      If it's not this, then it may be a vacuum leak somewhere. May want to have the mechanics check for that.

    when the wheel spins on idle tho its not enough to move you but it does mean that the clutch is in contact with the bell and that means wear. what i do is I run the engine cold, and when the enricher stops, it drops in a very low rpm, that's when i adjust it low enough that it doesn't stall after the enricher turns off.

      From what I've understood is that, when the rear wheel starts moving, it's not idling thru the pilot jet, the main jet kicks in.

    Yes sir. It's a 150. I couldn't reach the screw,nor could I see if it was a torx, Phillips, or hex. So I took it to the local motorcycle shop in visalia ca. The guy said it was a 2.5mm hex. So he gave it a turn or two. Brought up the idle and away I went. (He didn't even charge me)
    I rode around town like i had been doing before. And after over an hour or so of riding in city traffic, making u turns and stopping at intersections.. The bike give me no more problems. 🤙🏾

    • @NewScooters4Less
      @NewScooters4Less  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, if your idle is indeed too high, this would help. However, other issues like a broken clutch, clutch spring, etc. could also cause the rear wheel to "stay engaged" and keep moving as well. But start by adjusting the idle and see if that helps, especially if your idle speed is revving very high.

  • @93paxon
    @93paxon 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    My issue: Where you have it on the center stand it idles fine, but the back wheel is moving. When I hit the rear brake, then it dies out. It's like the power from the motor never disengages from the back wheel. Thoughts?

    • @NewScooters4Less
      @NewScooters4Less  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is your concern that the back wheel is moving when it is on the center stand? (As long as the scooter doesn't feel like it is pushing you when it is on the ground,) it's ok for the back wheel to move a little bit when on the center stand because when it is on the ground, it won't. Does that make sense? (Think about it like a car... When you take your foot off the brake in a car and it is in Drive, it wants to creep forward. Your foot on the brake is keeping it from moving forward. It's similar with a scooter... when your scooter is off the center stand and on the ground, the brake and your body weight keep the scooter from moving forward (unless of course the idle is too too high and the scooter feels like it is pushing your forward when idling)). Hope that helps!

    • @93paxon
      @93paxon 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh it’s definitely pushing me. It jerks the whole scooter with each stroke of the motor until it dies. I’ve adjusted the carb with the same symptoms. That’s why I wonder if it’s the transmission assembly

    • @NewScooters4Less
      @NewScooters4Less  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@93paxon I'm almost willing to bet it is 100%! Sounds like the clutch may still be engaged when you are at a stop. Probably a popped spring on the clutch assembly! Definitely check that out!

      WIth it being that new, I'd take it back where you bought it. If it bogs down when you use indicators, etc. then it's probably an electrical problem. I would start diagnosing by checking all your ground wires first to make sure none of them are broken.

      Check your ignition wiring. When you turn the steering, it is probably pulling on the wiring and causing the ignition and/or kill switch to function which is cutting it off. I'd bet it is something in that wiring up front by the steering. Also check the wiring for any cuts, tears, etc. in case something is rubbing the frame and shorting out (but my guess is that you would be popping fuses if that was happening).

      Depending on what kind of scooter it is, it probably has an electric choke attached to the carburetor and that is why it slows down after it has been running. Is it only doing the little 'misfire' after you first start it? May want to give the scoot a couple minutes to warm up. If it is misfiring while all the time, then you could have a spark plug issue, but it could be a few different things. Also check to make sure that the air box that attaches to the other side of the carburetor didn't pop off. Make sure it is nice and snug on the carburetor. Make sense?

      @@NewScooters4Less i checked the vacuum lines and intake manifold. No problems. I also discovered another thing. The scooter works completely fine, every time i take it out of my basement, as if nothing is wrong.
      Although if I leave it outside in the winter weather and start it cold, that's when the problem occurs. Same problem, it idles high when it's cold, and sputters/bogs more and more as it warms up. Dies completely after driving for a minute, (especially when releasing the throttle) and won't start again until cold.
      There is spark, and the spark plug is brand new.
      After it died on me i removed the spark plug and inspected it. It was a little black, not too much, which usually is a sign of a rich mixture, but no other signs of it, such as visible exhaust smoke and rotten egg smell. (And as i mentioned runs perfectly when stored inside)
      I checked the valve clearances and it was 0.05mm intake and 0.08mm on the exhaust.
      Something seems to be malfunctioning when it has been sitting in the cold weather.

