
Are you Iraqi?
@@thigilman88 yes

Exactly brother! Iraq is much safer than its image shown by Western media. When the travel guide in this video told drew about kidnapping, it really pissed me of. I visited Iraq when I was 16 in 2017, since then I have been to many other places but I found Iraqi people most hospitable.
Great to see the realness of Baghdad itself. I saw a whole new perspective of the country. God bless them
Drew Binsky literally one of the bravest youtubers out there
His Yemeni visit definitely was brave as he did actually go through terrorist controlled areas but he seems really safe here. Baghdad looks a lot better than I thought. The terrorists are dying as well. If the civil war ends and foreign intervention Baghdad being a former capital of an amazing golden age it actually did manage to make more tourism money Iraq was known as the Egypt within the 60s.
Literally as opposed to what? Virtually? Augmented?
