Ricky Gervais is getting more moany and about saying how little he cares, because he won't live very long anymore, as he gets older. It's easy to recognize that this must be himself. I also don't remember him saying anything else, aside from the producers or planners being very desperate to hire him again.

Love Steve M (which is sorta my name too) I have binged listened to the XFM radio shows and all the podcasts, for me, he's defo the one with the quickest natural wit out of the three. Karl, while IS funny, is only being himself and not trying to make jokes, he just IS funny to the rest of us. It's notable that a lot of things Karl has said in innocence ends up in Ricky's live material. I am like Leonardo Dicaprio in that scene in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, pointing "THERE IT IS" whenever I hear something that's been morphed from someone Karl had said.
Mackrill sounds nothing like Merchant, but I admire your imagination mate :D

totally agree. i've been listening to XFM podcasts for maybe ten years now and steve is the one who stands tall for me. lethaly quick and witty. i missed so many of his remarks and his overall funny persona possibly because it gets often overshadowed by ricky encouraging karl to be mean to steve. to be honest i grew to dislike ricky for that reason. i can't help but feel like he's a selfish bully on XFM. and as you said, i've also noticed some of karls musings appear in ricky's specials. it exposes ricky in many ways and although he is naturally very funny and smart once one sees that it is hard to like him as much as one used to

Can you imagine Karl on top British TV talk shows like 8 out of ten cats, Would I lie to you and Graham Norton etc...would be Legendary, shame Ricky never pushed him in that direction. His book sales would of been through the roof.
Karl has no ambition to do that kind of shit. He'd rather just have a potter about and worry about bugs in his back garden and date dave hill from slade.
