    Thank you for a very well done and informative video. Now I will go change the oil on our C-Max :)

      It’s always satisfying doing your own maintenance. The best thing about changing your own oil is you can buy better oil and it will cost the same as those quick lube places that give you cheap oil.

    When you check your oil level on the dipstick, don’t hold it up right, the oil is going to slowly move down while you’re trying to read it. Hold it downwards the same way you pulled it out when you read it

    Nice solid video.
    I do mine on ramps but both work well. I purchased more rubber grommets ( orange ones) as my first oil
    change they stripped out with the torx removal. If you are desperate a bit of tape on the screws will spread
    the grommet out and hold the cover until you buy more. My dealer did not have them but eBay did.
    Great little cars- I have a 2016, Thanks!

    Thanks for the video, gave me the motivation. I didn't have a wrench, must have, ratchet will not fit. My drain pan not as wide as yours. Horizontal drain plug shoots oil out over a foot, missed the pan.

      King Kong yeah I had to force that weird metal beam and the engine itself wiggled enough where you can get the bolt loose, and then wedge the socket back off and remove by hand. Maybe my socket is shorter which helped?

    I bought a used 2013 CMax Hybrid SEL (No plug-In) in 2021.
    So far it is only getting 29 to 33 MPG overall.
    New plugs, New oil, New air filter, Good tires, Average miles.
    The gas engine kicks in a lot more than I thought it would below 40 MPH and I don't push it hard to go or stop. Last owner bought it new and was a little old lady. It seems to be in great condition and I like the car and how it drives except for the way it brakes it takes getting used to and the MS Sync / radio system had to be rebooted by pulling a fuse as it had stopped working. She even wrote a note about this problem in the owners manual.
    Any suggestions as to how I can get my MPG up ? I tried premium gas and fuel injector cleaner all ready with minimal results.
    All in all I am content with MPG as my 2012 4x4 Jeep only averages around 12 to 14 MPG.

    • @EverydayCars
      @EverydayCars  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don’t waste your money on premium gas. I would put the left screen in empower mode. Then you can see when it’s in EV. It shows a bar and as long as you keep the throttle below the bar it will stay in EV. Go past it and the gas engine kicks on. That and anticipate stops and coast as much as possible. In colder weather it only gets about 35mpg. In warm weather usually 40 to 50 depending on speed.

      @@EverydayCars I don't know I used to do a lot of the maintenance on my older Buicks, and even my Kia Sorento. This CMAX is a whole new ball game! You made it look so easy though I will try it on my own when it gets cooler. I am in Texas! My car is usually super quiet but recently started making a louder noise when I hit the gas... don't know if that makes any sense. It has 135k on it I have been faithful with the regular maintenance. Have you experienced any issues with the cd player or the back up camera? My CD player gets so hot that I just stopped using it, it is not a big deal just wondering if maybe there should be a recall on that whole system, the back up camera sometimes gets stuck in back up mode. LOL it can be weird trying to drive that way :) I love the car overall and the mileage and space in it is wonderful! THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!!!!!

      My Positive Water Cheryl Myers Glass water bottles Have you ever flushed the transmission fluid? That can be the noise maybe or a wheel bearing? The CD. Player I don’t use so I haven’t had that issue. And I haven’t had a backup camera issue either.

    It's easy to start the engine - just put foot on brake, start car - take foot off brake and apply throttle while car is in park, no need to shift to drive. Alternatively hit the MAX DEFROST - this starts the engine to run heater on full blast.

    Does the oil drain plug not have a small rubber gasket? Should I get one if it doesn't? I think it would make a better seal but maybe if it doesn't come with one it's not needed.

    • @jimlcher8201
      @jimlcher8201 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does not. Very few engines do. Not needed. I clean the flat part of the drain bolt (of all my engines) and put some non-hardening gasket sealer on it. I let that dry a bit before putting it back on the engine.

      roadstarS07 No problems so far. How many miles on the 2013? They had a bearing issues in the transmission on the 2013's. Might want to look into that. But we average 48mpg in the summer months.

      Tim D 4) Your vehicle’s unique hybrid / electric components are covered during
      the Hybrid / Electric Unique Component Coverage, which lasts for eight
      years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

      The 2013 hybrid has a 8 yr 100,000 mile warranty on that cvt. So if the car makes a loud whine and weird electricy grumble when turning on the car and the gas engine kicks on, it's likely the cvt going bad. If you buy it or "get" the odometer with under the 100,000 miles , ford replaces the cvt for free.

    Скажи, какое масло и фильтр использовал, марка и фирма?

  • @expert69able
    @expert69able 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you really need to fill filter with an oil? Because I heard it's unnecessary and maybe even wrong because of air plugs when engine starts.

    • @EverydayCars
      @EverydayCars  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you don’t fill it than the oil will have to fill the filter when the car is started. That would be a bigger air pocket. But honestly I don’t think there is much harm if you don’t fill it. It’s just one of those things that gives me piece of mind.

  • @lancer.5603

    What is the ft-lb torque spec for the drain plug?
    What is the mileage interval you change the oil?

    • @EverydayCars
      @EverydayCars  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      20 ft lbs, and I would change about every 7000 miles since you are running in electric mode at times.

    • @JustonJacksin

    Ummm I think you’re supposed to use new oil to lubricate the new filter before installation. You don’t want anything to do with the old oil once you’ve removed it....

    • @EverydayCars
      @EverydayCars  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes new oil would be a lot better to use.

    • @joshua.harazin
      @joshua.harazin 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The amount of that oil that *could* make its way into the new oil is completely negligible. There's more old oil clinging to the dipstick than there is on that filter seal.

    • @skunkhollow1
      @skunkhollow1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@joshua.harazin agreed! I don't know why people freak out about using the old oil as a lubricant for a single use O-ring. Its pretty funny to me, lmao.

  • @jimlcher8201
    @jimlcher8201 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Torx 30 and 15mm wrench are NOT the only tools - you also need an oil filter wrench. And, you get a lot more leverage w/ a strap wrench when the ratchet handle is pointing AWAY from the filter (not toward the center of the filter). I wish you would have told what size socket-wrench the filter takes.

  • @bws258

  • @felix2b5

    So if you change the oil before the change oil message comes on then there would be no reason to reset it .

    • @EverydayCars
      @EverydayCars  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You still need to reset it so the computer knows it's fresh oil and starts at 100%. Say if it's down to 30% and then you change the oil it will tell you you need to change the oil in less than 3000 miles.
