- This week Mandi and I took a trip to Akeley Minnesota and the Paul Buyan State Forest. We stayed overnight at the Spider Lake Recreation Area before making our way up north. It was a cold and rainy weekend; temps were in the 30's at night with highs in the 50's. It is definitely feeling like fall here in Minnesota. We spent time walking though the town of Akeley. It was fun hearing stories of Mandi when she was growing up, she is from the area originally. I grew up about 90 miles south of Akeley, so I haven't spent a lot of time around here. We found camping spots all over. We only explored the northern part of the forest but came across multiple camping locations. The forest is over 100,000 acres and we only scratched the surface, I'll definitely be going back. It was a really relaxing weekend, but I left a lot to explore. Thanks for coming along on the journey.

@@KennyOfAllTrades For sure bro! I've been working my way up to more norther Minnesota. Just solo camped at Cottonwood lake campground for two nights, which is about 30 minutes north of Grand Rapids. Seemed like that was pretty close to where you were in the two videos I've seen of yours so far. There's one really good spot there, which is the one I stayed in, really close to a lake. Had the place to myself the first night, super relaxing, only one other camper the second night but not near me. Currently upgrading all of my filming gear, then saving for the camper van. Should be some fun content coming soon.
Kenny….skip the raft…get a kayak! Easier to maneuver! Would mount on top of the camper or on back! Great way to explore these small lakes!!!

I'm a little late watching this one, but it did not disappoint! Glad to see Mandi was able to join you; yep, I caught her reflection in the mirror. Another beautiful park, even if it was rainy. IMO sometimes those make the best camping days. Just keep 'em coming, they're always a highlight of my week!

I was big onto antiques at one time. More so then Mandi. I'm a big history need though. I don't buy much, the stuff I do have is purchased from auctions in the area.

Hello Kenny and Mandi. We are always amazed at how many different locations that you discover in Minnesota. Loved the sign that said "No Standing, Dancing only" We will be trying that recipe next week. Our schedule was changed a bit due to IAN. Just rude, don't you think? 😉We had to move South and have been hunkering down at a Cracker Barrel the past 3 nights waiting until it blows over. Glad that we are self contained with lots of solar and batteries. Hoping to go back to our spot tomorrow. Looking forward to the day that you, Mandi, get on the video with Kenny. Been on keto for about a month, down 28 lbs! Only 40 more to go! Got really tired of being lethargic and constant back pain. You should really try it out. Being in ketosis is amazing. Tons of energy all day and it’s nice not having those horrendous hunger cravings several times throughout the day. Downside is I dream of pizza and bread sometimes 😆.

I really should stick to it. I miss the gym too. I use to go every day for a hour or two. It was awesome for stress relief. I need to 50 pounds to be at my most comfortable. I'll be looking forward to your next video.
@@KennyOfAllTrades yep I really wish I was motivated enough for the gym but I find myself getting bored very quickly lifting weights. The hard manual labor I’m engaging in currently is plenty sufficient, however. Think I burn around 5-6,000 cals a day and eat less than 1500 so the fat is just flying off. The best part is I’m not even hungry!
That's awesome you lost 28 pounds already! I need to quit making excuses and start living healher.

@@KennyOfAllTrades it’s actually been unseasonably warm here. I’m at 7300’ and the last few days were in the high 70s. Should be in the low 60s to high 50s but next week looks more like average temps. And thanks! I can tell how much better I feel not carrying around that extra 30 lbs of fluff. 30 more to go!

@@KennyOfAllTrades we have been keto for over two years now. We have a 2021 Land Cruiser with a rooftop (iKamper) tent. As soon as I retire in 3 years, we hope to drive to AK and then down to Patagonia.

I am a wodower and take trips similar to you, but I like to explore lakes in my home state of Illinois.
Truck campers are far and few between in my area, but I love the versatility of a truck camper and get a lot of compliments.

@@KennyOfAllTrades I live in Michigan and in the years I have had my truck camper I don't think I've seen another here. Mine does get a lot of attention from people thinking it's to small but when they look inside they are amazed at what fits in the back of a pick up truck.

