As someone who grew up with a manipulative spoiled friend (like she'd regularly get into fights that end with her calling her mom to come to school and yell at the other classmates) I almost fully blame the parents (Barbara and Buddy) for this, they raised her and taught themselves that she is never wrong and that she is the ruler of the world.

Shit this fits the bill for my younger sister and my mom 😬 same bullshit but her friends kissed her butt. She constantly got in trouble and my mom swore it’s the other kids fault. Even when she got caught fiddling willies in the staircase instead of being in class :/ mom swore can’t be her the school just “Likes to lie about her daughter”.

Some people are really just like that! Lol. But I do agree that a lot of the times it begins with the parents! Its one thing to defend your child but its another thing to be so eluded to think its everyone else all the time! Lol. Ya know, my mom always told me that!! Lmfao!

My Dad worked for the CIA when I was a kid in the 70’s. He worked at Area 51. I just thought he was gone a lot. I didn’t have a clue where or why. I didn’t find out until I was 34 in 2003. Even then it was my Mom who blurted it out and my Dad got mad at her. He DEFINITELY didn’t go around telling anybody about it. I still don’t even know what he did there. He’s gone now so I will never know.

I had a history professor whose dad worked for area 51 and the stories he would tell us blew my mind. He used the freedom of information act to get some stuff released but even then they wouldn’t release most of it. When he was a kid occasionally the feds would go and read their house making sure that they weren’t spies and he said they would come home and it would be a total mess. The next day he would go to school and say random things like don’t you hate it when they come over and mess up your house and then you have to stay up late and clean it. He just thought everyone had to do that. He had all sorts of weird stories like that. He didn’t know until he was an adult and even then he wasn’t supposed to talk about it. He didn’t start talking about it until after 9/11 but even then his dad didn’t say much of anything. For what it’s worth he was the best history teacher I ever had and I took five of his classes and went into history after.

My ex-husband had a friend & coworker in the USAF who suddenly got sent to Nellis AFB in early 2000s. He "disappeared" for almost a year, and when he finally "reappeared", he refused to talk about the special duty assignment he was on. He did disclose to a handful of his close military friends that he was at "Groom Lake" but again he refused to elaborate. But he was never the same after this "special duty assignment"; not exactly suspicious or skeptical of the government but not as trusting of the govt either. Hard to explain. I just remember he wasn't the same laid-back fun-loving personality after he got back. Soooo.... I tend to believe that there is something out there that your dad and others witnessed and/or worked on.

I found out one of my grandmas was in the CIA. It was decades before I was born and none of us talk about it. I don’t really have any stories specific to her time working there but I know they gave her a gun and she always carried it. I guess when my dad was a child they were driving in the car and stopped at a red light. My grandma made my dad wear a seat belt even though they were new to cars and most people didn’t use them at the time. A van pulled up behind them and a man got out and ran up and opened the back door. The man grabbed my dad and tried to snatch him but the seat belt slowed him down…giving my grandma enough time to point her gun at them and say “get your hands off my son!!”. Essentially, her working for the CIA could be the only reason I even exist right now. If my dad had been abducted I wouldn’t be here

    • @platedlizard
      @platedlizard 2 ปีที่แล้ว +116

Christie was nearly a victim as well. She had moved in with her great-grandmother to care for her and was working as an EMT. One day her great-grandma took ill and was in the hospital and while Christie was at work her parents and Janelle came by the place and ransacked it. Another time Christie was a home and the Potters came by and pounded on the door and windows shouting at her. Janelle had convinced her parents that Christie was selling drugs out of the fire station and they were looking for evidence of that. of course, it was ridiculous. there were a number of messages from "Chris" to Barbra about how Christie wanted them all dead and was plotting against them etc. If they'd gotten away with killing Billie and Billie Jean she probably would have been next.

      @dianet888 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

Sorry ,people need to learn that being kind hearted does not mean letting in your space weirdos and all sort of criminals on their journey to normality .
Wanting to help should have boundaries and there should be a no trespassing sign in sight at all times.
Problem is that mentally ill (also emotionally ill) need to concentrate their attention in one direction for various reasons. And who ever becomes the focus point for such an individual is in danger if not lost.
Unfortunately ignorance makes many act from their heart but without connecting the brain too.
Brain with no heart = monster
Heart with no brain = dumbo
Connect the two and you will be a complete person.

