      It can be a pain to repair PC notebooks, too. Sorin from the "Electronics Repair School" channel repairs more of the PC stuff, and after watching a few videos, it's apparent how a lack of parts, schematics, spill proof keyboards & chassis, and standardization of designs & components makes PC notebooks harder & costlier to fix; which reduces how cheaply & quickly it is for end users to get back to work in the event of faults, spills, and damage.

    • @electronJarvs
      @electronJarvs 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its not always just water though and even water contains more than just water unless its distilled. So when the water evaporates it leaves behind salts and also chlorine in the water is going to corrode things pretty fast which most water supply's contain. Also when power is applied while still wet or moist electrolysis will happen and corrode things fast also.

    Hey, if I have an old mid 2009 macbook pro that after riding my bike home stopped working could it be fixed for a decent price or is it just toast. Some context, I believe it probably had some logicboard flex which busted some kind of component off the board, and now when you plug the charger on it only goes light green (not fully on). I had no data loss, as I was able to swap the drive into an old macbook of the same vintage with no issues. I was just hoping to get it back up and running, as it is a much "better" machine. I have seen a few of your videos, and was thinking maybe self leveling concrete could fix my issue, but it seems like you guys are really against that for any repairs. Could you explain?

    • @nothin1456
      @nothin1456 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Richard Westmacott not with a good amount of heat and flux .. but it can bridge if you are not amazing at soldering haha.

    • @marscruz
      @marscruz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that's why you see Louis run the soldering tip down the legs after placing the chip. The solder blob on the hot tip picks up the extra solder and makes a really good clean connection. The excessive flux really helps this process. The final solder should be bright and shiny even after cooling. If it's dull it's not correct.

    what did you put on the connector after you got the smoke?

    • @nothin1456
      @nothin1456 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      dindog22 q tip. The connector of the mac magsafe design makes plugging in the socket outside of the case kind of dangerous.. and the positive and the negatives can touch each other effectively bridging the psu mains. But really its not a big deal and the overvoltage just carodes the tip a bit. Just clean it off and you are usually fine :)

      Alexander Herberstein start with lower heat and start high away from the chip .. keep slowly moving towards what you are working on to see what it will do.. of course use a small amount of flux to keep things sticky to the board area :)

      It may be worth searching Louis' older videos where he talks about "solutions" based billing as opposed to time based billing. It's not just the time; it's also the skill, tools, processes, methodology - and also what the customer needs, and what they are willing to pay for - to consider.

    • @seeibe
      @seeibe 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If he can't fix the board he doesn't charge. If the customer comes in later with a different problem and claims Louis is responsible he may have to fix it free of charge. This board he probably turns a good profit on whereas for other boards he loses money. If he was too expensive do you think he'd be working overtime just to keep his business going?

    • @marscruz
      @marscruz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but I've had some electronics in college and worked on other electronic devices. This stuff is not really beginner level stuff unless you are really sharp and pick up on tech things very quickly. Ohms Law is the base. Resistors, capacitors, diodes, inductors are "passive components"... you have to know what their function is. Transistors and other "active components" are more complicated. I'm sure you can find intro info on TH-cam but Louis doesn't have time to go back to elementary school. He assumes that you have some basic electronics knowledge. If you don't then you won't understand what the heck he is talking about. It's like talking about Trigonometry to a 3rd grader.

    • @nabilandadamslaboratory3422
      @nabilandadamslaboratory3422 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marscruz I'm an electronic engineering student. He says the name of things to sound smart. He doesn't use any theory or Ohm's law or any theory for that matter. He just narrated what he's doing with 0 context to the viewer; he might aswell talk to himself.

    • @marscruz
      @marscruz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nabilandadamslaboratory3422 He doesn't use Ohm's Law because he already understands it. He has explained circuit functions and voltage dividers and the implied use of Ohm's Law without going into details. You already have to have this base level and if you don't then you need to get it elsewhere. Louis is not beginner friendly. He is the advanced level tutor and mentor. If you don't have the prerequisites then can't sign up for the grad level stuff. Keep studying and come back when you get your base levels up to snuff.
