Another touch of Tennyson

Had a hunch after you showed that marvelous 'wide awake' hat... Apparently called so after that Wide Awakes, Republican supporters of Lincoln in the 1860s and opponents of slavery. Also evidently the origin of Woke as a term which we suddenly are hearing again in a new context

A beautiful piece by one of my favourite poets. My teenage daughter is just getting into poetry - although at the moment she's not convinced about Tennyson ... I will have to show her this as you read it beautifully - Shaun