      @@thatshot-ey8kh Scooters HATE the cold weather. Especially when it is carbureted and not fuel injected. Our dealership is in Florida and it is even a struggle here. They are going to be difficult to start in cold weather. Once you get it started, you want it to warm up for at least 5 - 10 minutes before riding. Once the motor is nice and warm, it will usually be fine. The carburetors have an automatic choke to help with this problem (which is why it starts off idling high). When the motor warms up, the automatic choke cuts off. Just sounds like your scooter (like most) is finicky with the cold weather.

After a minute or two, the idle plummets and the engine dies. It starts up again but not without throttle. The throttle is very hesitant and unresponsive, no matter how much i give it. It can drive for about a minute, until the bogging gets to the point where the engine just stalls regardless if i'm stationary or driving, or giving it throttle or not.
      I am certain that there is something wrong with it, because last year it would stay outside for eight hours while i'm at school in -5 degrees celsius compared to the 8 degrees now, but started and drove flawlessly back then.
      -it gets spark, fuel and air.

      -the problem only occurs after sitting outside for some time in the cold weather.

    I was having the problem of riding for 3-4 miles and then the moment i stop accelerating my scooter turns off. So i did what u recommended here and its working now, but could it be that now i have way too high idle ? My scooter sometimes starts moving with no acceleration and my fuel consumption went up like crazy? Could lowering help or you would recommend something else ?

    • @NewScooters4Less
      @NewScooters4Less  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Turning up the idle delivers more fuel to the engine to keep it running, so if it is turned up too much it will burn more fuel and it will start moving with no accelerator being turned. I would recommend turning it down. Sometimes you have to find that sweet spot between it being too low and dying out and being too high.

    Hey man, I just bought a 2016 piaggio fly and it’s fuel injected, it has a starting problem where if you start ot and leave it it is fine, if u start it and turn it of straight away it will not start and u have to leave it for about 40 minutes to try start it again or else it will just run the battery out by trying to start it too much, I have checked the spark plug, checked if fuel was going through, charged the battery and the other day I pulled up at a red light and it cut out on me I tried to start it and wouldn’t start, tried this morning it started first time... I’m so confused In what it is. john woo honestly man, I’m not going to be a lot of help here. Sounds like you have all of the requirements. When you say it ‘has gas’ does that mean that it just has gas in the tank or you know for a fact that gas is getting to the carburetor? How old is the fuel? If you have spark and compression, I’d replace the fuel / fuel system: new fuel, 93 octane minimum, replace fuel lines, fuel filter, and reclean the carb. Hope that helps.

    • @NewScooters4Less
      @NewScooters4Less  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scooters have an automatic choke that helps with this in those first few minutes, but I find them to be ineffective sometimes based on certain climates (how cold it is outside, etc.) I always think it's a good idea to let the scooter warm up for a couple minutes, but we live in Florida and when we go outside in summer, the scooter is already warmed up, lol. If your idle is too low and your scooter is dying every time you stop, turn it up a tad. Just don't turn it up too high.

    My Chinese scooter has had this problem before, was fixed by a mechanic but now doing it again. The mechanic said something about an air filter getting wet or blocked and you can tell when the engine sounds very quiet there’s an issue. It has had trouble starting too but strangely enough starts easier with the front brake pressed rather than the rear brake ?!

    • @NewScooters4Less
      @NewScooters4Less  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The brake thing is probably just a brake switch issue. If your carburetor is gunked up, fuel may be getting down into the air filter and soaking into the air filter which most certainly keep your scooter from starting. You would need to remove the air filters, clean it, let it dry out, clean the carb and put back together again.

    • @davidwil58

      New Scooters 4 Less thanks. It’s due a service soon anyway so I’ll let them take a look, he did attach an extension to the mudflap previously in order to stop so much water/gunk getting into the air filter so it could be connected to that. However temperamental it is to start, once I’ve ridden the 15miles to work if I turn off the engine then restart, it fires up just fine even with back brake depressed.
      Anyway I guess I’m doing ok from a budget Chinese scooter having done 15.000km in 18 months having never ridden before at the age of 43 :) ! Oh and not fallen off - yet !
