I’d say Sasha Grey is a better example because practically all of Traci Lords’ sex work was done when she was underage making it illegal to view and distribute. She didn’t have to deal with people having access to her videos while attempting to make a legit turn to film.
Debicki does the same thing to me. I feel like it's in the eyes, they're like a liminal space I could stay in forever. This move was also the biggest waste of Bobby Cannavale ever. He's a really great actor and they gave him nothing to work with.
In Halsey I heard a little bit of south shore Nassau County, Long Island, NY. maybe she was channeling Amy Fisher, who went from attempting murder at 17 to porn actress…
maxxxine was so bad and weak. They totally ruined her character, she was so harsh in the movie and boring i didnt even cared about her. SHE also dont give a fck when her college's went missing????like there was not a single emotion.. Pus the third act was absolutely badddddd. and AND THE OFFSCREEN DEATHS????xddd seriously i rather watch jaws 3d again than this
Dude, I agree with your take 100%! I enjoyed Maxxxine quite a bit, but your proposed plotline is perfect. Definitely would have made the movie so much better!
The Halsey accent is very Worcester, Massachusetts. Not Bostonian, but definitely that working class Massachusetts/Rhode Island/NY vibe. Or just doing Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors
I remember a few adult film stars in bigger movies. Jenna Jameson, Traci Lourdes and Ron Jeremy played himself in a few. I went to see Crybaby in the theaters, and I remember thinking it was so great to see Traci Lourdes. She was such a savvy business person and very successful in the 90s. There is a rumor that Joan Crawford made some films too, and she was a superb actress. I'm all for it, but not Ron Jeremy.

Your take is interesting. I think the use of the Nightstalker’s name has everyone thinking it should be this Quentin Tarantino like experience where they reimagine history for the sake of a story. Which is problematic, he’s not a fictional character but an actual killer who ruined people’s lives. Rather than a true mislead that gives further characterization of Maxine. Her tenacity, stoicism, self-preservation tendencies. For me, Maxine is not a blood thirsty psychopath looking for revenge/to avenge, but a deeply troubled woman pushed to the edge in the way that she supports herself and an unknown threat that seems intent on destroying the budding life she thinks she deserves. I know this is a horror/scary but instead of a straightforward this woman is crazy, the story is the haunting of Maxine with her own life and how she overcomes ruthless ways.
I agree. The more I think about it the more I’m actually ok with Maxine’s arc, going through all that she did just to make her dream come true. Loved her arc. But I really didn’t like her father being the villain and everything that happened from there on out. Acting was great, but something about the actual story just doesn’t translate to me
I found out about that after watching this and I was shocked (though her last name made a lot of sense for obvious reasons lol). I read into it and turns out she lost her accent completely after moving to the US at a very early age. Her Yorkshire accent is still pretty terrible though 😅
I blame Halsey's terrible accent for making me realize that Mia's isn't as great as I initially felt it was. Rewatched Pearl to confirm...it drops in and out and/or she speaks painfully slowly to ensure it comes out correctly... I'm bummed because if I never watched Maxxine (and fell asleep with 40 minutes left) I never would have realized that Pearl/Mia Goth aren't perfection... This last movie might have ruined the whole thing for me... It should be noted that I didn't love X ..UNTIL.. Pearl came out and made it make sense ..

All I thought when this movie was over was, AHS: 1984 did it better. AHS:1984 rarely had a dull moment.
