- Bowers & Wilkins presents their most compact headed model, one that brings all the technical advantages of a dedicated midrange enclosure - the Turbine™ Head, with its decoupled midrange cone - to a smaller footprint that’s easily accommodated in any home. 803 D4 may be notably more compact than the 801 D4 or 802 D4, but it still bristles with technical innovation, most obviously in its use of a three-box construction. Its 130mm (5-in) midrange cone is carefully isolated from the impact of its bass cones thanks to its Turbine Head enclosure.

Ok so I currently own a pair of B&W 704s2 paired with the Yamaha A-S801 and I do enjoy these very much. I also paired it with a Sonus Faber Gravis II subwoofer and this combo and set up is quite awesome for my entry level into B&W and HI- Fi. Now I have my sight set on the next upgrade to the 702s3 and Rotel Interative AMP Then in a bigger dream these 803D4's . I like the craftmanship, art and performance of these.
Still lovin my B&W 803 Ds circa 2003. $8k was pretty steep then, but after having lost everything, they were my go-to speakers when putting together an entirely new 2-channel stereo hifi component system.
B&W 😍
I have the 802d3 prestige Towers and they look a lot better than the rosewood finish which needs a better glossy finish. They have to be paired with a really powerful amplifier so I decided on the MC 901 which is used to biamp, now the speakers sound extremely nice. The mid and tweeter definitely benefit from tubes and more power.
Thank you I Am, and yes - sometimes folks underestimate how much a really good set of electronics can improve the sound with an excellent speaker
805 d4 for me. I run my system in a 4.2 configuration blended with 2 asw 500 subs and surrounds a pair of 705 s2. I have a pair of 805 D3 as well but opted not to add them as back surrounds because I found doing so reintroduces the harshness of that line. I would t do that for the sake of running all diamonds. Silly. So I tested both as surrounds and I found the 705 s2 a much better blend for the 805 D4 fronts. Smooth cohesive handoff of the sound for the room. Really does sound as your in the room with the performance. To give you an idea of the spl timing and placement constraints 13 x 13 room by 8 ceiling
Makes sense, you really don't want your surrounds competing with your mains too hard.
I have the 804 D3.
That's one fine speaker Kevin, enjoy!
Best B&W I've owned? The 804D3. BTW, that "rosewood" with black turbine head? P.U. MAYBE high gloss would mitigate its ugliness. BTW-2, B&W going a little crazy with the pricing. Don't you think?
Thanks Kenton for your comments
Hello! Would you pair these with the michi x3? Or do you think that it would not have enough juice for them. And how about the 804 d4s with the X3? Thanks!
Go with an X5 and you won't be wanting for almost anything.
Let me ask you a question do you notice any differences sonically with the grills on or off? Do you notice any negative impacts from the covers?
The grilles are entirely transparent. I hear no difference that I can perceive.
The best I've owned is the only one I've owned, the CM5. HAHA.
