- Excerpts from the session on Quality Control and Analysis of perfume.
Introduction to QC GCMS Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry. A method of separating and analysing perfume, flavours and volatile mixtures for quality control, research and 'matching'.
The Art & Technology of Perfumery Workshop March 2012.
Lecturer: Stephen V. Dowthwaite, PerfumersWorld with students who have traveled to Bangkok for the course from UK, Oman, Indonesia, France, Singapore, New Zealand, India, Poland, Japan, South Africa, Australia and USA. - วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี
An essential difference since this talk was given over 11 years ago is that now generally Mass Spectrometers use Quadrupole detectors where after the gas molecule with material enters the MS from the GC column and passes over a filament that fragments the molecules, knocking off electrons and producing a charge, the m/z or mass to charge ratio, on each fragment. The charge allows the fragments to be drawn into an electromagnetic field between 4 electromagnetic poles. The charges on the poles cycle through settings that allow only 1 fragment type based on is m/z ratio to traverse the path and hit the detector which counts and calculates each fragment's mass and relative abundance to all the fragments of the whole molecule as the detector cycles through a range of molecular sizes over and over again at lightening speed. The Spectra is then compared to a several hundred thousand Spectra of chemicals in a database and the closest matches with their probability listed.
Wish I had him as an instructor back when I was training on GC/MS. Very thorough...
Excellent information. Thanks for posting the whole serie of videos!
Thank you for posting. It cleared up a lot of confusion.
Thank you for posting. This really cleared up a lot of confusion.
GCMS-QP2010 seriesERROR DISPLAYS
"[0d97] Low Vaccum ERROR. Chesk for vaccum Leak."
I replaced: o-ring,septum, liner.
Vacuum control in I can not turn on the ion source AVAILABLE FUNCTION "on"
how the MS remove the source of ions? I can not open the door to MS (probably sucked into).PLEASE HELP AND Thanks for advance!
Great training fo all.
it is nice presenration
yeah, he was prepared
Sir in GCMS all molecules get in seperate form so how can i get the perfume Formulations?
Or is it easier to get formulation in only GC FID?
Very nicely and simply explained. Thankyou
Vb
Hello, I am interested in the GCMS analysis of perfumes. Do you plan to conduct this workshop again?? If so, when?
Do you know retention index???. if you know, please you can contact with me . please. Facebook. Đỗ Ngân.
how did u learn then?
GOOD INFORMATION.
Thank you very much Its really help full
Bruhhhhh stupid ass
Legends please!
can't download ,why?

@@shreejeethrd1136 Please check the website for workshops
how much sample required GC analysis
A fraction of 1 gram, a wet smelling strip or even just the headspace above a sample but for convenience 1 - 5 grams is generally better.
n the teacher got dam brilliant
What does it mean that mass spec doesn't mean anything without a computer? With all these simple molecules, a lot can be learned from just looking at the mass spec data and figuring it out yourself. No need to have a computer compare it to a database.
+Prometheus4096 not all molecules are simple

Doesn't really matter. If you have a pure sample of some unknown and you use both MS and NMR, you can know what it is even if it is a big molecule.
What they guy is saying is just wrong.
Now if you have a complex mixture of 200 unknowns, very similar and big molecules, that is different.
nice introduction about the GC & GCMS
Not interested in perfume at all but this was some good info
Cheers!
