Gibson wrote and engineered this entire song herself and I think it's one of the most well made pop songs I've ever seen. The way she brings the saxophone in at 3:23 is just simply brilliant. I really do think she's a genius. Don't underestimate what she did; it's harder than it looks. Especially since while it may seem "old school" now, at the time it was exactly perfect.
We haven't had any pop artist since Debbie. Taylor Swift has written some of her own songs, but nothing like Debbie. Debbie didn't act like a 13 year old girl at a boy band concert, every time she was out in public, like Taylor does! And Taylor's songs are all the same. They sound the same, they are all about the same thing. Some of her lyrics don't even make sense, they just rhyme, that's all that matters in the pop world today. The 80s and 90s pop music will NEVER be ever again. We will never have great songs like these. Is it me, or did we have way more bands and artists to listen to back during the 80s and 90s, than we have today? We had not only pop, but country (real country, not the pop country crap out today), rock, rap, R&B, hip hop, metal and alternative. Now, all I hear is pop, pop country, and rap (if that's what you want to call it). We had so many R&B and hip hip artists/groups back then. Too many to count them all. I cant even name a R&B or a hip hop group today. The days of Jodeci, Boyz II Men, Silk, 112, R. Kelly, etc., are gone. And it makes me so sad. I mean, I hear the same handful of artists on the radio, the same songs. An artist has a new song, the pop radio station in my city plays it every hour, all day. Sometimes twice an hour! Taylor Swift has a new song released, and it shoots to #1. How is that? I'm sorry, but EVERY song she releases isn't that great. Everybody is now conditioned into thinking that every song she releases is just awesome.
This song put her in the Guinness Book Of World records as the youngest artist to ever write, produce, and perform a #1 song themselves. She was 17. To this day, she is still listed as the youngest female to ever accomplish that feat. Something a lot of singers will never be able to claim they did at any age, much less as a teenager.
While Taylor Swift might have more number one hits than DG, one thing she doesn't have is this Guinness records. That's why I thought DG is a better singer.
The generation of composers and music producers that grew up with big band music with the saxophones did us all good by featuring the sax in many 80s music. Bravo. 80's music scene wouldn't be the same without it.
I remember when I was 35 years old, I went on a very long drive with my girlfriend. She was a head banger. It was my car so I picked the music. I played Debbie's greatest hits CD twice in a row. On the way back I played it once and then started to play it a second time. My girlfriend hit the eject button. I was driving a Miata and I had the top down. She just threw the disc up in the air. It landed somewhere on I-40. That's okay. I bought another one. Years later, the girl is long gone, and I am still listening to Debbie.
Thats suck, I also like bands like Megadeth, Helloween, Iron Maiden, Kreator and more extreme music like Morbid Angel, Dark funeral , Nargaroth but also I love Glam Metal 80's like Mötley Crüe, Poison, KISS, Def Leppard, Dokken, Bon Jovi etc... and love the pop of the 80's like Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, Cyndi Lauper❤, Blondie, Madonna, The Human League and many more .... why people only likes to listen only one kind of music?? You wont be more or less metalhead if you like another artist.
Debbie Gibson- Foolish beat- is my favorite song off her album. I love listening to good ol songs from the 80's. Hadn't heard the song in years.. looked it up, played it, remembered all the lyrics!! yaas!
This is one of the best heartbreak songs ever. It's timeless. It describes perfectly how one feels when a love dies...even now, it still hurts so good, this song. She was the Taylor Swift of the 80's. her voice is one of a kind and her talent, she is in a class of her own. I sang her song only in my dreams acapella for a school concert in high school...senior year 1992.
Ooh There was a time when Broken hearts and broken dreams Were over There was a place where All you could do was Wish on a four-leaf clover But now is a new time There is a new place Where dreams just can't come true It started the day when I left you (oh) I could never love again the way that I loved you (oh) I could never cry again like I did when I left you And when we said goodbye Oh, the look in your eyes Just left me beside myself without your heart (without your heart) I could never love again now that we're apart When I was sorry It was too late to turn around (turn around) And tell you so There was no reason There was no reason Just a foolish beat of my heart I could never love again the way that I loved you (oh) I could never cry again like I did when I left you And when we said goodbye Oh, the look in your eyes Just left me beside myself without your heart (without your heart) I could never love again now that we're apart Oh, can't you see I'm not fooling nobody? Don't you see the tears are falling down my face? Since you went away Break my heart, you slipped away Didn't know I was wrong Never meant to hurt you now you're gone Ooh Do, do, do, do, do, do Ooh Ooh I could never love again now that we're apart (Now that we're apart) oh I could never love again now that we're apart

