Scooter Won't Start? Manually Choke Your Scooter at the Air Filter | New Scooters 4 Less

  • Having trouble starting your scooter? Collin shows us how to manually choke your scooter at the air filter to help get it started. These 4-stroke carbureted scooters can be challenging to start if you have left them sitting without use for a period of time because the carburetor can get a little gunked up with stale fuel. Doing this will often allow you to get it started, break up any gunk in your carb, and get you going again. It would be best to put some fresh fuel in your tank after getting your scooter going again.
    Think you need a new carburetor for this scooter? Email us at parts@NS4L.com and we can mail you the part to help get you going again!

    Early in 2004, an opportunity presented itself that would forever change the direction of my life and the culture of an entire community. I would sit at a bus stop day after day trying to catch an RTS bus to campus and this bus would pass me by with the words FULL BUS displayed across the top. This opportunity merged with a drop shipping and importing opportunity with one of my best college friends and ultimately led to the creation of New Scooters 4 Less in March of 2004. 14 years later, New Scooters 4 Less (NS4L) is one of the largest scooter dealerships in the United States and continues to break its own records and the sales records for some of the top scooter distributors in the country. NS4L has provided jobs to tons of amazing people, reached millions of dollars in revenue, sold thousands of scooters, and has serviced thousands more.
    NS4L has become well known within the business community for it’s unique, eccentric, and innovative culture developed around a single core value: Create and recreate the Ultimate Customer Experience, or UCE.
    Since the birth of NS4L, the University of Florida and the Gainesville Community have forever been changed.
    Our vision is to be the most trusted, go-to scooter dealership in existence and to revolutionize the entire scooter industry through our core values, innovation, and by creating that ultimate customer experience. We want to make Gainesville, FL the scooter capital of the world!
    Over the years, New Scooters 4 Less has been recognized with several community awards including Purpose 20 Award (2015), Impact Award (Collin, 2015), Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year (2015), and many national awards including Gator 100 (2015), Top 3 Dealer for Bintelli Scooters (2014, 2015), Number 1 Southern Dealership for Bintelli Scooters (2016), Top 5 Dealer for Wolf Brand Scooters (2017), Top Ten Dealer for Genuine Scooter Company (2015, 2016), and Number One Dealer in the Country for Genuine Scooter Company (2017).

  • @abdullahaljanabi7278
    @abdullahaljanabi7278 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey man! This is the method I’ve been using for about a couple of weeks now. My scooter is a lexmoto fms 125, when I bought it second hand it worked well for about 4 months then over a 2 month period it was struggling to start ( the time it took to start increased as the days went by) eventually it just didn’t start. So I consulted a few moped experts and they said change spark plug and lead so I did and it worked, however the engine will shut off at traffic lights and when I’m nit revving. So now when I start it. It struggles to start and about 2/5 times will start however the other 3 I would need to manually choke it. Any ideas on what to do, I would honestly really appreciate your support!

    • @NewScooters4Less
      @NewScooters4Less  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there. Sorry to hear of your issues. Have you adjusted the idle? It sounds like that could be part of the issue. How many miles are on it. Do you know if it has had a valve adjustment ever? Sounds like that could be part of the problem too.

  • @SegaDisneyUniverse

    Got recommended this video after trying to figure out why my scooter is having trouble starting up. Charged my battery this morning abd it refused to start up. Swapped the CDI box, still nothing, checked the spark, cranks but won't start. Can't kickstart it because doing so I broke the dang teeth. Just swapped the Starter Relay and continues to give me the middle finger. Been having the worst luck ever! I will definitely give the choke method a try though!

    Are you supposed to have a cap at the end of that or some kind of ventilation valve? Mine is completely wide-open like it’s missing apart. What part of the scooter is that exactly?

    • @NewScooters4Less
      @NewScooters4Less  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Correct! There is a little cap that goes in the inlet tube to the air filter. This helps control how much air flow is entering the tube. If you need a temp fix, you can clamp part of the inlet tube closed using a zip tie or something to close it a bit, but if the piece is missing, it's best to get a new cap. If you need help getting one, email service@NS4L.com and we can get you one if the scooter is similar to ours. Thanks!

