I remember reading someone saying that comedy games are mostly funny writing. Which this has, but it also makes fun of its own mechanics with the puzzles. It's actually far more clever than it seems.
Thank you for showing off this game! I got ~5 minutes in, paused it, got the game and finished it and came back. Shockingly good for free and a very funny commentary on The Witness. So to explain the final puzzle symbol if anyone is interested (don't read further if you don't want to know folks): You need to make a line that starts a S, ends at E, that goes through the same order of symbols that were on the last page of the holy book without the line crossing itself. Any symbols missing that were present on that last page you can skip and move to the next highest priority. I almost quit figuring that one out, but hey that's how The Witness rolled so it's kind of appropriate. At least in this case they let you reset the book so you can learn the pattern again. In The Witness I accidentally solved some puzzles without understanding them on a deep level, then they went away forever... and so I couldn't progress.
When Tom says at 17:00 that "It's made me laugh..." the editor uses a clip of Jack from The Shining. It's a little ironic given that the hedge maze he's going through at the time is a 3D replica of the hedge maze from the same movie XD
With the TV saying "Behind You" Tom there was a suit of armour there when you first go in that door, so it was showing you the armour was now gone and you could go past it. With that first hint button you should solve it multiple times, he eventually says something funny.
The book in the middle of the maze teaches you the required order of the shapes. You need to use that knowledge to finish the more complex and open puzzle at the top of the tower.
1:50 Those Star Wars edits from Kenobi and Mando were *Chef kiss* 3:05 That has to be one of the funniest and best ways to do a puzzle in a maze I've seen ever. 24:07 I stand corrected. 10:35 Yes. That's a checkmate. A weird one, but one nonetheless. The knight is protecting the rook, and the rook has the king in its sights, so the king can't take the rook because the knight would then get it. It can't move across either because the rook and knight would then get it. 15:39 The humor in this game is SO good. LOL 17:24 Josh is such a troll. That was funny. LOL
I haven't played the game it's parodying nor seen any videos about it, but I always laugh whenever someone looks into the telescope... it's one of those unexpected bits of reality. Like what would you expect if you looked into a telescope pointed at the sun? :D
It’s actually a really great game. It has some kinda random pretentious philosophy quotes littered around the place but you could play the whole thing without finding any of them. The puzzles are super clever and engaging, develops and breaks its own rules in interesting ways as it goes on. Should try it if you have any interest in puzzle games.
Thanks for pointing me towards this game. I played it before I watched your playthrough and was happy to see you fall at the same hurdles. Also, long pork wrap with fava beans is a reference to human meat. Yum
You're supposed to use the book as the guide for the final shape puzzle. The final page has all the shapes you need, and they're all in a single order. (as others have mentioned, the "logic" behind it is that it's based on the number of sides -- but you don't need to figure this out per se to solve it)
I'm glad the game forced him to go around a maze early on. I spent the entire video from the first maze until then with that being my first instinct burning up that he wasn't trying it
Just played this game last night! 'twas a wonderful thing, well worth the price ;P It took me over a dozen tries to get 600 on that rail shooter part though, so well done!
Supposedly they just patched it to make the rail shooter a little easier, which, THANK GOODNESS, because it was ridiculous trying to get that achievement
@@LinkDawnbringer I like that, kind of, especially since this is just a fun game but I hate when I get a hard achievement that is made easier after I get it.
Honestly the puzzle book with no tutorial is peak The Witness. I'm 99% sure those big wall puzzles outside the Japanese garden area never get tutorialized and I refuse to look up how to do them. Also those bird call puzzles in the forest they just throw at you, but those were easier to figure out
Man fuck those bird call puzzles. I literally could not differentiate the sounds in one of them. Even after looking up the answer and listening to it over and over. They just used a pitch or something that some people literally can't hear.
I'm not a particularly smart man. I started watching this and had a "wait this is just a The Witness rip off" thought and then the pieces started to fall into place... The Looker.... Ohhhh. TBF, I'll possibly handle a lot of the puzzles in this much better. I loved keeping an eye out for all the environmental puzzles in The Witness
Isn’t that just an environmental puzzle? The “tutorial” for those is the orchard. The game expects you to be looking out for clues outside the game boards by the time you reach the garden.
The last puzzle was based on the book in the garden, if you go back to it the order of the shapes in that is the order your need to follow the shapes in for the last puzzle.
I'd like to clarify that the actual plot of Thomas Pynchons Gravitys Rainbow is just as incomprehensible as the games fake summary of it, but is also very much worth a read
Reminds me of a game that Lewis and Simon played back in the day called Perspective I think. Same premise but you need to do a platformer with freeze frames of you POV.
Daily reminder that Tom is an amazing person and to thank him for all he has done/will do - Day 944 OOOOO Baby, Tom playing a puzzle game, what absolute joy :D Hehe, honestly, thought it was Tom saying the 'Beeps' at first haha Oh my god, that ending, really lived up to the title there. What a fucking amazing build up and execution, a really fun and super wll made puzzle game with such an ending l Iike that, outstanding :D
OMG TOM HOW COULD YOU NOT FIGURE OUT THE SHAPES REPRESENTED NUMBERS BASED ON SIDES/CORNERS! GEEEEZE SO FRUSTRATING! GAAAAAAAAAGH Late but hopefully angry enough
For anyone curious, the gag going on around the 11-12-minute mark is that the voiceover is essentially reading from some philosophy notes about the ethics of belief, except that it devolves into nonsense. ("The barnacles represent Neo-Platonists.") www.qcc.cuny.edu/socialsciences/ppecorino/phil_of_religion_text/CHAPTER_4_ARGUMENTS_REASON/ch3-WK%20Clifford%20and%20William%20James.pdf
I think that telescope pointed at the sun is one of the funniest things I've seen in a game in years.
I played the game and the ending had me laughing for 5 minutes
@@tedCain1 (kinda a spoiler) yes because the obelisk is a giant co-
The telescope pointed at the sun had me cracking up, but that ending... Wow. Did NOT see it coming.... Pun intended?
I loved the humor of this game. Super fun to watch this

