27s Orca Pod | Shetland South Mainland, Summer 2024 | Part 1

After arriving back on Shetland for the summer of 2024, we are shortly reunited with one half of our favourite pod of Orca (Killer Whales) - the 27s pod. At the time of this encounter the 27s pod was still split into two smaller pods. This part of the pod consists of Bull 34, the matriarch of the pod 'Vaila' (27) 152, 150 and the latest calf too.
We first spotted the pod heading up Clift Sound located on the South West coast of Shetland mainland. We followed the pod around to the stunning Minn beach where they headed in close to the beach in the search of their favourite prey - seals and porpoises!
The pod then headed towards another beautiful beach - Meal beach where we watched them from across they bay.
It is so special being able to see this pod of orca so close to land in UK waters and we hope to have many more encounters with them in the future!
