I agree. Nick nailed Reno metro area. I watched this from the gym at Longley and S. McCarren. I got squeezed out of Tahoe (used to work in Incline) by the influx of Silicon Valley workers. Now I'm seeing this in Reno. Carson City is also pricey. Minden and Gardnerville have also gone up in costs. Reno is pretty spot on from from what your interviewee says. Midtown near the Riverwalk is pretty cool. Nice neighborhoods with brick and craftsman style houses and canopy trees. Great restaurants and the Truckee River flows right through town. Downtown near "The Row" (main casinos) and other side of the river are kind of dicey. The area around the mental health complex looks like something out of a Tarantino movie.
I live and work over by Plumas and Moana. Easy walk to Virginia Lake. Kind of an apartment ghetto but generally ok. Cute homes as you get closer to Virginia Lake.
One place you didn't mention is Genoa. It's a cute little town with Nevada's "oldest thirst parlor". Lots of deer roam the street. Walley's Hot Springs is really close.
Mt. Rose and the adjacent Mt. Rose ski area are close by. The terrain ranges from novice to expert (Nightmare double black diamond chute lives up to its name!).
Tahoe is close but so crowded to not be the paradise it once was when I used to live there.

Excellent description. "Everybody from Nevada is an outsider" is so true. There's an incredible tolerance and egalitarianism in the small towns in northern Nevada. It's not a situation like in the south or even the midwest where people's family might have been living in a spot for 8 generations, if you go out there and try to make your way, people appreciate you as "one of them" because that's what everyone has done, more or less.

Nevada and in particular Las Vegas was the best place I have ever lived in the US. I am an outdoorsy type of person and Las Vegas is centrally located in the west. An hour and half from Zion NP, Bryce Canyon, Mt. Charleston, and a weekend trip to California beaches. Tons of sunshine all year round in Las Vegas and a lot to do in the city as long as you have control over yourself and don't gamble or drink excessively. Never a dull moment in Las Vegas. I miss living there.

He's a one man show that's why he's the only and ultimate boss on everything unlike the corporate run casinos in the valley. South Point is our favorite local casino unless we want to do some splurging then we go to M Resort.
As for Sweet Tomatoes, you're right. They used to be really cheap and recent years, they became expensive. We are members of their club and we don't go there unless we have big discounts especially when it's 2 for one. And we never go there for dinner, only lunch time.
As for selections, yep. No meat. My husband loves their salad specials especially their Greek salad every October, their bread section and their onion soup. I only eat same thing: Asian salad, their tuna salad with pasta and tarragon (my favorite), their chicken soup and of course some bread like their sourdough with butter and honey. We go there for our favorites.
In recent years, it was worth going if you have coupons but it's a good option on weekends when all buffets are dinner priced except with Station casino buffets which are not really our favorite.

I think it is better, they probably have some gated communities that are nice to live in. But I still see a surprising amount of crime reports from there in the Review Journal. Though my city of Las Vegas still puts Pahrump to shame in crime. Another murder last night. It's bad this year.

Water limitations will limit some growth. Las Vegas is pretty much out of room to grow (though they did work out a deal for some land by the Native American reservation of Snow Mountain for more housing). I'm actually glad our growth is slowing down. The city is a far cry with what I grew up with in the 80's. Not sure what will happen when the water runs out.

When I was in my forties, I started going to NV to relocate after 55. And then I met my current wife, had a son for 50th bday. Fast forward past thè reasons, now I'm living in Thailand. There's no open space here. Where we live is #1 for rain and humidity. I learned rudimentary Spanish pretty easily. thai is a language best learned when young.
I don't have time to know other states like I know NV and its people, so when I return to the U.S., it is NV for us! I truly miss it.

In the late 1980s, Hollywood produced an action television series that took place in Reno, Nevada. It featured the late Robert Conrad of, "The Wild, Wild West" fame. The tv series occurred during the winter months in Reno when a lot of outdoor snow recreational activity was happening, skiing, snowboarding, and other things folks like to do outdoors in winter snow country. The show's weekly premise centered around Robert Conrad and a team of professional, county rescue members on snow mobiles and skis, helping people who got into trouble on the mountains around Reno. Of course, such influx of a winter population sometimes brought in outside crime and criminals, which Conrad and team encountered and helped local law enforcement suppress.

I loved living in Las Vegas. Not so much for the gambling, but the food and lots of stuff to do off strip. Also the natural beauty. So much to do if you like outdoor activities. Ely is a great escape a few hours from Vegas.

Lived in Las Vegas metro area for 2 years and pretty much hated it. Very isolated people living in their own world not opened to building friendships. The strip gets old very fast. I liked the peaceful lifestyle next to the mountains. After a while I get trapped surrounded by mountains and far from any other large city. It can be very depressing and and stressful. I felt driving to LA near the water gave me peace. Now I live in Philadelphia metro and love it. I’m now close to nyc, dc, mountains, beaches and a 8 flight to Europe.

Went to Las Vegas recently on a road trip and it was a cool experience, I feel like there are some easy fixes (looking at you homeless people and showgirls on the street) that would make it a much better city, but some of the neighborhoods and places in Las Vegas/outside of Las Vegas is possibly the best spots if you wanna move there but it’s cool and enjoyable but somewhere you probably wouldn’t wanna stay foreve

Fun Fact, Las Vegas was established as Mormon settlement. FF #2 , the character of Lefty Rosenthal (Robert DeNiro's character) in the movie 🎥🍿 , "Casino" was based on a real person.
Las Vegas I've said over the years is the only place in the world where you can win a jackpot of any size, lose most or all of it , get married by 3
Elvis, find out he's the judge when
you get the above marriage annulled the next morning, go home and plan your next trip.
