Thanks sblg43! Got a used mower and someone had mutilated the governor springs and tabs. Although my engine is a 10J902 it is similar enough that I can get it back together correctly thanks to your video. In case someone needs these numbers, the large spring is B&S #691297 and the small spring is B&S #691859.

Just rebuilt and cleaned the carburetor and forgot how the spring linked up, but now I see I didn't have the little shorter spring in the back. So off to buy one. Great video!

I had pulled the carb/tank assembly off my old lawn mower to try and repair a year or two ago and had put it up and bought a new lawn mower. I used a couple of good TH-cam videos to rebuild/clean carburetor and replace the fuel manifold pipe. I put it back together and started, but only got a lower RPM out of the engine..... until I found your video.... I felt like a Homer Simpson with a "DOH" moment!! After reversing the linkage I restarted and the mower runs like a champ!
THANKS for taking the time to keep us Homer Simpsons on the right track!

I'm having so many problems with my engine running correctly, I'm convinced it's down to the spring setup as i can get it to rev correctly if i pull on the large spring. I didn't know you can bend that plate where the smaller spring is, that could be something I will try thanks.

3200 should be the max no load rpm. It gives the engine wiggle room when you're under load. You make that small engine 3600 no load then you're going to be borderline 4k rpms under loads and wear the engine down quick

If anyone has this engine and it surges and wont run smooth and right, especially if a new gasket set has been put on , these plastic carburetors warp on the engine side mounting surface and either have to be replaced or you can sand that mounting side down as flat as possible and add SEAL ALL Sealant or a PERMATEX gas resistant sealant to the machined surfaces when putting a new gasket on and a tiny smear on the gaskets also. SEAL ALL sealant >>(resistant to gasoline, oil, paint thinner, and most solvents. Seal-All is also water resistant immediately upon application
Sets in 2-3 minutes. Fully cures in 2-6 hours) The gaskets can be bought at most major car parts stores--eBay also for under $5

I didn't take a photo of it before I started to clean and in the process zapped it with about 130psi to clear the crap out which is when I reckon it came adrift.

I have two of the same engines that I put on my grandfathers old flip handle 19 inch sensation mowers. You can’t have a cable throttle set up on the handle because then you can’t flip them. The linkage looks like a lever for direct throttle control but it’s loose and doesn’t maintain constant throttle. Is there a way to stiffen or tighten it? I remember as a kid the original engines had direct throttle levers on the carb.

I have the opposite problem. Mine barely has any balls. I have to dive into this and get it setup like his. He mentioned that tab being bent, maybe yours is bent to far forward?

First of all, what is "wide open"? I usually set these at approximately 2900-3000 rpm. The springs are hooked onto metal tabs. If you need to decrease or increase the speed, you can bend those tabs in or out accordingly. Hope that helps.

@@RealManSkills wide open is Alabama talk for “very fast”. I will try bending. Thanks sir, all suggestions are appreciated.

My engine doesn't have the little tab the metal part with the loop hooks into. Either that or something happened to it when I took the top off

Thanks really helpful skills I got there. First one of that info with the springs. Where can you get a manual of this mashine or lawnmover?

    • @RealManSkills
      @RealManSkills  2 ปีที่แล้ว

The mower might have an "owner's manual" or "user's manual" available from the manufacturer. A "Service manual" for the Briggs and Stratton engine could be found at numerous places online.

It's part number "Briggs & Stratton 690347". Search the interweb for the best price. Many places to choose from. Thanks for watching.

Hey thanks so much for the great video! I just had one question for you, i know this may sound stupid but for some reason i havent been finding any luck finding the linkage where the governor and idler spring is in one package, i saw them a while back probably about a year ago, but i just wondered if there was a certain website that would sell the governor and idler spring for an affordable price. Again thanks for this video & god bless!

I buy my parts from a variety of online sources. It all depends on cost and shipping. partstree.com has great diagrams but not necessarily cheap. I get the part numbers from their diagrams and hunt around for the best price. ebay, amazon, etc... But sometimes it's easier to go to my local small engine repair shop - and sometimes he's better than the internet prices. Thanks for watching.

On the part that you said that they had backwards with the loop part facing forward instead of backwards? Lol that wouldnt be the case. If you turned the loop around so that the hooks on each end were in the opposite accelerator piece? The loop wouldn't be where you said it was, it would be hidden under the covers in back of the engine. The rod that the loop is on is different lengths from the loop. The only way for that loop to be effective and operate the throttle and choke mechanisms? Is for it to be in the front like you have it with the shorter end of the rod connected to the front adjuster. There is no way to see that the loop is facing forward. It wouldn't be visible in that position.

I couldn't tell you off hand. I usually find parts numbers at www.partstree.com. Then when I find the part number, I shop around the internet to find the best deal with shipping.