Billie Jean was so beautiful. She had to endure a lot before her murder. Endless bullying and harassment from a woman that viewed her as the threat when she (Jenelle) never had a relationship with Billy. I heard that it was endless for Billie Jean. Apparently, in order to prove that she was being bullied and harassed by Billie Jean, Jenelle created fake accounts pretending to be her victim and her victim's friends and saying mean stuff about her just to send police to the home.
Then to be murdered while holding your child in your arms to protect him... that's just cruel. Anybody hurting a defenceless person holding their baby is devoid of anything making them human.

For example when the FBI(I know they aren't the same thing, but they are US government organizations), was arresting Ted Kazcynski, the Unabomber, the FBI asked neighbors to check his property to see if it was safe for them to arrest him or if their were any traps. This is the most rediculous recollection I have of CIA or FBI relying on citizens to do their work.

Jenelle went to the same high school as I did. My husband graduated with her in 1999, she was a few years ahead of me. We are right outside Philadelphia by about 30 minutes and our town is known for mushrooms. By no means would I compare it to Mountain City,Tennessee but it’s definitely “the suburbs”, so it’s like they took an already reclusive person and isolated them even more by bringing her to Mountain city.
My husband said she was always a bit strange, had a really high pitched voice, and didn’t have any friends , super quiet.
That’s all he really had to say about her . He was friendly with Chris & it was fascinating when this all came out to see people we knew in such a sensationalized story.
I think sometimes the victims in this one can get lost so I appreciate you telling this story in the way that you did.

Actually no. First of all, psychopath and sociopaths are not the same. Psychopaths are born this way.
Next, these are not just helicopter parents, there is a highly abusive and controlling mother, and typically it sets up these children to never be able to leave her abuse, or if estranged to become a perfect victim for abuse.

Instead of purposely making them sick if the child has any kind of sicknesses, mental health issues, social awkwardness etc the parents want them to just be around forever. My mom was like this she told my father that she wanted a kid that had mental health issues or some kind of neurological issue where they would need to always be taken care of! She never taught me how to drive a car but let my brothers get cars. She'll never taught me how to do anything so when I got pregnant at 21 with the daughter I promise to be different and she still tries to be involved in my life. I let her have a relationship with my daughter but our relationship is done. She was also like this with my other brother where he could have possibly had learning disabilities and she got extra taxes for him until he was 21 because he was living at her house. She would let him work and encourage that but she wanted to always be involved and always wanted her kids to live with her. Just the other day she asked me if I'm really sick or if my husband dies would you please come live with me? even though she knows that we have a home and it's very close to hers and I said I would always help her but it's a very bad dysfunctional mental illness. Maybe it's not Munchausen by proxy but it's some kind of controlling wanting to keep the kid around and probably liking the attention that people give them because they seem like such courageous parents.

And Barbara actually did believe "Chris" I think because "Chris" told them that he had been watching Billy for a while because he and Billy Jean had taken young girls before and killed them, raped them, sold them and they were satanic. This sister dynamic reminds me a lot of my mom and my aunt. My aunt was the younger sister, and she was spoiled by my great grandmother. My mom was a very polite, independent young lady who put herself through ballet lessons by cleaning the studio. My aunt would sneak out at night and bully kids at school. She would cut up my mom’s clothes and at one point threw one of the old, heavy phones at my mom’s back and hurt her.
To this day, my aunt has: cheated on her husband multiple times, adopted and promptly given away multiple pets, wastes money on expensive purses and clothes when they can’t pay their bills, has threatened my grandma on a few occasions that she’d never see her grandchildren ever again because they had an argument, etc.
She’s a monster and she’s gotten what she’s wanted her whole life. Amazingly, her older daughter is beautifully well-adjusted. She’s a bright, hard worker who stands up for her friends. The only sad thing is that she’s mean to her little sister, because my aunt has always treated the younger one better. She and her husband would spank the older one, yell at her, make fun of her when she cried, etc. My mom and I were always around to clean up the mess her parent’s made, and would talk to her like a person. My mom knows how her mother is and has always tried to offer a respite from the chaos. My mom was also the black sheep of the family for pointing out toxic patterns and blatant lies.

Idk with the way they printed out the emails to shred them makes me think they are computer illiterate and probably really thought that would "delete" the emails by getting them off the computer which then makes me think of how gullible a lot of older people are with scammers exc when they get on the Internet that they don't really understand how to use, so I think they probably did believe it in a way 💀

there's a lot more to the story and actually, they believed the CIA thing 100%. Buddy had been telling everyone he was CIA, not retired CIA, active, for so long I think he believed it. He came up with that story in the first place and started telling it soon after Viet Nam. Janelle picked up on it and it was part of her inspiration for "Chris", she invented a CIA operative who while he was spying on her enemies was also trying to unknot Buddy's CIA paperwork so he could have his official CIA badge. They had this whole fantasy life that had become a full-on shared delusion.

