Looking forward to seeing your DS practical course video. Have mine booked with Solent Boat Training in November.
Currently doing my Theory with Ardent as well.

I'm so glad you have started this channel, I'm a wannabe sailor/boat owner with no real experience, and I'll be eagerly watching your journey from a novice to the expert sailor I'm sure you'll become. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work. Fair winds👍

Thanks for the heads up on Ardent Training, did my comp crew with Ionianmode this summer and am keen to move on to Day Skipper now. The Ardent online course for the theory looks great!

They do a free trail of the day skipper course which i'm on right now & they really are there for you. Reccommended.

Yep, I took the free trial and am doing the full course now. It's really well put together. Aiming to pass in next couple of weeks and do the practical in October. 🤞

I did my DS theory recently- being a bit older than you I preferred to do it face to face. My biggest learn piece of advice is that you need to know the material before you go on course first. The course doesn’t do much as teach you but rather puts into theory practice what you should already know - not what I expected but passed 😊

Great advice I wish I had before starting. As I said I’ve already started revising sections that o feel I need more time with, lights shapes and sounds in-particular I have gone back to. Navigation was my strongest section by far having a military back ground I found that section easiest, but pilotage plans still took me a while to create.

You should laminate those charts they will keep you longer. Or there is a template where you can always download?

I am surprised that you are permitted to refer to notes during the assessment.
I am currently doing Day Skipper in a classroom over three weekends. I have done two weekends and the first assessment is on the Sat of weekend three, along with the rest of the theory not yet covered. The Sun has the final bit of teaching plus the chartwork assessment. This means that as of today I am revising a lot, doing practice questions, and trying to work through enough examples to be confident.
I wonder if I can use my notes in assessments as that would be useful for sounds, lights, shapes as well as other stuff like remembering the order of True to Compass and back.

Yes absolutely notes were essential as the RYA does not expect day skipper level to remember everything off the top of your head. Lights shapes and sounds is a large module and notes for the assessment are essential, I would not have passed with out my notes. Best of luck with your exams 👍
