Don't listen to Dan, he only put Yzmir at the bottom because it counters his beloved Muna. This content creator is trying to create a narrative to control the metagame!
in addition to its strength, the ordis starter deck has also no counter / bad match-up among the other starters. Doesn't fear yzmir removal that much, can contest big guys, like to face zero stats from Lyra, can remove the hive from Axiom. At the end at would define 3 tier: T1 ordis, T2 muna/Bravos, T3 the others. Yzmir is not so bad, but very tricky to play, and very dependant on the draw (lack of draw is also a problem in the starter)
I played in my first organized event tonight, and I played with a slightly ALTERED Yzmir Starter Deck. I went undefeated. Best Muna, Brazos, and Axiom.
My experience playing on BGA was pretty similar. I ended up playing Ordis the least and Lyra the most since I wanted to be challenged. I won a lot with Nevenka by being very safe with the ability, typically using it last in a turn and only on characters that if I lost wouldn't affect the outcome of an expedition. Your strength in that case is in waiting for your opponent to commit before adding power to the board (since you are likely to get a boost). It would be interesting to see a follow up where the Starter decks are ranked purely by the strength of the rares that they contain. The prospect of getting a guaranteed rare Brassbug Hive definitely convinced me to choose Axiom as one of my two decks!
I agree with this list. If anything, I would have both Axiom and Muna in A. I can agree about Yzmir Starter not wanting to be opressive, as it gained a ton from the booster pack reveals.
Hi, great content ! According to an Equinox employee (during a stream event on a French channel), the Yzmir starter deck is actually… the best deck / 2nd best deck… once you have played a LOT of games with it and knows what interactions to use against the Hero you are facing. (On my side, I deeply hate playing the Lyra deck for the reasons you mentioned).
That doesn't surprise me! You have to be super knowledgeable for that for sure - that's always the challenge with trying to test starter decks. The better you are st the game, the less that represents the actual Starter experience! That's why my list is largely weighted towards ease of play!
Man, the first time I saw After You, my first thought was, that's pretty busted. In a territory control game with no out-of-turn interaction, forcing your opponent to go first and reveal their strategy into Yzmir which is all about powerful spells and reactions is just really good. I actually think the Yzmir deck belongs above Lyra based on my personal games (Lyra and Yzmir were the first two starters I bought), but no higher.
I see why ordis is at the top but after playing a few game and knowing the game and cards better, I feel like it is more "beginners friendly" than potent I feel like bravos is stronger, muna is debatable.
Just had the unfortunate chance of meeting Sakarubru yesterday on ExAltered and thought it was a bug at first xD Really punishing to see progress just wiped out
Sakarabru is definitely the strong end game of the deck! That's exactly why I suspect Yzmir is a little less powerful than the others - for newer players it can be disheartening to get controlled that way!
Lira is a gambling deck. So yeah, it will hurt sometimes, but at the same time I have played once match against that, for 3 turns in row, the Asmodeus card got a +6/+6 bost... The All-In card + lira got then as 12/12/12, without a "banish" card, you can't do nothing hehehehe
Absolutely! I've done some incredibly fun drafts and can't stop building cool constructed decks. The uniques make opening boxes more fun than I've had with any other game. Our players at the shop tonight had to be kicked out to close because they couldn't stop playing games.
Starter decks will fill our rare slots really easy if you aren't buying a *ton* of boosters! There are so many rares (and enough commons) that it can be tough to get exactly the cards you want - so I'd say if you have just one faction you like and some people to trade with, a box can get you what you need, otherwise a starter deck is a great place to fill out some of the essentials to start!

As a fellow lover of Muna, I support Dan's message 100% 😆
Red wins
It would be cool to have a follow-up on how to expand from the starter deck after you get your first boosters.
I second this!
Yes! I agree 100%
Yeahhhh
Yes!
So based on this I need to pick Yzmir starter so I can blame the deck on my losses, not my skill. Thanks!
Hello Dan! Thanks for the unboxing live! It was amazing!
Thank you, it was so much fun to do!

Nice work on the deck flip intro! I know it took a couple shots to get that looking nice.
Thanks for confirming my suspicions! This is exactly how I would rank the starters, and I'm glad to see I wasn't wrong.

Not too surprising Control is always the easiest way to win at the end of the day across all cards games.

ahaha ce que je voulais écrire !
If you do this again, can you please zoom in on the tier list? The images are very small!
Sorry! I realized it when I was done 😅
Lyria is the biggest RNG fun deck around

That's not unreasonable at all! And I think people tend to improve a lot more with Yzmir as they play.

I played Yzmir at my local Prerelease. I only lost to the other Yzmir player...
Just had the unfortunate chance of meeting Sakarubru yesterday on ExAltered and thought it was a bug at first xD

No one is even going to mention that box flip catch you did without even looking?? That probably would have taken me at least a few tries lol
Oh yeah, I TOTALLY did that in one take!
I paused the video instantly to look for that comment lol. That was insane !

Muna has Spindle Harvesters, QED
jk this largely aligns with sentiment I think, maybe I'd swap Muna and Bravos but bias
Me: I wonder how my 2 starter decks compare
Dan: You picked the C and C- tiers...
Me: ... At least there's not a huge gap lol
Lyra and Yzmir can be a really interesting match! Not bad choices at all! Don't put *too much* stock into the ranking!
@@MaindeckGames agreed. Great video! Really enjoyed it
Now that the full set is out, is the game continuing to be enjoyable?

@@MaindeckGames This sounds amazing. Do you have any idea how frequently they plan to release new sets?
@@robertmitchell8052 I've heard they would release new sets thrice per year, or something like that. So, I've the feeling it'll be very reasonable!
Is it worth it to buy a starter deck or should i just buy a booster box? Great video Dan!

Prediction before I read any of the comments or watch the video, Dan puts Muna in S-tier. 🤔
In my heart that would be true!
