Ummm…not all concrete is the same.
Also…not all loads are the same.
Concrete is poured with different strengths based on the location it is being used.
You can imagine a pedestrian sidewalk would require much less strength than an airport runway or a truck loading ramp.
Specifically…city sidewalk is poured at 2800 psi, with 3/4” flat rock.
You cant just put whatever you want on top of it, and expect nothing to happen.
Even the soils underneath are only prepared for pedestrian travel.
      Yeah…kiddo.
      It wrecks the concrete.
FYI: a full garbage truck driving through a street one time…is the same as 30,000 passenger vehicles.
Again…not all loads are the same.

Probably at least 90% of them anyway? I think there are three buckets we can put unhoused people in: drugs, terrible luck/bad decisions, insanity. you can only get people treatment for drugs if they wanna quit doing drugs. You can only get people help for mental illness if they accept help. The folks with bad luck? A lot of those people have probably already been moved successfully off the street.

It's not the City that wants them out, it's Hugo Soto Martinez, the councilman for council district 13. He did this for the boulders that were placed on Vermont and Santa Monica to deter the vendors.

There were some warehouses off Santa Monica and Vine that had signs posted saying something like, “SIDEWALKS POWER WASHED DAILY”
They didn’t have any homeless on the sidewalks. This was a few years back tho.

@thedeadbaby @thedeadbaby thinking back on what Huizar was doing as a whole, I realized it wasn't bad. The homeless situation was being contained to make way for new development. His actions are what brought back people to renovate downtown lofts, bars, and big businesses. Yeah, he shouldn't have been selling off contracts, but downtown was booming as a result. If you look at downtown now, post Huizar, it looks like the inside of a musical festival port-o-potty.

@@hellomoto9206 Imagine how much more housing there would be if he wasn't giving chinese developers exclusive access. The homeless containment only started after he was bribed enough.

It's amazing that the city can "move swiftly" when it wants to (i.e. to remove decorative plants), while dragging its feet on the actual issue of tent cities.

How long is the city expecting everyone to stay quiet and do nothing before we all explode on them? Do they think it’s ok for us citizens of LA to just sit back and allow this to continue? Eventually everyone will start protest. And it’s only logical. Something must happen for them to take us serious and show respect. They are giving more respect to the homeless than those that pay taxes. Make it make sense.

Weird.. I remember a few years ago.. IF someone was sitting too long and for sure lying down and don't even think of "Camping" the POLICE would come and remove you...nowadays ANYONE can pitch a TENT anywhere and reside there..SAD how they let this behavior get so BAD, but when you let it slide and give incentives THINGS ONLY GET WORSE. .. everytime

California Street and sidewalk code section 5610: (see code) Sidewalks in front of private property are to be maintained by the the owner of the property adjacent to the sidewalk. This as of 1989. The city has no jurisduction here and is putting the property owner at risk of liability. A most stupid Code section.
