    THE JOURNEY
    Early in 2004, an opportunity presented itself that would forever change the direction of my life and the culture of an entire community. I would sit at a bus stop day after day trying to catch an RTS bus to campus and this bus would pass me by with the words FULL BUS displayed across the top ultimately leading to the creation of New Scooters 4 Less in March of 2004. 13 years later (now as sole owner), New Scooters 4 Less (NS4L) is one of the largest scooter dealerships in the United States and continues to break it's own records and the sales records for some of the top scooter distributors in the country. NS4L has provided jobs to tons of amazing people, reached millions of dollars in revenue, sold thousands of scooters, and has serviced thousands more. Read More... www.collinaustin.com/bio/

    Yes sir. It's a 150. I couldn't reach the screw,nor could I see if it was a torx, Phillips, or hex. So I took it to the local motorcycle shop in visalia ca. The guy said it was a 2.5mm hex. So he gave it a turn or two. Brought up the idle and away I went. (He didn't even charge me)
    I rode around town like i had been doing before. And after over an hour or so of riding in city traffic, making u turns and stopping at intersections.. The bike give me no more problems. 🤙🏾

    when the wheel spins on idle tho its not enough to move you but it does mean that the clutch is in contact with the bell and that means wear. what i do is I run the engine cold, and when the enricher stops, it drops in a very low rpm, that's when i adjust it low enough that it doesn't stall after the enricher turns off.

    Check the air filter also to make sure it's getting enough airflow? Then re-adjust the idle?

    • @NewScooters4Less
      @NewScooters4Less  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes you can have an air leak, vacuum leak, etc. Definitely make sure your airflow is good too. Then, yes. If all is good. Tune the idle.

    Hi man. This happened to me after i moded the petcock from vacuum to manual shut off valve. It runs a few meteres om throttle then on deceleration it stops like gas gor cut off. Does the mod affect idle or air fuel mix?

    • @NewScooters4Less
      @NewScooters4Less  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the vacuum line isn't there now, how is the system pulling fuel from your gas tank to the carburetor? I would bet YES... your modification affected it and I would change it back. Sorry!

    • @NewScooters4Less
      @NewScooters4Less  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @NewScooters4Less
      @NewScooters4Less  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! We do not, but is it shaking uncontrollably or just a little bit. Usually this is due to a bent steering column. Did you run into a curb somewhere? Does it turn side to side ok or is it sticky or tough to turn the steering column?

      Check your vacuum lines that run from the intake manifold to the fuel petcock and make sure there isn't a crack in them. Also make sure there isn't a crack in the intake manifold spacer that goes between the intake manifold and the head of the motor. Could be a crack somewhere.

    I was having the problem of riding for 3-4 miles and then the moment i stop accelerating my scooter turns off. So i did what u recommended here and its working now, but could it be that now i have way too high idle ? My scooter sometimes starts moving with no acceleration and my fuel consumption went up like crazy? Could lowering help or you would recommend something else ?

    • @NewScooters4Less
      @NewScooters4Less  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Turning up the idle delivers more fuel to the engine to keep it running, so if it is turned up too much it will burn more fuel and it will start moving with no accelerator being turned. I would recommend turning it down. Sometimes you have to find that sweet spot between it being too low and dying out and being too high.

    Fairly new apriliia storm scooter. Engines dies when throttle is pulled. But doesnot have any problem once it gets warmed up. Will this solve the issue. It happens everyday when trying to start the scooter.

    • @NewScooters4Less
      @NewScooters4Less  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check the fuel-air mixture. Some scooters have a screw to adjust. You may be able to adjust the needle in the carb or you may be able to adjust how much air is being sucked into the air filter. Sounds like an adjustment there will help.

  • @kristi8431
    @kristi8431 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    What's the ideal idle speed? Mine was 3000rpm warm and it seems to be a little fast. It kept feeling like it was gonna stall at stop lights (never did though). What rpms should I adjust it to? Thanks!

    • @NewScooters4Less
      @NewScooters4Less  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Can be different depending on scoot. For example, idle speed is specified at 1600 RPM +/- 100 RPM for a Wolf Islander. You might have a broken clutch that is dragging or your carburetor idle circuit is compromised. But also, you have to consider other factors like spark, valve lash, air cleaner, and overall state of the motor. Hope that helps some!

    • @kristi8431
      @kristi8431 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, it's an automatic so it's definitely not a broken clutch. I made an adjustment to the idle screw and it's running much better now. Idles at about 1800-2000. Thanks a lot!

    • @NewScooters4Less
      @NewScooters4Less  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's difficult to say what is going on because there could be several things... there could be a vacuum leak, there could be something going on with the carburetor, there could be something going on with the cylinder and piston itself, etc. As much as I wish I could tell you what the problem is, I wouldn't be able to properly diagnose it without having it in front of me. All I can say is to troubleshoot these things and start with the easiest first :/

    • @NewScooters4Less

      Yes. Please let it warm up. That will probably help a ton and help a ton more if you live in a colder climate. The scooters do have an automatic choke which helps, but it's still WAY better if you let it warm up. Thanks!

    • @NewScooters4Less
      @NewScooters4Less  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmmmm... maybe a vacuum / air problem. Check your vacuum lines to make sure they aren't getting pinched by a shock or something when you turn. Also make sure none of the lines are interfering with your throttle cable on your carburetor.