Love your videos. We have been full time truck camping now for going on 3 months. Your videos help inspire us. We have 2 Saturn inflatable 13.5ft SUP that double as sit on top kayaks for fishing. They fold up small and weigh 27lbs each. I’m 6.3 250 and I can take my 60 lb dog on board with me. They fit in the back seat and don’t take up much space when they are stored. Check them out. I have owned Saturn inflatables for years. Cost about $400 on sale. Keep up the good work!

One day I would love the opportunity to full-time out of the camper. Even if it is for only a few years. I thought about renting out the house to help pay for the travels.

I did pick up a folding kayak so that I can get onto the water. It has been a game changer. The fall colors are starting to come out here in New Hampshire as well.
The bike really comes in handy. I love taking atv trails and logging roads.
Cribbage in the camper with rain on the roof was choice time for my wife and I. Cool little town! Fall is definitely my favorite season. What kind of pickles do to use in the pepper sandwiches? Yep, I worked as a cop, she works at a hospital. We both worked long shifts, and for years I worked overnights. Since we both have kids from our first marriages we found it was better for the relationship to stay living apart.....basically so we could sleep when we weren't working. We also live about 30 miles apart and the kids are in diffrent school districts. But now the kids are getting older and I started working for the state about a year ago........ So one day we will make the next step......no need to rush things.....
My nephew is with NZ police force in Wellington Acting Superintendent at the moment, sorry don’t need a nurse at the moment, I don’t cook much lol Perhaps you should’ve named it Kenny’s Camping & Cooking , my nephew saw the cooking bag in the slow cooker getting new ideas cheers

Yep, i figured it out! The temps here are starting to cool down. It was 33 degrees this morning. I would love to visit Arizona. I'm still waiting for an unknown inheritance to fall from the sky, that way I can take some time off and travel.

Right! Once you add up the costs of maintaining an RV, registration fees, insurance, and interest if you carry a loan, you may be better off exploring the parks during the day and staying in a hotel at night.
I remember going on camping trips as a kid. It was an affordable way to take a family vacation. Some kids went to Wiscon Dells or Disney, we went camping. Now, families can not even afford that!

I agree it really is! That is a 12 dollar campsite. Camping fees are getting out of hand. Especially since there is a beautiful spot for free, not too far down the road.

Yes, I think so. About 90 % sure. It would be a pain because the platform gives u more room, but I think it could be done. It would be tight and not a good fit, but I think it would work.

Hey Kenny, I just found your channel and I have a question, do you use your on board heater or do you run a generator and use an electric heater and why. Thanks
If I have shore power, I will use the small electric heater. Last weekend ( tonight's video ) got down to -8. The camper stayed 68 degrees with only the electric heater.
If I don't have shore power, I run the factory propane furnace. I have used it down to -35. It will stay 65 degrees inside.
When it gets that cold, I will go through a 20-pound cylinder in one day. The furnace will run nonstop, and my batteries will last 8 to 9 hours. Then, I will have to run my truck or start the generator to charge the house batteries. If the generator is running, I start the electric heater.
So when I'm winter camping without shore power, I run the generator before bed to top off all equipment and house batteries. I'll run propane at night. Then, start the generator again for a bit in the morning. By the end of my weekend adventures im out of propane and gas. Lol

Kenny why don't you like other campers
It's not that I don't like other campers. I'm happy to see folks out enjoying nature. These lands are for all of us to enjoy.
My quest for solitude is about resetting my mind. Plus, I'm a bit of an introvert and get uncomfortable around groups of people. I've been in public service for many years. I'm not a full-time youtuber. Monday through Friday, I work in the Department of Public Safety. I was a police officer for many years before that. So when the weekend comes around, I like to find someplace isolated. Being alone helps my mind take a break and get ready for the next week at work.
I enjoy good company. Every once in a while, a viewer will recognize me and introduce themselves out in the back country. I really enjoy talking with them about camping and sharing our stories. I'm humbled by my viewers.
So to answer your question, I do like other campers. I don't have any issues with people enjoying the woods just like I do. I also appreciate silence and the sound of nature to prepare my mind for another week of work. .
