    As a fan of spice, the Tikka Masala can actually get quite spicy if you have enough of them. That being said, It didn't stop me from finishing the whole bag.

Even if it is not to your liking you still talk respectfully and it is refreshing and honest. You always keep it real and seem very down to earth. We need more youtubers like you.

    Bought all 4 from my local Kroger's Food Store here in Central IL. My thoughts on a 1 through 4 ranking......
    #1 WAVY GREEK TZATZIKI - Absolutely delicious! A subtle & creamy variation on your average Sour Cream & Onion Chip. They should definitely keep as a regular flavor.
    #2 KETTLE COOKED INDIAN TIKKA MASALA - Very good & quite surprising. Having never had Tikki Masala, I was expecting something more exotic. What I got was a taste that should be familiar to anyone who's ever had "Jay's BBQ Potato Chips". I'm not sure where "Jay's Potato Chips" are available nationally & internationally, but the paprika-heavy flavor of their BBQ chips is almost identical to these new Lay's. Tasty & surprisingly familiar to me.
    #3 BRAZILIAN PICANHA - I'm not sure exactly what Brazilian Picanha is; and after eating these chips I still don't know! Bland, almost non-existent flavor. Very disappointing.
    #4 CHINESE SZECHUAN CHICKEN - Just what you'd expect......only worse. Slap some shrimp-flavored ramen bullion, a little heat and burnt charcoal flavoring on plain potato chips and Voila! These are absolutely horrid!

When i travelled to Australia, i found loads of amazing packaged chips. All used natural ingredients for seasoning, used real good quality potatoes & were so crunchy. If you can get your hands on Australian chips, do try. A country with great food & great food choices, even though the supermarkets, aren't always as big as in the US.

      +Abhishek Tanwar I'm not lying, we don't claim to own Indian dishes, and it's alway bette cooked authentic by people with a lifetime of experience with spices but it was created in a restaurant in Glasgow Scotland, the story goes that a diner asked for some "gravy" to go with his tandoori chicken so the chef came up with it. That is definitely the Legend!

      Next time If any Indian fuse Indian flavours to a chinese dish, will you consider it as Indian dish ?. Obviously not, the dish is authentically from India. The flavours used in tikka masala are from Indian dishes. All the masalas used are grown in India only. There is point in claiming it. :P

    I've had all of them. The Greek one definitely has a cucumber flavor to it. The Indian one was pretty unremarkable to me, and quite frankly I don't remember the flavor well. The Chinese one reminds me of heavily seasoned ramen, good but too salty. The Brazilian one was the best to me. Hints of lime and Latin spices. Very yummy!

    I tried all 4. Tikka Masala (with it's gorgeous spices and slow-building heat) and Tzatziki are definitely my faves (and yes, you are tasting Cucumber in the tzatziki, as it is a yogurt cucumber sauce- I think it kicks the pants off any ranch flavor!). Picahna was good, I got a slightly smoky meat essence with it, and of course the nice herbaceous notes. The Szechuan chicken reminded me slightly of a spicy ramen. And even though they were very "hot", and not exactly a flavor I look for, I had trouble stopping when eating them.

      There are some brands of miso that don't contain alcohol and that have the halal label... Not sure where to find them...

    • @shapoot1

      Honestly I've never heard of Miso containing alcohol before... It's a traditional dish in Japan that many children and adults alike eat. I'm sure if you look it up you'll find brands in your nearest Asian food market that do not contain any alcohol.

    • @BlahBlah-sn4md

      Miso soup is a combination of Dashi, which is a stock from seaweed and bonito (dried tuna) with Miso paste added. It's really good.

    • @duallove6909
      @duallove6909 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Shapoot miso produces alcohol naturally due to the fermentation process ( I think 8 % ) so does soy sauce ". So unfortunately even if no sake was added to stop any further fermentation, it'll still naturally contain alcohol. That's why I'm looking into making a fake miso 😅💔

    • @BlahBlah-sn4md
      @BlahBlah-sn4md 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The level of alcohol if at all, is as much as any fruit juice, hence it must be halal. Secondly, miso soup is served hot, which means you would not get any.

    You're lucky to be able to find those so readily, especially this early in the game. Ever since they've started doing yearly debuts of the "do us a flavor" or now this world-trip stuff - I can only find one flavor at a time. If I'm REALLY lucky. And usually it's the one I like the least.

    Hi Emmy! I'm a new subscriber and I found myself binge-watching a whole bunch of emmymadeinjapan videos (my first was the SPAM taste test). I've had all of these but the Chinese Szechuan Chicken. I liked the other three, but my favorite is the Indian Tikka Masala as well.