Debbie was Taylor Swift of the late 80s/early 90s. Thanks to this song she received Guinness Book of World Record for the youngest singer to write, produce, and perform a number-one single on her own. Even Taylor (for all her talents) couldn't beat that.
Girl I recorded this song and rewinded the tape recorder back and forth until I had the whole song wrote down. I still remember it word for word til this day and I am 45 years old now. I had to be about 12 when this came out.
This song woke my Sunday afternoon nap coz some passing vehicle was blasting it on loud speaker. I didn't know the title. I racked my brain up searching on Google based on the lyrics I heard and when I finally found the correct title (the next day), the satisfaction I felt! 😅 And now it's on my repeat. I love the beat!
I used to love this song, and still enjoy listening to it today, so thanks to the person who uploaded it. I grew up in the 80's and have some fond memories of this period, not just the music, but also the culture. I watched some excerpts from 2 episodes of 'Top of the Pops' from 1982 yesterday, and it showed songs such as: Imagine by John Lennon Golden Brown by The Stranglers Ant Music by Adam and The Ants. ( I strongly urge anyone who hasn't heard of Adam and The Ants to do a TH-cam search of this group, you won't regret it). Several other great songs were also in the charts early 82. At the time I didn't appreciate what good music was being produced. But when comparing it to current chart music, it really highlights how poor much of the music being produced today really is.
..It's sometime in the summer of 1989, I'm 15 years old.. hanging out in my room listening to this on my boom box and crying over my boyfriend who had just broken up with me. My young heart was completely broken. Haha! Young love! I remember thinking I'd truly never love again. 😅

All of the 80s, my friend. Great music! I was a teenager by mid 80s.
I always to want to go to NYC in the 80's it looks cozy
Thanks, neolibs, for ruining everything 🙄
I am an 80s child and miss it a lot in spite of the bad memories. But I had many good memories too. I wish we had a time machine to go back..
Now Don the Con Trump has F@CKED UP EVERYTHING. 😡
"never meant to hurt you now your'e gone ""I could never love again now that we 're apart" timeless song !! 80's baby
Patricia Garcia this and NKOTB's 'the right stuff' music video.
The nostalgia is so strong here. This is the music I've listened through radio and TV at the time. There was even no internet back then. Crazy!
Gibson was the youngest person to write, produce and perform a number one single, this one.
Great song. Goes hard
Not only in that minute, it also sounds awesome at the beginning of the song, 1 of the best songs of Debbie. I love her. 💖💓
SUCH A GORGEOUS SONG!!!!!! 37 YEARS OLD!!!! WOW, I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS MASTERPIECE IS 37 YEARS OLD!!!
The generation of composers and music producers that grew up with big band music with the saxophones did us all good by featuring the sax in many 80s music. Bravo. 80's music scene wouldn't be the same without it.
Anyone still listening to this classic in 2023? Back when real talent existed 😍
member berries... lol
Yes! Me! Debbie Gibson just posted a video about this song and selling lyric sheets
Y miles de temas más ... Feliz Navidad !!!
She was only 17 in this video! So talented!
What a classless twit. Good riddance, I say.
What kind of girl was that? I'm a headbanger and a mellow Debbie also. Glad you're not with that girl anymore. Better save Debbie.
I would throw her out on I-40 lol
I was both. Headbanger & dug Debbie & all the other talented pop tarts of the 80s!
80s was the best times in my life I’m 44 now I remember the 80s so well 😩😢😘😌😊
I am 51 years old and l agree with you

Yeah it was, I was 18 in '87 and realize now more than ever that it was a great era. The 90's were also great.
Me and you are the same age. I remember this song like yesterday.
Debbie Gibson- Foolish beat- is my favorite song off her album. I love listening to good ol songs from the 80's. Hadn't heard the song in years.. looked it up, played it, remembered all the lyrics!! yaas!
Who could not have been hypnized by her eyes 😍
Does anyone agree???
great song can't believe this girl wrote and produced and sung her songs at a young age
Boss babe
It's 2023, but I still love to sing this song in the karaoke ❤ Classic songs never get old.

