    My radios are by no means perfect but hopefully this will give any pilots an idea of what to expect from Edinburgh Airport's Air Traffic Control when passing through.
    Big thanks to Tayside Aviation for the aircraft G-BNOF
    I also hope this can help student pilots out there who are maybe a little nervous chatting to busier ATCUs. I know this video would have helped me when i was learning - not that long ago.
    I flew with a good friend and fellow Edinburgh Rugby man Michael Allen. He is originally a Belfast lad so I am pleased we got such a good day to fly over Edinburgh City Centre and see the sights.
    We departed the Westerly Runway at Fife Airport and quickly contacted Edinburgh Approach on 121.2
    Once cleared to enter the zone at Kelty, we made our way towards the Forth Bridge's, making sure the M90 remained on our left hand side to ensure separation from any oncoming aircraft (as it turned out G-SLCC was coming in our direction.)
    After being passed to Edinburgh tower on 118.7 we were cleared to Kirkliston which is a small town to the North of Edinburgh Airport.
    EZY64RM was on short final to land and we were only cleared to cross runway 24 once the easyjet was safely on the ground.
    Once south of the airfield we were back on Edinburgh Radar (121.2). We headed East over Edinburgh City before following the coastline to North Berwick.
    A quick hop over the water and we were back on the ground at Fife Airport.

      Fantastic clip ,
      Aye I've done it from Fife
      Routing was Fife ,Kelty, the bridges ,north of 24 ,over the castle ,Musselburgh and back to fife ,not that keen on flying over water though 😁
      A bit daunting at first but thoroughly enjoyed it .
      I fly from Cumbernauld at the moment but practice in vr when the weathers bad .
      Check out the wee clip Stuart, its a flight in vr using the new ms2020 from Dundee to Edinburgh, scroll to 24.10 and you can hear the on line vatsim atc .

    You make it seem so effortless, I’m hoping to take my FRTOL test in the next few weeks for speaking to ATSU’s from a glider.

    Thanks Stuart, I find your videos very helpful, I’m a fairly new lapl pilot, hiring pa28’s out of Perth and looking to start flying into other airports to gain experience so these are great, thanks, Andy Maguire

    Another great video, I flew that way a few days ago, pretty much the same way. Nice experience, Dundee is awsome too.

    Great video, thanks for it! Starting my PPL next month in Perth and am so relieved that the ATC chatter is so much clearer comparing to all the US aviation channels. Can't wait to overfly the Edinburgh Airport myself!

      Good luck with your training! You’re doing the right thing watching TH-cam videos - they helped me massively with learning and getting used to ATC.

      I did mine at Perth, too and passed my GST mid-November.
      I wonder if we've been in the circuit together. I'd have been in a red gyro (although there are four red gyros at Perth, so perhaps that does not help you too much).
      I'm also looking forward to doing my first EGPH zone-transit.

    Again helpful video - thanks! I'm going to be flying my fourth dual navigation lesson next week which requires a zone transit. Doesn't seem to be any more tricky compared to MATZ penetration.

      Glad you find these helpful - hope the flight went well if you’ve already done it. It’s not any more difficult ! And actually quite fun

      Not yet - I've just done the flight planning (flight is first thing tomorrow so just need to do the w/v calcs etc). While planning I discovered that I'll actually be going under a CTA rather than looking to get a transit, but at least I know the process!

    great video, I want to also see myself on a map with other traffic showing, can you advise how you've done it.

    • @StuartThePilot
      @StuartThePilot  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is just an effect i've used in editing. Using Flightradar24.com i found my flight and recorded the screen to overlay in this video. I did not have live traffic information when I was flying. It is possible however using equipment called ADS-B - a simple google search will tell you more about this. Happy flying, Stuart

      Stuart The Pilot Good thanks, left seat now with a sister company to Loganair, on the Embraer 145. You were always well prepared so I'm not surprised you've got the ticket, first of many hoops to jump through. Enjoy !

    Difficult to tell from the video, but would you have been able to glide clear in the event of an engine failure? This is my nightmare when flying over conurbations and I tend to avoid them entirely at low altitude.

    • @StuartThePilot
      @StuartThePilot  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excellent point. I always make sure I have an out in the event of an engine failure. Often when flying i will say to myself "engine failure now where do I go?" to ensure I always have options. Flying over cities is great fun so don't avoid them! Stuart

    Sorry, I don't understand the instruction you were given at circa 2:16 minutes into the video. Something about remaining North of 24? Perhaps the video is compressed but you then flew across runway 24. Were you supposed to hold before giving instructions to cross over 24? I don't understand the instruction and then your actions? Thanks for the help - I am US pilot trying to understand UK radio work.

    • @StuartThePilot
      @StuartThePilot  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was instructed to remain north of 24 (until I receive clearance to cross) The next clearance was ‘cross runway 24 and report when south’ so this allowed me to fly across runway 24. Hope this helps ?