    We don't have the tzatziki-flavored one in Greece, but my God, do I want it right now. When I was living in the US, I had a conversation with a couple of friends about how they had to sail the seven seas in order to acquire the formerly-Greek-exclusive "Lays Oregano potato chips" in the US, whereas in Greece, it's considered pretty generic and yet, an all-time classic. The tikka masala one sounds so appetizing too.

    I found all these at the grocery store here. We, of course, opened them all to try.
    The Szcechuan were my favorite actually, they taste to me a lot like the peppered chicken dish at Panda Express.
    Tikki Masala and Tzaziki were tied for second. I'd put the Tzaziki first but the flavor went away after a couple chips and just started tasting bad, but the Tikki Masala ones did have a nice crunch which I liked.
    The Picanha ones are waaaaayyyy down the list for me. I got a grassy/earthy flavor from them that I couldn't shake. It's interesting the way people interpret different flavors. Great video as always!

    I saw these the other day at my local Walgreens and just had to try them. Overall, they were all pretty tasty but, I think my favorite is the Chinese Szechuan Chicken, with The Brazilian Picanha 2nd Indian Tikka Masala 3rd, and finally the Greek Tzatziki.... It's always fun to see the new flavors Lay's comes up with.

    The Greek flavor was definitely available in Canada last summer. I was visiting family and we tried all the flavor context flavors. I remember it being very similar to sour cream and onion. It was ok. The most memorably special flavor for me is still cappuccino.

    I bought these in snack size to try it out a few days ago. The Greek Tzatziki tastes really strongly of cucumbers for me, which is a refreshing flavor but also really strange for chips. Both the Tikka Masala and Szechwan Chinese Chicken were too spicy for me but they both hit the ballpark on the spices of the area it was going for in my opinion. The best is the Brazilian Picanha. I ended up buying a big bag of that one! Its a subtle and flavorful chip seasoning that tastes like braised beef juice that mixed with the tangy sauces that usually accompany the meat at a rodicio, which coincidentally is my favorite part of the dish ( when the rice soaks it all up from the bottom.) This is their best run so far I think. They seem to be getting better at making the flavors a) edible and b) good!

    Before Lays, there was Hostess. They were a company that took so many steps to make sure their product was always super fresh. Hostess disappeared, and we were left with Lays. If you like chips that sit around for two months, then you might like Lays. Unless of course you catch that rare moment every two months when they put a new bag on the shelf. Twenty flavours of stale.

    Hi Emmy! Ironically, the Tikka masala flavour isn't available in India 😂 we have something called "Magic Masala" which is the normal Lays chip with a TON of spices: Onion Powder, Chilli Powder, Dry mango
    powder, Coriander powder, Ginger Powder, Garlic Powder, Black pepper powder, Turmeric
    powder, Cumin. I believe it is only available in India, but I am not too sure. It comes in a Dark Blue packet. I am not a huge fan of it, but my friends love it.
    The other flavours available here in India are:
    American Cream and Onion;
    Spanish Tomato tango;
    Thai sweet chilli
    Chilé Limon
    classic salted
    French salt and pepper (I believe they've discontinued this. I used to LOVE it.)

    Funny, I bought these the day before this video! I got the Tikka Masala and Tzatziki. I really liked both of them. I haven't had Tzatziki before but I have had Tikka Masala many times and I have to say they did a pretty great job of imitating its flavor. I agree that this campaign is better than their others. I wasn't expecting the flavors to be as bold as they are - at least in the ones I tried.
    Also, thanks for captioning and defining itadakimasu. As a new watcher I've been wondering what you were saying! I figured it was a Japanese "cheers" or "bon appetit".

    Nice one Emmy! Do the forklift boogie... ;-) Tikka Masala is ALLEGEDLY a UK invention, one story being that it was concocted on the spur of the moment in an Indian restaurant in Glagow, when a customer sent chicken tikka back because it was too dry, so the cook made a sauce for it using a can of Campbell's tomato soup! There are other origin stories however. A few years ago, Tikka Masala was voted one of the most popular dishes in the UK.

  • @abingleyboy
    @abingleyboy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Fun fact: Tika Masala isn't a traditional Indian/Asian dish. It was invented in the UK. Apparently either in Scotland or Birmingham.

    we don't have any of these here in Greece. not even the tzatziki one. idk why but it seems we have less flavors than other countries in both lays and oreos. As for the tzatziki sauce, it's basic ingredients are yogurt and garlic (the more garlic the better) and then cucumber. that's why you taste the garlic more. ;)