  • @bitsnbytesmungpoo
    @bitsnbytesmungpoo 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have an opposite case. The idle is slightly high and my scooter is pushing forward in idle. So I tried adjusting that screw by unscrewing it as far as it could. But that's not bringing down the rev. What's the problem?

    • @NewScooters4Less
      @NewScooters4Less  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Is your throttle cable too short? Did you recently replace that? You should be able to adjust the cable some too at the throttle handle and on the carb. It could be pulling to much on the carb (giving it too much gas)

  • @betsalelinbar1924
    @betsalelinbar1924 ปีที่แล้ว

    What would be the difference to tune the carb by this bolt and not the fuel bolt?
    I noticed my bikes is really hard to start on cold and shuts off at stops from times to times although the idle speed is strong and stable since i tuned my carb.
    on cold starts it starts usually with the help of turning slightly the handle about 1/8, so perhaps this bolt will do the job

    • @NewScooters4Less

    So I have a TaoTao Quantum 150 that has a bunch of mods done too it like a big bore kit, different exhaust, carb with a 30 mm intake that has been re jetted and nibbi extension with a UNI air filter on it.
    The bike runs great on the kickstand and transitions fine and has a good idle too it. Top speed is great and has no problems at all. It actually runs good for a few miles than it's starts this issue. The problem is when u get down to about the 15 mph or so the bike shuts itself off and dies out. You CAN restart the scoot bike right away.
    It does have a fuel filter up by the tank itself(stock location)and I added one on the main fuel line going to the carb too, both look good.
    Things I have done already are:
    1. Drilled a hole in the gas cap already to prevent vapor lock, since I had this problem when I first got the scoot
    2. Checked the valve clearance are both set too .004
    3 Zip tied the vent hose off of the vapor canister off and deleted the EGR from the head too
    4 I also have played with the float bowl level in the carb and ended up putting it back in the original spot I found it in....
    5. Checked the idle numerous times
    Anybody have any idea what could be going on or what a remedy for me would be?

    My issue: Where you have it on the center stand it idles fine, but the back wheel is moving. When I hit the rear brake, then it dies out. It's like the power from the motor never disengages from the back wheel. Thoughts?

    • @NewScooters4Less
      @NewScooters4Less  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is your concern that the back wheel is moving when it is on the center stand? (As long as the scooter doesn't feel like it is pushing you when it is on the ground,) it's ok for the back wheel to move a little bit when on the center stand because when it is on the ground, it won't. Does that make sense? (Think about it like a car... When you take your foot off the brake in a car and it is in Drive, it wants to creep forward. Your foot on the brake is keeping it from moving forward. It's similar with a scooter... when your scooter is off the center stand and on the ground, the brake and your body weight keep the scooter from moving forward (unless of course the idle is too too high and the scooter feels like it is pushing your forward when idling)). Hope that helps!

      This seems like it is fuel/carburetor related more than likely. What kind of fuel are you running in it? When was the last time you had the carburetor tuned up. Seems like maybe the jet in the carb is gunked up causing this issue. A good cleanout on the carburetor would more than likely resolve this.

      @@NewScooters4Less thanks for responding! We have been using regular 89 octane gas in it. A few days ago my hubby cleaned the jets on the carburetor, put a new battery in (not sure if this was the problem but it needed a new battery anyway), and today we put 91 octane gas in. Once we get it warmed up, it seems to run pretty good. However, I watched the carburetor + throttle cable when I was warming it up today, and there is one part that occasionally sticks when I apply throttle. Sorry I dont know part names, but it is next to the throttle cable, it is a small metal tab with a spring-like pump under it that was not springing back into position when I let off the throttle.

      Scooters have an automatic choke that helps with this in those first few minutes, but I find them to be ineffective sometimes based on certain climates (how cold it is outside, etc.) I always think it's a good idea to let the scooter warm up for a couple minutes, but we live in Florida and when we go outside in summer, the scooter is already warmed up, lol. Depending on what kind of scooter it is, it probably has an electric choke attached to the carburetor and that is why it slows down after it has been running. Is it only doing the little 'misfire' after you first start it? May want to give the scoot a couple minutes to warm up. If it is misfiring while all the time, then you could have a spark plug issue, but it could be a few different things. I'm not sure where you live, but maybe just let the scooter warm up for a few minutes before going and see if that helps.

      The screw on the side (depending on the type of scooter) is usually a fuel / air mixture adjustment. I have a similar issue except that the idle on my scooter increases after lowering it . I’ll lower the idle so that the scooter doesn’t pull forward but once I give it throttle the idle revs higher and stays there along with the back wheel constantly turning. I have to constantly adjust the idle lower and it’s super annoying. Any suggestions as to what to do or how to fix it? What could be the cause? Thanks!

      Also after I stop giving it throttle it stays at an higher idle than before.

      @@jarodhuber2687 The throttle isn't getting stuck open some how, right? Also, check the vacuum lines, intake manifold, and intake manifold spacer (between the manifold and engine) for cracks. If they are all fine, I'd swap the carburetor and see if that solves the problem. (It's hard for me without having the unit in front of me, so I hope this helps!)

    Is it bad for the engine to run high idle for too long or all day

      I would definitely adjust it, otherwise you are unnecessarily going to be burning more fuel.
