I was in an accident when i was in Kindergarten ended up with 5 stitches in the top of my skull.. That day my dad stopped on the way home and we picked up Super Mario 3. To this day it will always hold a special place in my heart. I actually have put together a fully complete in box copy and have it in a shadow box in my living room.

Shenmue is so immersive that I literally feel like I can start playing it at any time any day.
I used to think my favorite game of all the was KOTOR but after years of beating it regularly I kind of never wanna play KOTOR again but I could start Shenmue 1 or 2 for a hundredth time right now.

    • @bmshaven
      @bmshaven 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Shenmue was so damn immersive when I played it back in the day; however, it has not aged well at all across the board. It's sad as I remember really being into the game and playing it several hours at a time. It's probably one of the best games of all time that is the hardest to get into now.

@@patrickrutherford5553 For me part 2 is the holy grail. However I think whichever game you first played back in the day would be your holy grail. I never owned a Dreamcast, never heard of Shenmue and just randomly got Shenmue 2 when I was 9 yrs old for my Xbox. Not to sound hyperbolic but that shit seriously changed my life lol

I remember reading about Shenmue in magazines in the year 2000 when I was 11. I really wanted to play it but my parents were never going to buy me a dreamcast. Many years passed but I always regretted not getting to play Shenmue. Finally the remastered version came out, and I dove right in. I played through Shenmue I and II and loved them both. After that, I didn’t really have to wait long for Shemue III at all! XD got it right away and enjoyed that one too. Now I’m a commited Shenmue fan, lets hope Shenmue IV doesn’t take too long.

  • @krystianhinz4575

Just want to thank you John for getting me into Shenmue during this whole quarantine. Initially I was reluctant to play them as I had heard about the ending of Shenmue III from another channel but when I saw your Shenmue rocks video I took a chance and I bought the HD port collection. I played both games back to back over the course of 9 days which I've never done with any series but I did with Shenmue because of how immersive and interesting the games were and now after about a 2 month break I'm playing Shenmue III and loving It! Thanks again for inspiring me with your passion for the series!

For me basically everything Sega did especially with the Naomi/Dreamcast era. Crazy Taxi is one I have very fond memories of and people don't really talk about that game enough. My friends and I use to try our hardest to beat each others scores, learn the best routes, and how to be the craziest drivers we could. PSO was another one I spend a ton of time with (even after official servers shut down). PSO was the first time I ever enjoyed playing a game online and interacting with other people and the level grinding and hunting for rare items and raising mags was all just so addictive.

This is a great vid. A 10/10 game is really a personal choice. A really bad game might be a 10/10 game for someone else because of what it meant for that person at the time they were playing it to escape or enter a different world. Nostalgia definitely makes a difference on a personal level. Be it the game that they remember helped to get them over a personal loss, a bad breakup, or get away of real world problems. Keep these great vids coming Johnny!

We like the same games, I went from mega man legends on ps1 and the jump to Dreamcast was pretty mind blowing at the time. I was only a kid when I saw it in the year 2000, even at my age I knew it was a masterpiece. Congrats on having a daughter! I wouldn’t know where to start in raising a child lol but I can tell you and Kim will be great parents! You also have a lot of great friends to help you out if you need it, keep on being happy because your helping us all out by spreading the positive vibes! Also, Keep on gaming😎👍

Link's Awakening DX is my favorite Zelda game. It's amazing how much the game does with so little and how touching it manages to be. Haven't played the remake.

Lots of levels, each level almost had it's own gimmick and there was even some puzzle solving, great way to get items on the map while keeping it challenging, lots of cool secrets, warping, 2 player vs so it doesn't get boring if the other player keeps finishing levels...

I still have yet to play shenmue. Your enthusiasm for the game alone makes me want to play it, Johnny. But a 10/10 for me, which is probably a 10/10 for most is Castlevania SOTN. I have such great memories. Played it so much that my original copy stopped working, and it wasn’t until I bought a Konami classics collection for the 360 that I was able to play it again. And that was many years later. It was a trip down memory lane.

So many games that affected me in my childhood would be 10/10, but of course personal 10 out of 10s. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, Sakura Wars, Streets of Rage 2, Sonic Adventure, Ms. Pac-Man, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, and so many more. There are countless games that really defined my life and I am so glad I could play them. The beautiful thing is that 10/10 games are still coming out!

But the recent gundam vs extreme maxi boost on on ps4 is a classic. Also federation vs zeon made me love gundam to the point i became a mega fan.

Super Metroid had the most impact on me,outside of RPGs,but it also left me having nightmares for a long time,so i find it polarizing. I will however, mention Lufia II as one game that is not as well known, but left its own mark on me.Definitely a favorite with its unique puzzles, antagonists, music and characters. It has a story that feels home-like,comfortable yet epic to me.

I gotta pick up that Dragon Quest 8. I played Dragon Warrior but I didn't really get into this series until Dragon Quest 11. Now I want to go back and beat the old ones thanks to the 2D Tickington levels. Man, what a game. That whole grinding feature is definitely a thing in Dragon Quest 11, too. You go to continue your quest and get curb stomped and spend your time killing random monsters until you stop getting your butt kicked. Most people would find that so frustrating but I find it very relaxing. I guess I have a positive attitude when it comes to grinding, and I think it comes from playing so much Phantasy Star as a kid.

DQ 8 is the pinnacle for sure. The monster arena and alchemy pot were great. 11 was good, but I felt like I was just kinda sleepwalking through it.

I watched because I saw original Phantasy Star at the start, but it wasn't covered. There are so few who remember that title on the Sega master system. The Game Boy Advance compilation, after Phantasy Star Online, was the first time some people saw it.
