Quote from Willie Nelson. There are two sorts of men in this world. Those who are in love with Emmylou Harris .And those who haven't met her yet . Amen
When Emmylou covers a song, she makes it her own. "Pancho and Lefty", "Till I Gain Control Again", "Leaving Louisiana In the Broad Daylight", "2 More Bottles of Wine", "Tonight the Bottle Let Me Down", "The Queen Of the Silver Dollar", "Sweet Dreams", "Together Again", "Mama's Hungry Eyes", "Today I Started Loving You Again", "Every Grain of Sand", I could go on and on. Nobody does any of those songs any better than Emmylou. She didn't write them but she made them her own. Bob Dylan said he thought her version of "Every Grain of Sand" is among the best of any of his songs that somebody else has recorded. When you think almost every country, rock, folk and blues singer and band has recorded at least 1 Bob Dylan song, so, to be considered one of the best versions of one of his songs is quite an honor. Emmylou knows how to get to the heart of a song and make the listener feel what she's singing, that's for sure. She's a real soul singer. I am grateful that I was alive a young adult the same time as Emmylou Harris when she was turning a generation of rock fans on to country music, like nobody else.
Very well said Vagabond. I'm a few years older than her and saw her singing folk music at a bar in Washington back in 1972. She was unknown back then. A short time later she hooked up with Gram Parsons and sang duets with him in his band called Fallen Angel's. Emmy recorded with him on his only 2 albums with her. He died later that year and Emmylou went out on her own a year later and recorded her album Boulder to Birmingham which was a tribute to her mentor, Gram Parsons. I have followed her and loved her all these years since. She is a one of a kind woman to match her musical talent.
The contributions that Emmylou has brought to the wide stage of musical talent l don’t think can be measured she’s beyond all the great compliments we can think of at this point. She’s one genuine soul for sure!!!
Sorry Trevor, it's Emmylou all day and all night over the very pretty Alison. She's 13 years older than me and has been taking my breath away for 30 years!
There's a fabulous clip of Little Feat, with Lowell, doing Dixie Chicken with Emmylou and Bonnie Raitt doing BV's. Really! Emmylou is clearly having a grand time but has the air of a Sunday school teacher who's wandered onto the stage by mistake.
...the song is my anthem... and I can listen to anyone singing it... and I have heard many, many people give it a shot...no, it will never die...My best to you Miss Fanny...
I love this song, the passion this song generates for any singer or listener is almost beyond compare - this song always makes me think of Levon Helm with such joy.
A lot of Canadians see this song as a national anthem as well since it was written by Canadian Robbie Robertson who penned much of the creativity The Band generated.
Not as much passion as I would prefer. They are just phoning it in. Ole Levon could make you tear up when he sang this song. Viva the memories and music of Levon Helm and the other members of The Band that have passed from this crazy world.
I saw the Dave Rawlings Machine (with Gillian Welch, natch) at the Ryman a few weeks ago. There were several notable musicians in the audience that night, including John Paul Jones, Sting and Emmylou. The second encore was "The Weight", which I watched while standing next to Emmylou near the exit doors. It was a very cool moment for me and this certainly takes me back there.
Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch are one of the most beautiful musical duos I've been lucky enough to hear, The Way That It Goes from the Harrow and The Harvest is an amazing example of their talent.
enjoyable watching all the musicians and their string instruments. . . I don't seek out this music. . but it might be one of my favorite versions of an incredible song
I can only dream about what it would've been like up on that stage jamming on one of the best-ever rock songs with this amazing line-up. If I could've chosen where to be on stage, I'd have been unable to chose between being next to guitar giant Buddy Miller or next to David Rawlings with that unbelievably beautiful- sounding 30's Epiphone.
Model a not at Winterland, Robbie mentioned to Martin Scorsese no gospel or country at the Thanksgiving concert, Martin borrowed a soundstage used by MGM for big musicals, they reconvened with The Staples Singers to record The Weight and Emmylou and Levon Helm doing a duet with Evangeline, both were added to the the best rock movie ever☘️☘️☘️🎸🎸🎸
@@robertsmyth4998 thanks Rob. Levon Helm said because Scorsese was so high on coke, he'd be talking so fast Levon couldn't even understand what he was saying.

Me too but i'd moved from N Cal to Ohio. LOVED Warren's big free party. All these folks did play there.. so....While the St Lukes/BBC version is tighter.. these are people that KNEW warren, who I saw at hardly strictly.
Curious about where you've heard those rumors. I've read a couple different biographies about The Band and never heard that, though considering how they wrote that first album it's not out of the realm.

@@mikerucker5971far be it from me to correct the great Willie Nelson, but there is a third kind of man, who thinks Jimmie Dale is a stone cold fox.

Emmylou Harris is still beautiful !!
This group of artists did an awesome job with this song !!
Emmylou is 72 and still beautiful as ever from Canada.
i thought she was from Birmingham AL
She was born in Birmingham, the comment was comming from Canada. She lives in Nashville now.
@@tomtorrell8019 Punctuation counts! "It's time to eat, Grandma" vs "It's time to eat Grandma."
Also Gillian and David are amazing and perhaps the most underrated performers ever.
Yes, indeed...
And Jimmie Dale Gilmore “Smokey”
You’ve got that right!
The Band- 'The Weight'...One of the Greatest Songs EVER. This is not The Band but there is nothing wrong with a group sing of a great song :)

Emmy lou.."Je ne sais quoi"
One of the greatest songs ever recorded! The Band's "The Weight!"
I agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes~~one of the towering achievements of 20th Century popular music
It’s got “anthem” quality and soul!!!
Brilliant. And a play in words that goes over most heads 👀
The weight of the wait.
I love this story, this song and Emmylou.
Inspirational to see Gillian play with Emmylou. Tears every time.
Perhaps the greatest impromptu sing along ever. Shear talent all the way across the stage!
If I could only love this more.
It's so wonderful to hear all these great musicians singing the song of my life!
Emmylou, like Stevie, is a timeless talent possessing eternal beauty!
all because of the GREAT LEVON HELM......………...
Levon was a pretty good singer and was fortunate to have had the genius of Robbie Robertson who wrote this classic number leading The Band.
Another little gem. Jamming by some fab musicians. Emmy at her at its best. Just golden.
i was fortunate enough to be here this day, as a volunteer, and to see and hear this again is a real treat. Thank you. Hearts Soaring Like Eagles.
John Orr that’s AWESOME!!! You experienced something special for sure!!! 🍻🍻🍻
He's probably one of the most influential singer/songwriters around! Steve Earle.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Emmylou seem to have this much fun on stage.
She also looked pretty happy singing with Gram Parsons on their tour together.

One of my fav song by some of my fav players. I NEVER get tired of this song no matter who covers it.
This song is like one of Shakespear's plays, it can take a hell of a beating and still survive!!!

Unbelievably beautiful. Wish I was there right now. So much talent together on that stage!

Jackie De Shannon did the best Version
Thank you, kindly. Love everything about this one. A lot of love.
Love the matching outfits of David Rawlings and Gillian Welch! It's just good to see them all on stage together-doesn't have to be "the Best"!
They are so reminiscent of the old Nudie suits so popular with country performers and those who had multiple feet in several ponds.
a fabulous rendition ! fabulous
Beautiful ❤️
god bless Danko- one of my fave tunes of all time!
