The clutch fan in my 03 yukon drove me nuts. Sounded like an industrial refrigeration unit driving down the road. Especially in traffic with the ac on. Went to the junkyard and pulled an electric fan assembly out of a Silverado HD for $50 and got rid of the clutch fan. Much quieter and never ever overheats.

Clutch fan deletes are actually pretty common on the Tahoes, Yukons and Suburbans because quite honestly GM should have put electric fans in all of them but they're too cheap and want us to buy more replacement parts later. If anyone reading this goes to the junkyard to pull one don't forget the relay, plugs and wires. There are some videos on TH-cam if you want to wire it up yourself tho. LSXmatt has a good one. 👍

I have a Dodge Dakota. Correct that past a certain temp, the fan clutch switches into a higher gear to spin faster and keep the engine cool. Mine has to do that, cause the radiator on the Dakota is actually too small for a V8 (design flaw). Dodge got around it my using the high speed fan clutch, and with-out that it would overheat. But personally I like it. Makes me feel like I'm driving a big truck!

Yeah I go to the junk yard, find me an old time 4-6 blade solid fan and the correct length spacer, and then throw the clutch fan in the scrap bin where it belongs.
Then the old time 4-6 blade solid fan works forever more and never needs anything else done to it.
Did that to an old 1971 Buick I had that wanted to over heat because the fan clutch went out and never did anything else to the fan after that!

I've had five fan cluthes due to accidents and only one warranty replacement worked good. The rest were all too tight.
Unfortunately that ine was damged in an accident and I put a new one, too tight, replaced under warranty and that one is too tight.
    Its frustrating.
I am going to remove this ine, see if the engine doesnt feel like its working harder to spin it and if so, I eill have to do something, becase this ine is noisy and feels like its causing the engine to work harder than it should.

@@RBTheMechanic I pulled my clutch fan off today to see the difference. What a difference it was. It no longer feels like the truck is struggling against it. It sounds great, great pickup and glides along with hardly any gas.
I have the electric fan on it anyways. The engine ran awhile and when it hit 180 degrees, the electric fan switched on and then shuts back down when it was below 160 degrees.
The temperature gauge moves slightly up towards the halfway mark, but then within a few minutes of the fan coming on, it drops back down.
I plan to run it this way for awhile and check gas mileage. I'm sure it was eating more gas with the clutch fan.
Come summer or if I have to do any towing, almost never, or drive up to the mountains, it may need the clutch fan, but for now it's staying off.

This is older video and I’m not sure you’d still monitor comments and answer them. But I have a 2007 LX470 and it’s had the same problem. I replaced the fan clutch with a Lexus OEM one ($143) from the dealer. It did not solve the dump struck roaring noise. I then had another OEM one from Toyota ($107) and an AISIN fan pulley bracket put in while having the timing belt and water pump done by a shop specializing in land cruisers. It still sounds like a roaring airplane, school bus or dump truck. This is really frustrating. Any ideas??