In my playthrough I figured out that the order of the symbols is based on how many sides they have.
Toms reaction to the voiceovers makes me think he should play "Everything" - if he hasn't
We need more Tom's if he's gonna play everything.
Im pretty sure the shape based puzzles were dependent on the number of sides. Go through the shape with the least no. of sides first, etc.
Yup, it's number of sides.
He said type it angrily, try again!
@@numjerlunker IT'S THE NUMBER OF SIDES, YOU CRETIN! How's that?
Is THAT what it was? JEEZ I never figured it out, I had to look up the path through the final one, I thought it was completely arbitrary.
I counted corners, but that's the same thing.
When Tom says at 17:00 that "It's made me laugh..." the editor uses a clip of Jack from The Shining. It's a little ironic given that the hedge maze he's going through at the time is a 3D replica of the hedge maze from the same movie XD
I hate to be that guy, but that’s not ironic.
5:00 HAHAHA That caught me off guard
I love truck dealership ads, because they are ALL like that. I swear I've heard that "ad" before and they all have that exact piece of music
Surprised there wasn't a compass puzzle.
I mean granted the S to E there would be really obvious but still feels like a missed oppotunity.
There is a video after the credits that Tom cut/skipped.
The payoff surely did not disappoint, and all the little gags throughout the game were really funny!
16:03 'pulled long pork wrap' isn't long pork human?
"Could I get a menu here?"
"I'm sorry sir, but you are on the menu."
A little late with this reply but yes, and fava bean medley is a reference to Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs.

