Every ORCA Encounter of 2024!

We take a look back at some INCEREDIBLE Orca encounters from all over Scotland in 2024! Over the year was had some super close encounters with both parts of the split 27s pods and we also have a number of encounters with an Orca who has been very elusive to us in the past - Busta!
The year started off with some distant sightings of Icelandic duo Hulk & Nott and the 19s pod off the coast of Caithness as well as an amazing encounter with Bull 34 and Co. off the North coast too.
The sightings picked up as we approached ORCA WATCH 2024 week, where we saw another Icelandic duo - Ulfur & Trinkie heading past Noss Head Lighthouse (where we had previously seen Hulk & Nott too a few weeks previously). The BEST encounter of the week & and one of the best of the whole year then happened when we saw part of the 27s pod including the impressive Bull 72 along with 73 & 153 as they cruised along the north coast of John o' Groats, coming in super close before heading past Duncansby Head Lighthouse and eventually coming with in meters from where we were stood on a pier in Sinclair's Bay later in the evening - it was MIND BLOWING!
We then caught up with the split 27s pod again in Shetland with some close encounters with Bull 34 & Co. as they cruised around the West coast of Shetland in horrendous weather - but that didn't stop us watching these amazing animals! We also have an encounter with the 12s pod - an Icelandic pod who frequent Scottish waters throughout the year.
We spent much of the winter months in Orkney where we caught up with both halves of the 27s pod again and even witnessed them hunting birds! We also had a number of amazing encounters with both the 65s & 64s including the absolute beast which is BUSTA!

Amazing encounters. Is there a way to track them via their GPS tags or are these orca not tagged?

Thank you! No, they're not tagged. Once they're sighted by someone they can usually be followed up or down the coast so just have to try and get ahead of them 💙
