    PLEASE proceed with courtesy on ALL videos, especially background screening videos. I love helping others, but it really makes me feel some type of way when I get rude and insensitive comments on my FREE videos. Some folks do not realize how long it takes me to create one video and all of the other stuff while I work a full-time job. I hate to remove the option to leave comments, but the lack of respect makes me want to start with removing the comments, then proceed with removing the video if it comes to it, and stop creating these free resources for those who aren't seeking help in HR. Let's not get there. Just be respectful. 💜

    Why won't the company do all that before even giving you an offer letter etc. Very nerve racking after accepting an offer and giving your 2 weeks notice to your current job !

    • @HeyyyHR
      @HeyyyHR  ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Bc they’re supposed to give the job offer based on skills, not your screening. It’s actually the fair way, I will never have a company run my background without a job offer.
      Just tell them that you can not promise a start date until they finalize the screening. Don’t quit your current job until you know for sure the job offer us solid. Typically, that makes them move faster.

    Why is a credit check even part of the background check? What does a persons finances have to do with their ability to do the job? There needs to be a law to have this stopped, to me this is just a form of financial discrimination.

    • @VegasDreamin
      @VegasDreamin ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It shows how responsible you are they are making sure you are not reckless. If u are reckless with ur own credit and finances you will mostly be that way for the employer. not all people do make mistakes but like she said in the video it's a behavioral check basically.

    • @dnlprls
      @dnlprls ปีที่แล้ว +34

      @@VegasDreamin I am sorry but you are very wrong. People go through rough times and have to choose to pay for basic life expenses or pay credit cards. What do you think is going to come first? Again this has nothing to do with your ability to do a job, and if you think it does then you are very mistaken in your mindset

    • @HeyyyHR
      @HeyyyHR  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@dnlprls that’s the reason they look at trends. That’s something you can explain & that will be disregarded. I’ve hired tons of folks with horrible credit. I would think that you don’t want to give your credit card to a stranger who abused their own credit. Great thing is credit checks don’t apply to all positions. It’s focused on those who will get access to use the company’s finances. If you’re not applying for a job that comes with a company credit card or access to charge costs on the company’s behalf, then ignore it and\or tell the company you don’t feel comfortable allowing them access to your credit history.

    I was turned down for a bank job because I had "bad credit". I asked them, how can having NO credit (no debt) be considered "bad" credit? At the time, I used cash for everything and didn't have any credit cards. It was highly unfair to be rejected for a job for being debt free.

    Companies use all-in-one background check tools to know more about a potential candidate. Some of the information it can return are personal details, criminal records, finance reports, social media, and other references. In terms of criminal records, in case you have one, as long as it has no direct effect to what you're applying for, it shouldn't be an issue.

I changed the title because a recruiter had told me to and said that company will never check it. Now I regret it. What should I do on my background check? Should I tell the background company the truth ?

    • @HeyyyHR
      @HeyyyHR  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most background checking companies use different resources to pull data instead of the info that is regulated by federal guidelines. County checks is one that is regulated by the feds. In addition, companies could have seen past records & decided for whatever reason that they’re ok moving forward regardless of the charge - every company has its own policy on what’s acceptable or not. It annoys me when companies hold a single charge as a reason to not extend an offer when it only happened once & when it happened over the ban the box timeframe.

      Those lists are internal. Honestly, I was on the ineligible to hire list for a huge hospital here. I called years later and got it removed. Hi Timeka I am in the process of getting an offer and they told me they want me to complete a background with GoodHire. The issue is I mentioned in my resume that I was at my position longer than what I really was(stated I worked there for about 14 months when I worked there for 7 months) cause I was afraid that I would be rejected automatically due to the gap in my resume. Should I mention my actual dates in the background check? I’m just praying that they won’t notice or say anything and I’ve been struggling in this market

    • @HeyyyHR
      @HeyyyHR  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      First, you aren’t supposed to be asked to complete a screening BEFORE getting the job offer. But if they’re making huge mistakes like that then I would suggest putting the correct dates on the background screening & hoping they don’t realize the difference. Personally, I would ask them to confirm the job offer first.

      Not necessarily. They could be pulling info from different sources. Best way to know you’re standing & what they’ll find is to pull the county record for every county you’ve ever lived in.

    What does self reporting mean

    • @HeyyyHR
      @HeyyyHR  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In reference to criminal reporting, that means informing the city and state of charges showing on your county report and that could also mean turning yourself in for a charge that you have but law enforcement has not been able to find you.

    • @HeyyyHR
      @HeyyyHR  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Juan, I'm sorry your going through this. Employers are supposed to give you a copy of your background screening results. You should request them from those companies that you've given permission (aka where you've signed an authorization form for a screening). Next, good job on getting your criminal record from the court house, but is that from the state, county and federal record departments? If not, then you have not pulled your entire record. I would suggest starting with the county (they're the most accurate) then move along to the other two. Employers do not have the authority to add anything to your criminal record UNLESS you did something that is criminal in the eyes of the law. I hope this helps. Sending good vibes your way!

    I've been on an unpaid FMLA for the last 2 months and it's wrapping up. I came across an opportunity during that time and it's showing my employment ending during the same time as the FMLA started. I told them this when asked today, I'm just a bit confused...I don't want to tip my hand to my current employer but also am concerned as to why it's showing that way. Does it go off of last paystub received?

    • @HeyyyHR
      @HeyyyHR  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are several reasons this could happen. The first that comes to mind is that the person who gave the verification may not have known how to identify that you’re on FMLA leave & was only looking at pay dates. Second thing that comes to mind is what HRIS they’re using & how are they using it.
      Regardless, I would contact the company that’s doing the verification, explain the situation (via email preferably) then attach/provide your FMLA approval form which shows your approval dates for FMLA.
      Don’t leave me hanging! Lol Give me an update or schedule a call with me.