One of the most beautiful Love songs ever written
I loved the 80's.... SO glad I got to live in that generation! Debbie Gibson is a large part of my 80's memories. She can sing :)
One of the best and beautiful videos from the 80's #TeamDebbie 💖
This is one of the best heartbreak songs ever. It's timeless. It describes perfectly how one feels when a love dies...even now, it still hurts so good, this song. She was the Taylor Swift of the 80's. her voice is one of a kind and her talent, she is in a class of her own. I sang her song only in my dreams acapella for a school concert in high school...senior year 1992.
Please don't insult her by comparing her to taylor swift. Debbie 100% more class and talent than that other hack.
Debbie Gibson voz impecável e sempre maravilhosa!! Amo as músicas dela!! Cantora sensacional!! ✌🏾🎤🎼🎵🎶🥰👊🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👑🎆🎙🔝🔝🎉
Linda canção toca no meu coração ❤
Ooh
There was a time when
Broken hearts and broken dreams
Were over
There was a place where
All you could do was
Wish on a four-leaf clover
But now is a new time
There is a new place
Where dreams just can't come true
It started the day when I left you (oh)
I could never love again the way that I loved you (oh)
I could never cry again like I did when I left you
And when we said goodbye
Oh, the look in your eyes
Just left me beside myself without your heart (without your heart)
I could never love again now that we're apart
When I was sorry
It was too late to turn around (turn around)
And tell you so
There was no reason
There was no reason
Just a foolish beat of my heart
I could never love again the way that I loved you (oh)
I could never cry again like I did when I left you
And when we said goodbye
Oh, the look in your eyes
Just left me beside myself without your heart (without your heart)
I could never love again now that we're apart
Oh, can't you see I'm not fooling nobody?
Don't you see the tears are falling down my face?
Since you went away
Break my heart, you slipped away
Didn't know I was wrong
Never meant to hurt you now you're gone
Ooh
Do, do, do, do, do, do
Ooh
Ooh
I could never love again now that we're apart
(Now that we're apart) oh
I could never love again now that we're apart

I was -8 but still love it 😂
To some this song is the epitome of 80’s bubblegum pop but Debbie Gibson made history being the youngest person to ever write, compose, sing and produce a number one song all at the tender age of 16. 👏👏👏

Hallo
Me. 01.10.2024
So happy this was my era of music . Feeling nostalgic 😢
***CORRIGINDO***
Nostalgia. Hits you right in your heart. I miss being young. I wish I could go back to the 80s.
19 -20 years old then .Almost 55 now..feeling the same after all these years. Yes,it still hits the heart!!
😢me too nearly 50 wish was back at school

Unforgettable even in Belgium ❤
Foolish beats was the real title of the song , With lyrics or not i had already get it ,
I couldn't agree more. I keep coming back to this time. Glad I have witnessed this.
@@rubypearlharadji5542 Foolish BeatS !!! No Foolish Beat ? Thank You, Ruby.

She wrote her own songs. True talent
Wrote, produced, and performed...at 16
Guinness book for being youngest female to write, produce and sing her own song.
Debbie was Taylor Swift of the late 80s/early 90s. Thanks to this song she received Guinness Book of World Record for the youngest singer to write, produce, and perform a number-one single on her own. Even Taylor (for all her talents) couldn't beat that.
@@LGranthamsHeir Swifts songs are cheesy and they suck, imo.
She was compared with Tiffany, another beautiful teenybopper, however, as you said, she both wrote her songs & was a pretty good pianist
I'm 39 and i loved Debbie when I was younger and still do. Absolutely amazing voice and talent ❤

From Korea Seoul
This song still bangs. The 11 year old me remembers every word.
Girl I recorded this song and rewinded the tape recorder back and forth until I had the whole song wrote down. I still remember it word for word til this day and I am 45 years old now. I had to be about 12 when this came out.
It sure does and I was 16 though then.
Here I am in Oct. 2024 Still loving her songs and voice. I never thought teen age love lost would be repeated in later years. Hurts just as badly.

A song that never gets old
This song woke my Sunday afternoon nap coz some passing vehicle was blasting it on loud speaker. I didn't know the title. I racked my brain up searching on Google based on the lyrics I heard and when I finally found the correct title (the next day), the satisfaction I felt! 😅 And now it's on my repeat. I love the beat!

Best song EVER sang by a teenager!
Tough choice deciding which was best, since theee were many great songs by teens.
So glad I grew up with the music of the 80s because it's the best era
me too
Ditto
me too. the lyrics so beautiful and meaningful
I used to love this song, and still enjoy listening to it today, so thanks to the person who uploaded it.
I grew up in the 80's and have some fond memories of this period, not just the music, but also the culture. I watched some excerpts from 2 episodes of 'Top of the Pops' from 1982 yesterday, and it showed songs such as:
Imagine by John Lennon
Golden Brown by The Stranglers
Ant Music by Adam and The Ants. ( I strongly urge anyone who hasn't heard of Adam and The Ants to do a TH-cam search of this group, you won't regret it).
Several other great songs were also in the charts early 82.
At the time I didn't appreciate what good music was being produced. But when comparing it to current chart music, it really highlights how poor much of the music being produced today really is.
i totally agree. 80's is when u had real good music.
..It's sometime in the summer of 1989, I'm 15 years old.. hanging out in my room listening to this on my boom box and crying over my boyfriend who had just broken up with me. My young heart was completely broken. Haha!
Young love! I remember thinking I'd truly never love again. 😅
80's music, unrivaled.
Go back 80's PLEASE!!!!