I think that the boyfriend was completely convinced. Him asking the police about the CIA man seems to me like he genuinely believed the story. Janelle was a great manipulator even though she was a horrible liar and clearly wasn’t the brightest bulb. Her parents sound like narcissists to me, who took so much pride in having a daughter who was the center of attention so that they felt important that they based their entire lives on Janelle because she made them feel special. I think deep down they probably knew, or at least had enough doubts that they should’ve known better. Either way, they’re clearly insane and anyone can murder a mother while she holds her baby is a sick individual and he 100% deserves to be locked up forever, because any person with a soul would know that is not okay no matter who the fuck is telling you to do it.

I think the issue was not whether the CIA circumstances were "believable" but that the whole family (and jamie) were in this deceptive feedback loop. If Buddy was telling people he worked for the CIA previously, he was probably feeding Barbara information along the lines of "oh yeah, this is how operatives work, this is similar to my experience". Even though he knew that wasn't true, he was using deception to verify his previous deception and therefore validating something completely absurd. I think they all lied to each other to confirm their previous lies, so that just led to a mountain of misinformation that only continued to build.

I've waited all weekend for your next true crime story! Literally checked several times today and was so happy to finally see it! I've listened to it twice already (as if I have nothing else to do)! My husband knows to give me an hour when I say, "I'm listening to Danielle." The story you told us last week was truly disturbing, but absolutely riveting! This story is disturbing in a different way. Those parents ruined that kid. I'm a mother of two and I cannot imagine favoring one over the other! Janelle clearly had/has a developmental disorder such as Asperger's or something, and those parents had the responsibility of getting her the proper guidance and teachers that could help her learn how to communicate in a way that would help her achieve goals in her life. I'm so angry at them because, imho, none of this would have happened had they been better parents. It all comes down to them. I'm not excusing Janelle from the terrible things she did, but I truly believe she wouldn't have turned out like she did if she had parents that faced the truth that their child had issues and had gotten the help she needed. SO thankful the other daughter got out when she did, and I hope she's doing well. Such a tragic story that never had to happen. My sister is a special ed teacher and has seen kids lives turned around with the proper guidance, love, and care. Anyway, I'm looking forward to next week's story! Also, I LOVE your makeup! I have no idea how you do it while telling us such intense stories. I can't talk to anyone when I'm putting eyeliner or mascara on! So glad I found you after Bailey decided to take a much needed break! I'm a faithful Danielle Kirsty fan now and spreading the word! You ROCK!

I think in cases like these the parents secretly don't want the kids to turn out "better" than them. They try to keep the kids crippled and dependant on them and turn on the kids who are independent and smart. Which is why the one who had sense enough to get out is the one they always demonized because deep down they knew and couldn't manipulate them.

When I was in my early teens my sister, who is 5 years younger, would push, hit or just even verbally be mean to her friends. And with her always complaining to my mom, it became my job to help her win back her friends. Then of course my sister would be angry her friends wanted to play with me and not her so she’d AGAIN lose the friends and my mom would again tell me to go help my sister get her friends back. And then my sister would complain to my mom that I was trying to steal her friends. Yep there I was at 13, wishing I could hang out with 8year olds instead of kids my age, who I called my best friends.
Oddly my mom believed it because she’d say “Dee you’re supposed to help her make up with her friends not monopolize her friends!”
But then, if my brothers ( I have 3) came up to physically harass me ( like bending my arm behind my back, spitting snot into my hair, pulling my hair or, my brother Tom’s fave, forcing my face into his sweaty armpit) my mom would say “Denise leave your brothers alone! “
So I can relate a bit to Christie’s frustration .

It’s a good thing, Janelle didn’t have children. Can you imagine what those poor kids would’ve been through.

Great point!!! But tbh, she was set up for failure by her parents in every single way possible. Her parents must’ve gotten that way from their own bad parents, and it’s just a horrible long cycle of generations of bad parenting. Thank god that cycle is now ended and won’t be passed down for yet another generation...

That would have resulted in 3 generations of Karens.

This is the 3rd video of yours that I’ve listened to and wow, well done. RIP to all the victims I’ve heard about. What a scary world.
    Thanks for the video. 🎉

I watched an interview with Janelle and she was so delusional. Such a shame people had to die because of that coward.

Janelle believed the whole town was jealous of those glowing yellow teeth and her enviable figure. I wonder if her house had mirrors.

Yes. I'd have slapped her a few times. Ridiculous way to raise a kid.