While I appreciate the end, the car commercial was what really got me
I just love tom reads tuna pizza as tuna pasta, and then just keeps on chugging
i think the shape maze they're in the order of how many sides they have. Circle = 1 Moon = 2 triangle = 3 etc
I was thinking either that or the number of corners, but its kind of the same number.
the last puzzle in the maze technically also gives you the answer as it follows the same structure, but is a straight line from beginning to end.
Trucks tougher than a drunk Marine xD
1:50 Those Star Wars edits from Kenobi and Mando were *Chef kiss*

end payoff + then realising it's an *island* where you solve puzzles with a *pen* slkjdf
the obelisk and the stones? where have i seen that before... oh well, maybe I should play Peglin.

okay yes, that setup was worth.
It is a crying shame that there was no face cam for this absolute treasure of an Angory time!
I love the background music. It's whimsical.
I watched RCE play this recently and knew it would be a perfect Tom game. Glad you found it.
If anyone is interested, the recording about the ship seems to be a parody of the beginning of The Ethics of Belief by W.K. Clifford
The Obelisk....Hahahahahahaha That was awesome.
8:50 Hirohito Araki on a megadose of LSD
That pay off. Perfect 🤣
Reminds me of those gimmick flash game puzzles
“Right Wall!” ~Pedguin

you should have showed the after credits sequence its so funny lol
10/10 very good obelisk 👏👏👏
This looks fantastic.
Would love to see Tom play Manifold Garden
20:36 Isn't that the Braid cover....
I really hope you okay more of this!! This was so funny! Loved it 😍
This was very fun to watch
I really rather think you’re just fantastic Tom, thank you for all your efforts in gaming.
Reminds me of a game that Lewis and Simon played back in the day called Perspective I think. Same premise but you need to do a platformer with freeze frames of you POV.
This game is amazing, mad props to the dev
aww tom didnt show off the cutscene after the end credits! thats one of the best parts!!
for 5.99 you can introduce your child to the wonders of cannibalism in wrap form
Wow, this was great!
Exactly my sense of humour brilliant
This was so amazing.
Game of the year! Glad you got to experience it. =D
Has anyone else noticed Tomisms like crabulon and speedrey appearing in their own vocabulary?
Wow that was amazing!
the way he says
"oh, wait, it's a giant co-"
That was great 👍
"Pulled Long Pork Wrap"... uhhh
Shame that the after credits FMV was skipped.
truly a profound game
*A-Bam!*
Scary Maze Game 2 looks good
Much better than the witness.
There is an after credits scene to this game! th-cam.com/video/oIb-LXyWHEA/w-d-xo.html
Maybe my mouse control just sucks ass but it took me SO long to get 600 points on that FPS thing so seeing Tom get it first try was somewhat vexing
Ha that was hilarious!
Amazing for a free game!
Watching this makes me want to see Tom play The Witness.
Although maybe with someone else there to bounce off of cos the game can be rather dull.
Daily reminder that Tom is an amazing person and to thank him for all he has done/will do - Day 944
OOOOO Baby, Tom playing a puzzle game, what absolute joy :D
Hehe, honestly, thought it was Tom saying the 'Beeps' at first haha
Oh my god, that ending, really lived up to the title there. What a fucking amazing build up and execution, a really fun and super wll made puzzle game with such an ending l Iike that, outstanding :D
Pulled long pork?? Seems legit
OMG TOM HOW COULD YOU NOT FIGURE OUT THE SHAPES REPRESENTED NUMBERS BASED ON SIDES/CORNERS! GEEEEZE SO FRUSTRATING! GAAAAAAAAAGH
Late but hopefully angry enough
What an amazing game HAHAHAA
Best game is best.
So does this mean you are going to play obduction or the Myst series next? XD
24:39 is that Markiplier?
THE BIRD
Looking forward to the inevitable Riddle Bros playing the Quarry
Uhhh, pulled "long pork" wrap on the kids menu... look it up.
That ending
As you ask.
NUMBER OF SIDES!!!
pml pulled "long pork"
"long pig" is what human meat is called in some former cannibalistic nations 😅
Man, I hated "The Witness". I love this video.
bam!
Why is "number of sides" so hard for people to see
Man this dev really hates the Witness with a passion lol, played through it before watching
I love you
The last puzzle was dumb as hell you had to remember what order of the symbols in the book were