    • @NewScooters4Less
      @NewScooters4Less  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What fuel are you running in it? Had it been sitting for a while? It's usually a sign of bad fuel / gunked-up carburetor. May need to do a deep clean on that fuel system.

    My scooter keeps melting the sparkplug electrodes. Then it just wouldn't start. Replaced the carburetor and fired up but didn't run right and melted another spark plug electrode. Any ideas? Difficult to say. If it sat for two years with some fuel in the carburetor, it's probably gunked up and needs to be replaced. You could try that first, but worse case... replace the carburetor, fuel line & filter, and maybe even the fuel pump (fuel petcock). Good luck!

      Sorry to hear about the injury. Prayers for your husband! It could be the fuse (video here: th-cam.com/video/L0qXHGMz6ls/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared) or the ignition could be unplugged. Hopefully that will get you the electrical power. Once you do that, you are probably going to have to flush the fuel system and put fresh gas in it, fresh fuel lines and fuel filter, and clean/replace the carb (the jets are probably clogged up). Hope that helps some!

It sounds like you have gas sitting in the carb and then after 30 seconds it is running out and fuel is not being pulled down into the carb. Also, more noice doesn't equal anything else than more louder engine sound.

    What about sitting in storage for 2 yrs

    • @NewScooters4Less
      @NewScooters4Less  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it wasn't properly prepared for storage that long, probably needs a complete fuel system cleaning OR fuel system replacement. If it's a scooter like what's shown, I would drain the fuel tank, make sure there is no rust in the tan (if it was left outside), replace fuel petcock, fuel line, vacuum line, fuel filter, and carburetor. Refill with 93 octane. Should be good to go. On a more expensive scooter, I would clean the primary components like the carburetor with carb cleaner. Hope that helps.

      Yes. It's a 2005 Honda Silverwing I barely rode. Moved 2 yrs ago and put it in storage. Trying to save money now. So I wanted to take it home before the end of the month so I wouldn't get charged for May. Went and bought a new battery but it still wouldn't turn over. Probably gonna have to get a UHaul to get it to a mechanic. 15 yrs old.....and not even 2000 miles on it. Around 1765. Too many vehicles, it gets overlooked. Now I'm paying the price. Don't wanna sell it being paid for. Just wanna get it home out of storage. Even the light under the seat dont come on anymore. And that's with the new battery in. Something really happened with it just sittin in there.

    If anybody has a clue about the issue my scooter has, i can't find the fix: a 2012 Piaggio MP3 125cc with fuel injection and only 800km on it (it sat in a garage for years).
    I did the following with no impovement : replaced spark plug, drained oil, new oil filter, new lipo battery, adding injector cleaner to the gasoline.
    When it's cold, it starts *perfectly every morning*, and it will even start 10 times a day *if not driven* (even warmed up!).
    However, *once it has been driven for any length of time*, whether it's 5 minutes or 2 hours (and it runs very nicely with good power), *it won't start again when it's hot and has been driven.* Sometimes, it actually does start a second time with a longer cranking period but then dies off after 10 to 60 seconds, and after that, it won't start at all until the next morning.
    I would appreciate any help to get me on the right path to fix this issue.

It is a pretty shady shop but there are few alternatives. I live in Tampa, FL. @@NeuroDeviant421 I'm sorry. That's a bummer. A lot of places don't like to work on trikes and I agree... Ice Bear is not the most reputable brand in the business, but there are probably nicer ways for a shop to communicate that to a customer trying to bring them business. It's difficult as a shop in this business though. You fix one thing and then 30 days later something else breaks because the quality isn't great and customers get frustrated (even though it's not the shop's fault) which is probably why they won't service it. We've seen that kind of thing time and time again. Still could have communicated it nicer though. A lot of Chinese scooters like that can have valves that are off and that can cause issues like that.
