  • Welcome! I am so grateful for your being here! This is just a quick little tutorial on the radial swipe using the bloom technique and paints. I was so excited with the dried results and so much interest in this that I had to get this little video up fast. I'm using my translucent pillow which is just Glidden Premium base 3 untinted mixed with American Floetrol to increase translucency and matte gel to give back some thickness and volume to the pillow with is essential for holding up your bloom paints and cell activator. My bloom paints in this swipe are This Little Piggy horizon and persephone then Amsterdam azo yellow with a tiny bloop of napthal red. Over top is diox purple then pthalo blue with a little prussian blue to deepen the shade. Im using amsterdam titanium white with Australian Floetrol for my cell activator on the back of a medium palette knife. Watch carefully how I begin the swipe making sure to capture the entire color puddle and move it gently outward in one smooth, even swipe. With the translucent pillow, it's most important to remember that you must spin on as much pillow as possible to leave only a thin layer on the surface. That being said, make sure your initial swipe is tight with very well formed cells so that when you tilt and spin, you retain the structure. This took about 24 hours to dry and I was thrilled to see the effect I was going for. Since this was a first attempt, I knew there was a learning curve and, as stated in the voice over, I realize the colors all must be semi or fully transparent as the azo yellow/napthal red mix was opaque and did spread out obscuring some of the swipe from the back view.
