About This Video: I share about books for kids with transgender characters that I've read aloud to my young children; it's so important to read kids books that star all kinds of characters, and transgender people are being attacked by laws across the country so it's important to combat misinformation and to share stories where transgender characters are being centered and celebrated and to lift up transgender and nonbinary book creators. In particular a lot of misinformation about transgender characters in kids books has resulted in trying to get these books banned. These are great books to have on any kids bookshelf; here's to reading queer books too!

You're welcome and it makes me so happy that you found this. The mis and disinformation is extremely harmful and hurtful and I know tons of kids are growing up being taught to fear people that their parents fear just because they won't take the time to educate themselves. But I also know many people are making it a point to talk to their kids about these important topics and educate themselves if they need more info. I have friends and know kids who are trans and nonbinary, and I know all they want to do is live their best life, so anything I can do to help that from by book knowledge, I'm going to do.

Kids are SO easily influenced. I waited till the end of the video to comment because i wanted to hear the full side of your opinion..after watching the full video i still disagree with everything you have said 😢 I don’t think this stuff needs to be in kids books. Body dysphoria does not need to be glamorized, just like any other mental illness is NOT GLAMORIZED! Kids need to be protected.

Thank you for taking the time to watch the video and share your thoughts. It's important to have open discussions on topics like these. You can disagree with what I say; I can't make anyone read any of these books. I'm simply trying to correct harmful misinformation. Body dysmorphia and gender dysphoria are real and affect people. Stating that is not glamorizing it. Would you say a book with a cis kid is glamorizing being cis? Nope, it's just a cis character. If you don't want your kid to know that trans people exist, that's your choice. But they do exist and it's not harmful for them to know that. No one is "turned" trans by reading a book because you can't be "turned" trans. There are many picture books that deal with social and emotional things that kids go through. These things being in books does not glamorize them. It simply states that they happen, and it helps kids get through those difficult emotions. Not a single book here encourages every kid who reads it to be trans. They simply have trans characters in them living their lives. I have read these books to my kids and if you met my kids and I didn't tell you that, you wouldn't see some scarred kids. You'd see fun, happy, kind, empathetic kids. Implying that kids need to be protected by books with trans characters makes it seem like trans people are dangerous, which is simply not true.

It seems you feel really strongly about this. Or just love exclamation points. Hey, I do too!!! I assure you I'm reading age appropriate books to my kids and any other kids I encounter, and books on topics that will make them kind, understanding, empathetic humans. Nothing to worry about! Have a good day!

@@ladyamalthea3218I'm sorry that you think me reading books about humans is indoctrinating. I guess I'm indoctrinating my kids to be kind, understanding, empathetic humans. I'm sorry you're against that. If you are, this isn't the video for you I guess. Have a good day!
