I always have a soft spot and love the thunderous roar of the HST than the newer Voyager, whether it is a Great Western, Virgin, GNER, Midland Mainline or Grand Central. At least you can get fresh air by lowering the door windows, that you can't on a Voyager.
Voyagers have been substituted by HSTs before, even XC 170s have appeared at Piccadilly at a few points. Bet this raised some heads at Stafford, Stockport and especially Piccadilly.
Thanks for doing a shot of Coach A on these 👍 - I'm booked into Coach A on the 11:17 from Birmingham New Street to Bristol Temple Meads (first trip in First Class in a XC HST this will be If not replaced by a Voyager). Unfortunately, the seat facing the most towards the power car end in Coach A (number A40) was booked (so was the opposite one, fair enough) so I clicked on A04 - the window seat with a table and no seats opposite! I see people's point about the age of the HST's but there's no reason why XC can't get more in the future. I much prefer them over the Voyagers (as nice as these are in their own way). Plus I much prefer standing next to one at Birmingham New Street - less noise for a start (handy when you're talking to a member of staff, especially for good reason), plus you've not got fumes right next you! I've seen some older TH-cam of former Virgin XC HST's - one thing these had which the XC Voyagers have lacked for a few years now is a Quiet Coach!
I was sitting in the seat in front of you! The lady a couple of rows down was having a right moan about some diversions, then got upset when she was told that there was no complimentary alcohol
Cpr1234 I wish I was there (Manchester is the closest train station to me) (well busiest the woodhead line (hadfield to Manchester via glossop) is closest to me)
Further to my comments, I may end up going First Class to Edinburgh (Standard Class to Oxford to Birmingham New Street then First Class on a XC HST on the 16:03 from there to Edinburgh) but on a Sunday in hopefully April next year. I'd do Advance Singles. At '2:00' in the video, the table seat in front of you on the left (number 40) opposite the luggage rack at the power car end is my first choice of seat subject to it being available. If I do First Class to Edinburgh then at least if it's a Voyager, I'll still hopefully get there around 9pm - plus they're still comfortable in First Class anyway. Also, either way, I'll have achieved what I've wanted to do which is arrive in Scotland for the first time by train :-)! I think a phrase is if you want the best outcome, sometimes you have to take a risk. I may end up changing my mind again and going Standard on a day, with an Off-Peak Return, on a day where the 16:03 and 17:03 on a weekday from Birmingham New Street to Edinburgh are both formed of an HST.
Scarp all voyagers and replace then with refurbished HST’s. Loads of HST’s are going off lease and likely to be scrapped. Don’t scrap them! Scrap the shite voyagers instead.
Absolutely agree.4 or 5 car voyagers are a joke in 2018 for the increase in passenger numbers since Arriva took over from Virgin over a decade ago.Refurbished as per Scotrail specification and they wold last at least another decade. No noisy vibrating underfloor engines either.I am convinced passengers would love them.
It's a shame about Voyagers since they're basically a very good train regarding crash safety, acceleration (750 HP per car) and braking. If only they sorted the stinky toilets issue and lowered the seat backs a little to improve visibility. I went on one only a few days ago (Basingstoke to Reading) and noticed they now have a powerful perfume pumped into the vestibules to mask the stink. btw on the return journey I saw an HST at Reading whose destination was Weston-super-Mare so perhaps HSTs are still routinely used on that route (probably wishful thinking).
Rumour has it the guard on this train was a legend. I should know, it was me 🤣
I recently went on a GWR Hitachi replacement for the HST and hated it. Lacks the finesse and comfort of the HST.

LNER not GNER
@@gamingwithscott9295and EMT/EMR instead of MML.
(At the time that comment was made I think it was still EMT)
Great to see you on my local part of the WCML mate!
Superb video, I would love to see one of those at Piccadilly.
*Great video. Thank you from Vietnam*

The thumbnail is a stunning shot with the HST with the Pendo
Looking at the thumbnail, the HST has aged far better than the Pendolino.
Great to see the HSTs in their old stomping ground!
Great footage as always, mate 👍❤️
Very good video. Thanks
Awesome ! Thank you for sharing !!! :):):)

The 11:17 I'm due to catch on Monday 18th February in 3 weeks time if all is well :-) .

Me when I'm on an HST it's head window surfing. Although they don't like it much in LNER. What's the difference between First and Standard on XC ones?
That’s interesting we don’t normally see the hst in cross country livery go to Manchester it’s Edinburgh Waverley that has cross country hsts
I’ve been on the hunt for these for atleast 5 months now, how often would they run, and on what days?
Bet that turned a few heads at some stations. Birmingham New Street is the closest I can get to seeing a regular in service HST!
Cpr1234 hello

Swear cross coutry voyagers havent been refurbd since they inherrited them? apart from the first class bits?
Very nice video! Do you have any plans to film more train cab ride videos ? I remain, sincerely yours, Dana.
I mean 'Standard from Oxford to Birmingham New Street', not to Oxford to Birmingham New Street, sorry.
Super film!
Awesome video!! I could see the HST was going faster than the typical 110mph line speed for non-tilting trains. Did the HST do 125 on the WCML?

I wish they ran HSTs to Manchester even if it was just twice a day say Penzance to Manchester and Manchester to Plymouth
Awesome!
tamworth is the closest to me where I can see xc hst's
Ill miss the hsts
HST is in Scotland now!
Where did this train start?
Likely Bristol or Plymouth.
Man, that pendolinho in the thumbnail looks a bit old now.
I went to Doncaster and saw the flying Scotsman

Voyagers would be useful on TPE
i was on that HST
At the start did anyone hear a 323
too much noise, mate
The hst is boring
why
Yes - why?
